Did they do an actual remake or is it a remaster/upscaled port? I havn't been following it at all.
I think it qualifies as a remake? It's clearly been built again on a completely new engine (or at least an engine that did not exist for the first game, unsure if it's shared with a modern title), with higher detail textures, what looks like a proper lighting engine, and other large graphical improvements. The UI has been redesigned. Some small new features and unlockables have been added. But the actual core game is almost exactly 1:1 with the original. You're not going through modern reimaginings of the areas; you're going through exactly the same areas, with everything viewed from the same perspective and in the same place as before.
