The stronger enemies draconian challenge (which really feels like a standard difficulty to me so I can't imagine how easy the "normal" mode is,) the visual UI (JP basically had a very simple NES style interface), voice acting, dashing and more are all unique to the western version. The ultimate reference to DQ1 is XI getting the same level of localization overhaul.
