Trade or waived by stretch provision. He won't be there.

He is a huge expiring contract so has value in a trade. He has a no trade clause so it requires some agreement on his end. He doesn't want to sit so he likely would ultimately agree if the team was favorable.

Lakers would be a good trade partner if they strike out in free agency. Could trade bad contracts to OKC and prob get a 1st round pick to take Carmelo's expiring. After season is over you clear all caps space for the free agency again. (Then again Lakers don't really have many bad contracts.). Though I guess Lakers would have to give up a servicable player also. The point is to trade players which add up to Carmelo's salary. Players okc thinks they can work with.

Also I will laugh if the Lakers end up with no big names (sorry Lakers fans in here). Purely because I dislike teams who expect big names to come to them because of their name and past alone. It seems every year the Lakers proclaim they are getting X, Y, Z and every year they end up with nobody. Its probably partly jealousy but I hate it when teams just expect to be good due to tradition and get shortcuts via big names signing due to that.

I still expect Lebron to go there and maybe 1 other simply because they have the cap room
