i wish i could find a job that would let me work remotely then i wouldn't need to worry about time off because i'd barely ever take any except for when i want to go on vacation.

but nooooo it's like a fuckin unicorn for some reason even now in 2018 to find a job where you only ever do shit over the phone and on the computer where the company will let you do it from home if it's not a programming job

it's stupid

That actually sounds interesting. Now I am curious how they actually enforce that. Do they put a meter in your car? Have you go into a service center for readings? Do an "honor system"?

I would probably consider that, but I tend to avoid "startup" insurance. Family members of mine have been burned in the past when they are trying to make a claim only to find out the insurance company filed for bankruptcy. Granted, they still got the money they were owed, but it took months.

I think its something you plug into whatever that thing is under the bottom of the dashboard. Ive seen companies before that only charge by mileage.

i'm not sure but what cacciato said seems most likely.

it's been around 7 years so it's not super new. but it's new in the scheme of insurance companies. and still pretty new for a company. i'm sure they're still working out the kinks.

lmao well work is never done for insurance claims so i'd really doubt that. i'd imagine it's more based on attendance and performance in a job like that.

Ah, I was thinking in the context of a dev. Claim performance makes more sense.

And it definitely seems like it would benefit them to have you be remote unless its privacy/security related.

There are probably some good companies with unlimited PTO but I'm very much on the fence about that. I've often heard places that have it basically never actually give people time off (probably has more hoops to go through to get approved), or it's a way for them to not pay off your "unused" hours when you quit, since there is no real measure of unused hours. Or both.

they could provide a laptop or have me us a secure VPN if it was that big of a deal but most of the companies just want to micromanage you. it's really annoying.

Oh lots of people know why I am out. I don't really care if anyone does. It's not awkward for me. I'm still not back yet. I'm trying to find a new job or place of employment just because through this whole process I found I really don't appreciate the culture at the company I work for and I feel taken advantage of so I'd like to either try the same job elsewhere or try a new job all together.

Anyway, they already emailed me to set up a phone interview so that's happening.

Presumably the main stipulation is "you need to actually get your work done," which I think is pretty reasonable. I can't say I've ever really understood having specific rules about time off or what you're allowed to do at work for office jobs like that. Does it really matter if somebody spends half their day snapchatting if they still get all of the day's work done?

I agree. I don't have any problem keeping my queue in line at my job now. In fact I do such a good job that I don't have enough work so I always get asked to help in other people's queues on my team and on other teams in my own demand pool states and other demand pool states just to keep me busy. So if the volume at this job is higher I may actually not dick around on here for half the day while doing four peoples' work.

I hate micromanagement. If I'm hitting all the metrics you want me to hit and I'm helping other people why do you care what I'm doing?

My issue is that I feel I'm not being compensated properly and I'm being undervalued for the work I'm doing so I'm not eager to go back. A new company may not be better but I'll never know sitting at the desk I have now.

a 7 year old startup? is it still a startup at that point? you can hardly call it a newly emerging enterprise if its been around that long.

either way, the concept actually sounds pretty smart. I am always a fan of paying for what you use and cutting out the excess, and that seems like their plan.

Yeah I'm not sure. I'm not really hip on the start up stuff to be honest.

7 years is still new for an insurance company. Some of these insurance companies are almost 100 years old.
