the best part about a bot is topics starting independently of a participant starting them! topics can and often did go up while I'm in the subway out of reception!

It's an issue of it being run into the ground. UotY was a pale imitation of what it once was because only the epop crowd cared about it so it was basically UUL

Whether SMFFFC has reached that point is more debatable but its greater years are definitely behind it.

well part of it is that most people realize they don't want the responsibility of running this thing (and they also don't trust most other people to run it well) so they'd rather it just die than go out with a whimper

plus odds are we won't get a better winner than we got last year so might as well go out on a high note

Bot hosting is cool because it makes things easier for the host (auto-posted topics, auto-updates and time checking). You could set it up to post at the same time every day, or even randomize it within a certain time range.

The problem is if there needs to be a RULING mid-round, like the time XIII rallied a bunch of people from CE. A real host can just be like "yeah, those don't count" but the bot will count it all and maybe the whole round has to be thrown out later.

I thought we'd already had a Smific: Abridged. I'll pass on this one too, but thanks for hosting the last few chapters Leon. I know you and I had many (many) disagreements on how to uphold a beloved contest, but ultimately I'm glad someone responsible picked up the mantle.

If someone wants to host the 100-character roster I'll be all over it, but if this is the future of SMFFFC then I guess I too am retiring.

P.S. I'd prefer the People's Champion, Drak but I think I could settle for l3fty.

P.P.S. Where the hell are the results from the last contest on the wiki? I was having this conversation with char the other day where both of our instincts were to proclaim Vivi as the last winner and I corrected us both in declaring it to be Cloud and he didn't initially believe me! Going to the wiki to affirm my suspicions yielded nothing!!

I can't speak for others, but for me personally I have not been "much into" SMFFFC the last couple of years for life reasons. Things have changed, and the time I spent playing SMFFFC is occupied with other things now. My interest has decayed gradually, but I don't want to see it end.

When things we basically grew up with begin to get old, they slow down. They change, scale down and eventually disappear. I'd just personally rather not see a shell of a contest continue on. I didn't participate in those GMUN bot ran redux style contests because they felt hollow and soulless to me. It wasn't the SMFFFC I remember so I wasn't really into ever playing. The same would go for this sort of thing. It would be better off just going away, in my opinion. That said, I'd rather lefty, Inviso or some other long-time player pick up the mantle and continue on. If this was a few years ago, I'd be in this topic complaining and begging for this not to happen and probably demanding the title of host be passed on to me. I spent a lot of time playing this over the last... 15 years? I definitely needed this outlet once upon a time. I just view it with a special reverence because SMFFFC kept me on this board, and without it life would be a lot different for me. I'd rather not see any sort of offshoots that make it feel decrepit. I'd prefer a retirement to it than that is all.

Might read like way too much significance or sentiment for a board game, but yeah.

I mean I'm still around on bot maintenance, that's why I don't just have the bot running things on his own. 24/7 rounds were impossible to account for every moment (blackscar), but everything else I've been around to uphold and there's been a number of accounts I've had to vet.

One round per day is a cake walk to oversee compared to what I was doing.
