This is the case with all tournaments but then people always ruin it by not watching the later stages with no big teams and everyone makes out it's a flop because ratings are down

Ratings always show the opposite. I agree I prefer the giant killings are more exciting but I guess it's because large swathes of followers tune out if their team isn't in it

Just like parents who try to do a legger at Talent shows after their kid performs.

It makes sense for ratings to drop, many people are watching for their teams and usually the giant teams have more fans.

Casual fans might tune out because people see Brazil vs. Argentina and think "big time" and they see Serbia vs. Mexico and think "nah".

The people talking about it on the internet are probably not the people responsible for the ratings drop
