Anyway, I fell asleep playing Xillia last night, too, but I didn't get very far. We made it to a new sea haven where we learn there are more dolls like Teepo in a nearby town, so we're going to investigate. I can't swap Elize into my party yet, but I imagine there's going to be a tutorial or something about her before I can use her. Also, Alvin continues to act suspicious as all get out. He gets a message via carrier pigeon (and sends one back himself), and almost immediately afterwards he starts asking Jude about what sort of secrets Milla found out about when they were in that research lab in Fennmont.

We stayed at the inn where we met this girl named Katte who belongs to the Rats, some female spy network. Alvin saved her from two guys who were assaulting her, but when they leave the next day, she's found dead at the docks. He thinks she was killed by fellow Rats to prevent themselves from being compromised now that she's been outed. Also, as we're leaving town, some old dude tells us a story without voice acting about the Devil's Beasts carrying the Devil's Arms inside them. I guess this will be the Abyssion-type sidequest for this game, huh.

In more Xillia news, we have to take a detour through the forest to avoid a military checkpoint, where we find out what Elize can really do. It's nice having four party members now because it means everyone can be linked. At the end of the forest, we find Jiao, the huge dude with the big beard and bigger hammer, who wants to take Elize back to the village. He seems to feel bad about the situation she's in there, but he also implies that where she originally came from is even worse. That being said, Jude has no intention of letting her go back, so there's a big boss fight. He's definitely the toughest fight I've had so far, but even then, I wasn't in any serious danger of losing. After the fight, he seems happy that Elize has found new friends and maybe this is the best thing for her after all. A couple of times, Alvin talks about what a "treasure" Elize is. He insists it's because she's such a good summoner, but there's definitely more to it than that.

When we reach the next town, Milla exposes a scam at a vendor's shop who claims his pottery was fired by Efreet, but she says he values order above all else and this pottery is too sloppy. As a result, we meet a girl with ringed hair and her butler, whom I'm assuming is the person the town is named after since her last name is Sharil and this is Sharilton. She invites us to tea at her manor, and Milla is excited about the prospect of it.

Oh right, I forgot to do a Xillia update before I went to bed last night. When we arrive at the manor for tea, some important and ominous-looking dudes get into a carriage in front of the manor and leave ahead of us. We meet Driselle's brother, Clint, who is the governor of Sharilton. Elize and Driselle hit it off right away, while Clint and Alvin sneak off to discuss stuff privately. We find out that the king of Rashugal is behind everything, and he came here to conscript people here into his "service." Clint decides he can't abide this and runs off on his own, prompting cool old butler Rowen (who loves cooking but is such a perfectionist that he has yet to complete his first dish, by the way) to join the party.

We chase him down through a long gorge, where there's an assassin with a crossbow guarding the entrance to the facility. Jude uses bullet-time to dodge her arrow to distract her enough for Milla to sneak up on her from behind. Seriously, this dude's got some crazy powers that he's not really letting people in on and isn't really drawing attention to. He's not your average med student. Anyway, when we get inside, we find a similar situation to the research lab where they're draining mana from people, including Clint himself. We have to climb all the way to the top and jump in from above using some magic kite while Jude helps Alvin aim a shot at the core.

After rescuing everyone, we head back to Sharilton, where Clint is determined to rebel against Rashugal, even if it means war. Unfortunately, he takes an arrow to the chest and dies. He leaves Rowen in charge, but right at that moment, we find out that Rashugal has invaded the city. Also unfortunately, Driselle had taken Elize and Milla shopping in the square and they get captured, so we're off to rescue them.

I also finished the audiobook for The Two Towers. They don't actually change back and forth between the two groups like they do in the movie. The first half of the book deals with Aragorn and company, and the second half deals with Frodo and Sam. I imagine Return of the King will be the same way.

Also, I looked it up to make sure I was right about this (since it's been a while since the last time I watched the movies), but the last part of Frodo and Sam's story in the Two Towers book takes place in the Return of the King movie.

This is nearly the only thing I liked better about the books (which I'm generally not a fan of) than the movies. Thought the spot the book ended was much better, but I guess they wanted to put more tense scenes in the 3rd movie and focus mostly on Helm's Deep here.

(The other major thing I liked better, which I think is an outright screw-up on the movies' part is the way they handled Faramir's character. They took out a few of his important scenes in the third book and also made some pretty major personality changes to the way he acts in the second book that are not for the better. Bleh.)

Yeah, Two Towers ends on a pretty big cliffhanger, which is really cool. I guess the fear was if they included all that in Two Towers, there wouldn't be much for Frodo and Sam to do in Return of the King.

And yeah, I was kind of confused when Faramir showed up because I didn't quite remember him being that way in the movies, but again, I wasn't sure if I was just misremembering because I hadn't seen the movies in a while.
