Still catching up on the topic, but I've not see anybody address the tone of the trailer. That second hakf of the trailer is probably the darkest tone the series has presented before -- the fire, the shadowy faces, and that fade-out from Splatoon's white painty world to an all-black world takeover looked different from any Smash advertising I recall before.

Throw in the new logo and system, and I'm in on the new game-camp.

I've always wondered what people like in Ice Climbers. I always see people being like, OMG I WANT ICE CLIMBERS BACK. But in both Melee and Brawl they were the most frustrating characters to play against bar none.

I mean I guess those issues are at higher/top levels of gameplay but I still don't really get why people love them so much.

Nintendo's got most of their major characters in now, so until they make more series I can see them venturing into deeper cuts and third parties more.

Though I'll laugh if they put Abraham Lincoln in from Project STEAM.

Expectations is self-explanatory, but time reason is nullified by the fact Brawl and Smash 4 only had 2-3 years of dev time.

Brawl development began Oct 2005, released Jan 2008 (~2 years)

That brings us to why I've started this new site. I was recently put in charge of creating a Super Smash Bros. title for Wii. Development started in October 2005. Scheduled for release in 2007. It feels like we've only just begun, but we are hard at work on it. - Dojo

Smash 4 development began after Kid Icarus Uprising finished early 2012, released mid-2014 (~2.5 years) and late-2014 (~3 years, concurrent with 3ds)

I'm currently concentrating on one title, Kid Icarus. Until this wraps up, Smash Bros. will not progress. Of course, characters have not been decided at all.

Final Smash DLC was early 2016, by the end of 2018 it'll be 3 years passed. Given the Wii U's flopping and Switch success there's ample reason for development of a new title on Switch to be expedited, but even this dev time isn't much shorted if at all than Smashes of the past, especially considering how we aren't moving up to HD this time.

People are saying they want to disguise the fact that it's a port. Bullcrap. They wouldn't make a mysterious teaser with little information all just for "Smash Bros. 4 DX".
