It's Trails meets Persona (meets Ys).

Falcom Action RPG that is stylistically quite similar to Persona. It's set in Tokyo and follows a High School student and his friends as they discover a supernatural world and stuff. Generally it alternates between a phase where you can explore the town freely and have S-Link like events with your party members and some other significant NPCs followed by a phase where you're exploring/fighting in that other world.

Combat is action where you control a party member and beat stuff up. You also have a partner tagging along with you as well as a support character and you can switch between them on the fly. It's fun.

Avatar kid is okay with either gender I think. Male version was solid at least. I dunno. I did think male avatar kid in Fates was terrible compared to female avatar kid, so it's possible that the same is true in Awakening...

Kingdom Hearts 1 beated

It improved a lot from the really slow beginning, but I think I probably preferred DDD and maybe even 358/2 Days to it (and II, of course; it was better than CoM, though!)

I apparently didn't get the best ending since I still need to beat a few secret bosses to finish the journal. Kurt was easy but I failed hard when I attempted Phantom; I haven't tried the other two besides accidentally dying to Seph earlier

Also what's the point of giving Ansem's last form EXP if you can't save after the credits

Oh hrm, from what I'm reading FE Awakening 'normal' mode is more like an easy mode and 'hard' is more like normal mode from other games in the series. Is that correct?

I typically don't like to play on high difficulties these days, but I don't want to make the game a joke either.

Normal is pretty easy. Although, you can still die if you accidentally let 10 enemies suicide rush you and you keep one rounding them to death.

Hard is a fair step up from Normal. IIRC you can still grind if you need to under Hard. If all else fails, there is a certain buyable weapon that is way better than it really should be and can let you cheese your way past things.

Xillia is all right, but Berseria blows it away. Xillia 2 is in the same neighborhood as Berseria though so I guess if this is a step towards it that's good.

I think the last Tales game I played was Abyss (which I loved)

I have a couple of the newer ones (maybe Xillia and Graces or something?) because I bought them on sale, but I doubt I'll get around to them anytime soon.

Abyss, Xillia 2, and Berseria are the ~top tier~ IMO. All amazing games. If pressed I probably go Abyss > Berseria > Xillia 2, but it's really close.

I've played Abyss, Symphonia, Symphonia 2, Phantasia, and Eternia/Destiny II.

I think I'd probably rank them Abyss > Symphonia > Phantasia > Symphonia 2 > Eternia.

I think my Tales ranking would go something like:

Abyss > Berseria > Xillia 2 >>> Graces f > Vesperia > Symphonia > Xillia > Symphonia 2 >> Zestiria

The multiple >'s essentially being tiers.

I have unplayed copies of Zestiria and Vesperia as well. Since ToV is coming to the Switch, I imagine it isn't likely that I will ever get a 360 to play my copy of ToV.

my comment was more that i think millia is one of the weakest characters

I am not entirely certain what you will think of Velvet. I'd set my expectations low but perhaps I will be surprised.

I think Milla and Velvet are both great. Better than most of the male Tales protags! And both of them are my favorite character in their respective games.

I just try to keep things decently organized with the shelves I have and I'm essentially out of space. I could just get more shelves, I guess, but most of these games haven't been touched in a long time, if ever, so I'd probably be better off just getting rid of them.

Anyway, I started Tales of Xillia. I finished the intro dungeon, although I triggered the ending sequence before I was actually done exploring it, but oh well. I figured the final room would be the deepest one in, so 'whoops!' Regardless, both Jude (who is clearly Sam Riegel) and Milla both seem pretty cool so far. Jude is a medical student who has to deal with his patients taking the doctor/patient confidentiality thing a little too far (such as this one dude telling me he's glad I fixed his problem because it's his wife's birthday and he didn't want to disappoint her). This feels like an episode of Scrubs ready to happen, until he has to go find his professor and tell him he's been selected to receive some prestigious award.

Then he runs into Milla walking on water (with the help of some spells), and they sneak into this fortress laboratory. They beat this mentally unhinged girl in red, and then I finally encounter what I've heard rumored for many years but never experienced until now: Fully voiced Skits. The one where Milla tries to comfort Jude by cuddling up to him because she read it in a child-rearing book sold me on her instantly. Turns out her last name "Maxwell" isn't just a nod to the ruler of spirits I met in Symphonia. She's the actual Maxwell who decided to take this as his human form, and I must say he made a good choice. Unfortunately, everything falls apart quickly when they find some Mako cannon thing, and Milla's spirits get sucked into the thing. I feel like I saw this happen in Symphonia, too! Now she's about as strong as the average human without their aid, so Jude decides to stick around and help her out.
