To begin with... I did not write a lot while watching this movie. It was very engaging and I didn't want to distract myself.

Civil War was a lambasted event in Marvel comics. It didn't make a whole lot of sense, and given the amount of writers involved with such a silly event, it was a bit of a mess. How to improve it? Pretty simple, have both sides be credible.

I felt that they achieved this well. I remember a lot of people saying they supported Iron Man in this movie, even though Cap is the objective good guy. It's like... I think I'm still team Cap here. But realistically, I'm team "just fucking talk about it and come to a compromise among yourselves first". A conversation should have been able to get them working together to figure out the truth about who killed T'chaka. Regardless, Cap wanting the Avengers to operate as their own unit outside of regulation felt like the smart decision.

Iron Man's motivation was very much "do what we can to stick together for the good of all". Both positions were very sacrificial - Tony had to give up agency and surround himself with red tape with the purpose of protecting his team, and Cap had to give up the team and international image for... the sake of protecting his team (and Bucky). Both had good purposes that were so opposed to each others.

Sam was loyal to Cap. That has always been his thing, and he played it well. Wanda was a victim of optics (though she accidentally blew people up, so it's kinda her fault), so it made sense for her to fight for her freedom of self. I'm not sure exactly why Clint was with Cap... I think he just doesn't like authority all that much. Paul Rudd... I guess had a commitment to Falcon and liked Cap more than Tony.

T'challa... man was built for revenge. His introduction was suave, and his motivation given in a minute. The way he dove across the explosion for his father... they knew they were printing money there. He was a delight to watch, and the way his character developed at the end of the movie... being the one to realize the danger of vengeance and choosing to protect the man who killed his father and harbor Bucky... just awesome.

I saw Spider-Man: Homecoming before this movie. So I already knew this version of the character... but I can imagine he was loved upon release. Classic wise-cracking Spidey is best. I will admit, I wish his voice was deeper, but I can deal with teenage Spidey.

Rhodes being pro-Registration made all the sense. Vision... I guess matched up with Widow. It was the smart move. Maybe not the right one, but the smart one. I love that she stopped T'challa from chasing Cap and Bucky though... that double-cross was perfect. I love that they acknowledged that she was torn in the middle of the conflict.

Crossbones... was kinda wasted. Guy was built up in Winter Soldier just to be brought down as a catalyst to launch the Civil War. Too badass a dude to die so easily. And really, it kinda sucks that the New Avengers established at the end of Age of Ultron didn't last so long. But oh well.

Zemo, for being such an... uninvolved dude... was really effective. Just a Sokovian getting revenge for his family dying. And knowing to play the Avengers against each other... it's a little weird that his plot worked out so well, but if you ignore the convenience, he's really great. Give the little push that forces them against each other. Still, it's weird that he knew exactly what to do and had so much information and could do it with no problem.

Sharon's bit part was ok. It's nice for Cap to have his romance. Kinda wish it was with Widow, but eh.

This movie did a good job at focusing on the heroes, but it also did a good job showing the effects they had on real people. Ross and others who were involved with the whole situation weren't quite as developed though, and served more as ancillary pieces.
