Buy and never get around to it. Two of mine are Ratatouille and the game where you have to make your character blink while in first-person, and combine a lot of items together to make other items. They praised the game's burn physics/general physics and lighting. Can't remember the name. It was 360 gen. Ratatouille was a grand total of $2.99.

That is so weird to me, too. Like why would I buy a game and not play it? Like, I can get buying a game and playing it only once, because we've all bought a game that turned out to be terrible before, but that's just throwing away money to buy a game and not play it. Like I just don't get it.

I was always planning to buy Final Fantasy X / X-2 on Steam. But then one day it showed up on sale. Since I was going to get it eventually, I decided i may as well get it on sale to save money, even though I wasnt intending to play it immediately.

No I play basically every game I buy and return games I am not interested in within the first hour. The whole concept of buying thousands of games you'll never play does not interest me at all.

More like how can you NOT do this these days? Games take a long time to beat sometimes. Why start a good game you know you'll enjoy but not attempt to finish? Likewise why completely miss a sale because you haven't finished other games yet?

So many sales, free games, etc, I don't know anyone who doesn't have several (or several hundred) unplayed decent games.

I've recently given my PS3 collection a large boost in physical games owned. They're probably as cheap as they'll ever be and I only buy games I'm interested in. Plenty of good games didn't get a PS4 remaster so I figure now is the time to strike before prices go up and some titles become rare. I did the same when the PS2 was fading away.

So 2 years ago GOW3 Remastered was on sale for $5 and I bought it. I started it for the first time on the 20th last April of this year. Finished and enjoyed it a few days ago. Sometimes I'm just too busy with life, or other games that I REALLY want to play, to play a game I know I WILL get around to at some point, and for five bucks, why the heck wouldn't I buy it at that time?

Though, generally anything I buy I always have the intention to play and do so at some point. So I don't know what it's like to buy something that's on sale and never play it at all.

It's called building a backlog. I've a ton of games that aren't open but I'll get there eventually. I won't buy a game until the price drops a little, and will be playing all this stuff in the meantime.

I figure I'm at least a year or two behind.

A bunch of games removed from Steam over license issues. While an older example than what you want, Mafia was a good one to explain. There were only a limited number of unused gift copies available after it was removed from Steam, and three digit prices were common. Unfortunately for anyone still sitting on an old gift, they added it back to Steam recently by just cutting out all the music. :P

With the changes to the gift system preventing people from sitting on gift copies of newer games, this will be a bigger issue sadly.

It's not deliberate. It's usually just a matter of just not feeling like it and the fact that there's no real time-frame once you buy something because you'll have it for as long as you want.

Or, in other cases, I'll buy games before I get a system or when a system isn't working. I own at least 10 ps4 games but have no immediate plans to get a ps4. I have a bunch of psp games but my psp doesn't really work. And I have a few Vita games but it's unlikely I'll ever own a Vita.... and that one was certainly a waste.

In general, there are only so many hours in the day and once you're not doing something as actively you generally lose interest.

Well, as an adult, you don't really play with the things anyway so displaying it in-box won't be *that* much different than displaying it out of box, unless it's incredibly poseable. And, in the case of Funko's Pop! line, they actually look cooler in-box most of the time because the illustration is next to the figure.

Other than that though I agree with this topic. Unless you're selling them for profit I buy and play every game I own. If I didn't have the tiem to play it I wouldn't buy it until I did despite sales and the like.

Absolutely: for several reasons!

1) Games (notably Nintendo but a few others), significant in videogame history, but not worth playing

2) Games that I may eventually need for comparison when I'm writing an article, answering a question, or something. Any Monster Hunter clone would fit.

3) Games that sound interesting, were on sale for cheap, that I might play someday, no hurry

4) Games, unappealing but highly recommended, bought cheap, that I might actually grit my teeth, hold my nose, and try, just to see what all the fuss is about

5 . Games that I'll gamble a few bucks on, just because.

6. Games that I intend to play but got shuffled to the back of the stack for some reason

I think it's mostly because of steam sales and humble bundles. I made a topic about this. And I think Delta had like a million(probably a thousand or couple thousand) unplaced games on his backlog. And it happens to a bunch of people. Getting those games can be good for later on, though. And I think people will at least try to get to the games. It happens. But they are right about not passing up certain sales. And you should NEVER pass up a free game... Haha.

About 6000 - 7000 backlogged games. My console backlog is maybe 1500 - 1750, while Steam is going to be around 4750 games at a guess.

Well, I don't want to play After Burner III until I've beaten the first two because I know I'll be completely lost.

I've basically been building a library to last me the rest of my life. It's nice to have a fresh option immediately available when I finish off one at 2 am.

At the current prices of 16- and 32-bit games, my buying them when I did 5-10 years ago saved me probably easily 50% of what they would have cost me now.

2 Situations:

1) It's a great deal (eg clearance or flash sale)
2) It's (at least somewhat) rare/limited. It could be a CE, a limited release game, an older game you won't find new anywhere etc.

Either way, you get the game with intention of playing it, but usually ends up in a massive backlog
