I remember hating TFA when I walked out of it and now I long for the days when a movie was only as bad as TFA.

Oh yeah let's not forget Darth Maul is the head of a crime syndicate because why the fuck not and we're left with a semi-cliffhanger with regards to that

Wait, what???

W.... what? I mean that was like a non-character why even bring it up. Well I know why Disney brought it up but for the context of this movie w t f.

edit: Got caught up on the topic, didn't realize that that character had a prominent role in the animated series...

So the director before Ron Howard was apparently fired for creative differences? Was it ever explained what those differences were?

I just want to know if this was terrible from the start and Howard was supposed to salvage it, or if the director had good ideas Disney/Lucasarts didnt like and Howard promosed to be more cooperative. <~<

This. People pointing out minuscule shit surely miss whats good about the movie.

I have zero interest in this movie. I'm part of the "Nobody asked for a Hand Solo prequel movie camp".
But yeah, I absolutely agree with you guys. Sounds like a lot of people here are just really over-exaggerating their dislike for the film. Something Star Wars fans seem to be consistently proficient at.

lol wow a bit hyperbolic aren't we? Calm down.

I really think they should have kept the previous Lego Movie directors who were going in a different, crazy direction. It might have turned out to be something completely absurd and even disastrous, but Kathleen Kennedy's cautious, programmed storylines are slow poison. All I could see in The Last Jedi was all the marketing decisions. I didn't see anyone taking any chances.

I also saw the movie tonight. The scene near the end with Darth Maul threw me for a loop. Horrible misstep making a reveal like that in the last 15 minutes of the movie. I can't believe that made the final cut.

Also worth mentioning, the infamous Kessel run. I simply can't believe that the "parsec" thing was retconned so that "parsec" is an actual legitimate measurement of time in the world of SW, and then actually used as a major plot detail in this film.

Except its the most legit retcon they couldve possibly come up with. Parsec as a unit of time makes no sense whatsoever in any universe.

Han literally took a dangerous shortcut to make the trip shorter. It's impressive because no one thought it was possible, not necessarily because of the speed of the ship. How is that not a measure of distance?

I almost walked out when the Imperial recruiter asked Han his last name, Han said he doesn't have a family name, and recruiter pauses for several seconds in thought over him having "nobody", then designates him "Solo". That ended up being one of the less egregious moments of the film.

Did you completely miss the constant references throughout star wars history to the speed of the Millenium Falcon and the importance of that factor?

Episode IV:

Obi-Wan: "Is it a fast ship?"
Han: "Are you kidding? It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. It's fast enough for you, old man."

They very obviously just screwed up back then and had to retcon it. They did not frame it as a reference to distance.

Sorry, i misread your post the first time. Basically what i meant is that with the new retcon, parsec is actually depicted as a measure of distance which it is; they took various shortcuts which required a fast ship to do otherwise they woulve smashed into things or get sucked, etc. Parsec as a unit of time didnt and doesnt make any sense and im only glad they fixed it.

I mean. He lived, bitch. What else do you need?

TPM happened 32 years before the Battle of Yavin (BBY). Solo happened 10 BBY. Twenty two years. It's entirely conceivable that Maul is still alive even if he isn't an "elder" race compared to humans.

Okay, I literally just found out that the animated Clone Wars series had him alive this whole time. Because apparently his species is immune to death by shock and has every organ essential to survival located in the top two feet of the body.
