In space, no one can hear you bleed.

Man. There are SO many Inhumans now. Jeez.

Aww, are they getting rid of Joey already? I wasn't super into him but he was cool.

So is the super-Inhuman Gaara? He seems to be pretty sandy.

HAHAHAHAHA OH YES TALBOT IS BACK

Bobbi is a babe. I'm still team BobbiSimmons, but Hunter is cute I guess.

lolololol Creel is working for Talbot.

Aaaaand Talbot is working for Malick. Classic.

Ok, Creel actually being a face is amazing.

Bobbi kicking someone into a tam tam is pretty dumb, but I'm glad they didn't sub in a stupid chinese gong sound.

Because, like, why do they even exist? Why are the still around doing *anything* that they do? I mean it's fun to have them but why would anyone devote their life to a secret organization with no real goal in particular?

Even the Red Skull's Hydra army is a bit too large and pushes the edges of believability. I really like that movie but if there's one thing that kinda bugs me it's that he apparently has TONS of bases alongside this REALLY advanced Tessaract tech. For being a splinter off of the Nazi's it's too much....

I dunno I think Winter Soldier made it pretty clear their goal is simply to end democracy and have a stronger control over the population.

S4 of AoS actually shows how that works in the Framework. And probably undoes that retcon too, since Hydra is back to being nazis. S5 seems to be doing something similar, though I'm in the middle of it.

I liked Hunter and Bobbi, but not that much.

I did feel that the main cast was too big in season 2, but losing Tripp and also them now makes it feel almost too small.

I'm not really sure what's going on with Ward(Hive). Does he want an army? Does he want to rule the world? Make a world for Inhumans? I don't get it.

While I loved Bobbi, I do agree the cast was too big and that did create some problems with pacing and giving everyone enough to do. I always felt like they could've just put people like Bobbi, Hunter and Tripp on important missions somewhere and then have them appear every now and again (which will they kinda do later with another character which will make you go wtf) but oh well.

This "intelligent design" seems to be setting up the Inhumans to take out Hive. Andrew is programmed to kill Inhumans - denying Hive of his army. That's why he hasn't killed Lincoln or Daisy. They're not threats. They're part of the solution.

Sucks because someone is not gonna make it.

And man... Hive IS an octopus!

Plot twist! Gideon's daughter got killed, and not him. Does that mean that Gideon's vision didn't come true, or just yet?

Aaaand bringing back the team! Clearly, Yo-Yo is the agent who dies by going into space. The crucifix gave it away from the first time we saw that scene.

They haven't named Hive by name yet, have they?

I think Iron Chef guy is one of the best secondary characters yet in this show. What a boss.

Apparently he's really not into it. That's pretty cool, actually. Even Simmons killed a guy in cold blood without showing any repercussions for it.

Malick is turning everyone into suspicious. When he said "we have one on the inside", he was clearly referring to the dead guy, and not one of Daisy's team.

I'm so glad Fitz and Simmons are finally settling things.

HiveDaisy is weird. I don't like it.

Hive's whole thing seems like... what's his name, Professor X's brother? The whole "turn everyone into mutants" spiel.

There's a new chick with short hair and a speaking role, along with a dude.

Mack confronting Daisy is the saddest thing. He's been on such fire since the end of season 2.

Is Piper the new Hunter?

May shot Daisy.

It's... actually time for Civil War. I'm curious though - does that movie have any bearing on the last few episodes of season 3 of SHIELD? I don't really want to take a break from it, yet. Not until Hive is solved.

I'm already into it, guys. Let's do this.

Avengers: Civil War

Time to watch the scummy Captain America be anti-America. Down with America! For America!

In 1991 AD... war was beginning. In the trunk of the car Bucky shot... blood. I hope this is not Chris's blood.

LAGOS (I don't know where that is) PRESENT DAY (but this took place years ago). Scarlet Witch! Along with SAM WILSON AKA the Flacon and Natalie Rushmore. The AVENGERS (but with less money and less anger problems).

Dude, Falcon blew people up with targeted missile strikes.

Crossbones is pretty cool. I'm glad they're finally facing a real Captain America villain. Not some hokey old WWII villain in Elrond.

There's a lot of wiggly camera shots.

Ok, so Crossbones blew himself up, and Scarlet saved Cap... but kinda killed a bunch of people in the process. That really sucks.

They're really showing the dark side of superheroing right now. That's... mature. It's kinda good to know that people actually die when they toss buildings back and forth.

IT'S KING T'CHAKA OF WAKANDA

And freaking Ross. But he's doing alright I guess.

Ooh Baron Zemo... the REAL bad guy of this film (as opposed to Captain America).

I really like Vision wearing a sweater. I really don't like LONDON appearing in big white letters when the scene changes to a new location.

Peg died :( and Cap JUST figured out that Sharon Carter is Peg's niece. That's... funny it took so long. Would have thought they'd figure it out by now.

OMG WHO IS THIS HANDSOME MAN

CAN IT BE

THE MAN HIMSELF

T'CHALLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAA

Now that we're back at a Captain America titled movie, Widow is back to being well-written and seemingly pining for Cap.

OMG NO HE HAD TO WATCH HIS FATHER BLOW UP IN FRONT OF HIM

DAMMIT IT PRESUMABLY BUCKY

There are... some weird subtitles that pop up at times. T'challa said "I'll kill him myself" but the subtitle said "Thank you". ???

Apparently the subtitles are just this version of the movie and some of them are in the wrong place.

Hey, it's the German special forces, the GSG 9, as seen in such masterpieces as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege.

Cap and Bucky fighting together... I think the best part was when Bucky threw Cap at a guy. It's like throwing Cap's shield, except with Cap attached to it still. And Cap just carjacked a guy... in Hungary. Seems a little outside of his jurisdiction.

Bucky grabbed a motorcycle that a guy was using, which was cool, but it totally didn't need to be a slow-mo shot.

Is Vision hitting on Scarlet Witch? That seems to be outside of his scope.

I really have to hand it to Sam here. Just fucking backed up Cap with no reservations, even getting arrested and everything.

Ok, Tony+Widow+T'Challa+Agent 13 all against Bucky is pretty great. And... hey! We got to the post-credits scene from Ant Man! Time to call in Captain America's best friend, Paul Rudd.

This is like, the most casual introduction for Spiderman. I really like that he manufactures his webbing.

"Can you move your seat up?" "No".
What?! Cap and Sharon just went ahead and kissed like it was no big deal. Come on. And then the bro-nods from Bucky and Sam xDxDxD This may have been the best scene in the movie and then adding in Paul Rudd yes.

If Rhodey is going to be paralyzed, they should've just killed him. I still think they were SORELY missing an Iron Man + War Machine movie. Those two have such good chemistry when they work together.

Tony is so jaded.

(a whole lot of movie happens)

"Package for Tony Stank" oh Stan Lee.

Postcredits scene - Wakanda fucking forEVER what a fucking boss T'challa omg yes

I didn't notice that the one director guy was Bilbo until he was talking to Zemo in the end.

The music is pretty good in this movie.

Sorry, had to take a break to play HQ trivia. I won $1.30!

I'm expecting another postcredits scene concerning Thanos??

Oohhhh no, a Spoderman scene! "Spider-Man will return" well no shit, he's too big of a moneymaker to leave out of things.

I like how the poster for the movie excludes Spidey and Ant Man, despite the fact that the commercials for the movie had at LEAST spidey in them.

Ok, gonna unwind then write up thoughts.

To begin with... I did not write a lot while watching this movie. It was very engaging and I didn't want to distract myself.

Civil War was a lambasted event in Marvel comics. It didn't make a whole lot of sense, and given the amount of writers involved with such a silly event, it was a bit of a mess. How to improve it? Pretty simple, have both sides be credible.

I felt that they achieved this well. I remember a lot of people saying they supported Iron Man in this movie, even though Cap is the objective good guy. It's like... I think I'm still team Cap here. But realistically, I'm team "just fucking talk about it and come to a compromise among yourselves first". A conversation should have been able to get them working together to figure out the truth about who killed T'chaka. Regardless, Cap wanting the Avengers to operate as their own unit outside of regulation felt like the smart decision.

Iron Man's motivation was very much "do what we can to stick together for the good of all". Both positions were very sacrificial - Tony had to give up agency and surround himself with red tape with the purpose of protecting his team, and Cap had to give up the team and international image for... the sake of protecting his team (and Bucky). Both had good purposes that were so opposed to each others.

Sam was loyal to Cap. That has always been his thing, and he played it well. Wanda was a victim of optics (though she accidentally blew people up, so it's kinda her fault), so it made sense for her to fight for her freedom of self. I'm not sure exactly why Clint was with Cap... I think he just doesn't like authority all that much. Paul Rudd... I guess had a commitment to Falcon and liked Cap more than Tony.

T'challa... man was built for revenge. His introduction was suave, and his motivation given in a minute. The way he dove across the explosion for his father... they knew they were printing money there. He was a delight to watch, and the way his character developed at the end of the movie... being the one to realize the danger of vengeance and choosing to protect the man who killed his father and harbor Bucky... just awesome.

I saw Spider-Man: Homecoming before this movie. So I already knew this version of the character... but I can imagine he was loved upon release. Classic wise-cracking Spidey is best. I will admit, I wish his voice was deeper, but I can deal with teenage Spidey.

Rhodes being pro-Registration made all the sense. Vision... I guess matched up with Widow. It was the smart move. Maybe not the right one, but the smart one. I love that she stopped T'challa from chasing Cap and Bucky though... that double-cross was perfect. I love that they acknowledged that she was torn in the middle of the conflict.

Crossbones... was kinda wasted. Guy was built up in Winter Soldier just to be brought down as a catalyst to launch the Civil War. Too badass a dude to die so easily. And really, it kinda sucks that the New Avengers established at the end of Age of Ultron didn't last so long. But oh well.

Zemo, for being such an... uninvolved dude... was really effective. Just a Sokovian getting revenge for his family dying. And knowing to play the Avengers against each other... it's a little weird that his plot worked out so well, but if you ignore the convenience, he's really great. Give the little push that forces them against each other. Still, it's weird that he knew exactly what to do and had so much information and could do it with no problem.

Sharon's bit part was ok. It's nice for Cap to have his romance. Kinda wish it was with Widow, but eh.

This movie did a good job at focusing on the heroes, but it also did a good job showing the effects they had on real people. Ross and others who were involved with the whole situation weren't quite as developed though, and served more as ancillary pieces.

Perhaps the dumbest thing - Sam Wilson isn't superpowered. Clint... isn't superpowered? At least, this version isn't, is he? Paul Rudd isn't superpowered. WHY ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE IN THE WATER PRISON? Scarlet Witch is seriously the only one who deserves to be there on a basis of being "superpowered".

I think the best part about this movie was for sure the action. The first chase scene with Cap+Sam+T'challa chasing down Bucky was awesome. The whole climax with the two sides fighting against each other... just wow. Every hero got their chance to do their thing. Sam and Bucky had some great synergy. The shot with the 12 of them running at each other across the tarmac was one of the best two shots in the film.

Vision kinda took a backseat in the battle... he could've done a lot more, but he was really uninvolved. I guess they figured he wouldn't be as fun to write in, but eh. Seeing Paul Rudd do the Giant-Man version of Pym Particles was great... someone needs to explain to me why going giant doesn't make him lose density and have the same strength as his regular form.

Widow vs Hawkeye was cute, but Scarlet Witch jonesing all over people was too fun to watch. She dropped a bunch of cars on Tony. She threw Widow into a truck. All so much yes.

Really sad that Sam and Tony didn't catch Rhodey. Seriously, Iron Man + War Machine is the movie we're missing, and it freaking sucks that he had to fall. I guess he's the least unique and most expendable of everyone, but damn. Don Cheadle is the man.

I get Tony choosing to fight in the end... it stopped being about the Sokovia Accords, and at that point, was purely personal. His rage could've been highlighted a little more, but I think my true favorite shot of the film was the extended take of Cap and Bucky fighting Tony. You know the one.

I am... VERY glad that Zemo killed the other soldiers and just let the heroes duke it out in the end. A very real conflict, with emotion and desperation on both sides.

In the end, Cap both won the fight, and the personal battle. He apologized, but perhaps both recognized that the right thing happened - it was very important for Tony to recognize that his side was needed. For any sort of Avengers to keep existing... any sort of super-powered beings to stand on the side of the public, they had to have that side. (though who does he have at that point... Vision? Rhodes got rekt, Natasha betrayed too, T'challa is a foreign citizen who can stay apart all he wants. Spidey is a kid.) Iron Man's side was important but he was left with nothing.

Cap needed to win too... for himself. For Bucky. For Wanda. But eh, that's it. Clint should go back to his family. Paul Rudd to his acting career. Presumably that happens. Wanda I expect would stay with Cap and Sam. Widow is ???

Avengers: Civil War was a very engaging movie. It was a really fun watch. While recency bias had it standing very tall for me, a little bit of thinking it over was enough to keep it below Winter Soldier. Depending on the day, I could maybe put GotG and Avengers above it. But for now, I'll let the recency bias hold it up.

Just finished the finale of season 3 (AoS).

Fuck. If I had to choose one member of the team to go, it probably would have been Lincoln, but I still got pretty emotional there. He really grew on me as the season went on. Also, what the hell was that epilogue?

That epilogue was the other reason it took me 2 years to watch S4.

Yes, it is as bad as it looks like. But the season gets better after that.

S3 finale is pretty good. I mean Hive's plan is stupid, but the whole conflict is great. And I loved the final scene with Hive and Lincoln in space.
