There is a fine theory in that since Shadow has not been shown as an Assist Trophy yet, he might be an Echo Fighter, as everyone is expecting a few more of those.

I haven't played smash since brawl or melee whichever was second, mostly due to not buying nintendo consoles. This is perfectly acceptable to me for smash on the switch.

My guess would be copyright issues with using that logo if it was changed for any reason other than just for the heck of it. It seems weird that they could get Snake but not the Foxhound logo though, so who knows.

Foxhound symbol was probably only allowed to be used by Kojima Pro because it's their logo so they might have had some exclusive deal, while Konami has the entire rights to Snake

I'd also put Knuckles down on that list too, even though that requires him to be added as a unique character (where as Shadow the Hedgehog can be easily added as an echo character). Knuckles is probably a more well-liked character within the Sonic fanbase compared to Shadow or Eggman, so Knuckles should be given some consideration here.

Dr. Luigi is an actual thing! I was doing some creative licensing to make him a villain sure, but my process is Dr. Luigi is a 100% competitive multiplayer game and thus in game lore Dr. Luigi is trying to cure his patients better than Dr. Mario and this in a sense would be "rivals"

just a much better idea than viruses even if it's a stretch

Segata Sanshiro would also just be an infinitely better character than his alternative choices too
