There comes a time during the golden years of a series' popularity when that need for debate and self-affirmation can only be settled by answering that one burning (blazing?) question - who is better? Marth or Ike? Lyn or Lucina? Wendy or Knoll?

And so in grand Board 8 tradition (quickly, before SMFFFC starts again) what better way to prove it to the world than to post the same pet character's name for 50 consecutive days before missing one topic and rendering it all rather underwhelming? Yes, a Save My _____ contest!

So a few ground rules for nominations to get you underway (and I'm not going to be greatly rocking the boat from the example set in SMFFFC here):

- This is subject to change, but given Fire Emblem's burgeoning pool of options, I'm tentatively setting the field at 100 entries. This will be made up of 75 characters voted in by you, and 25 characters (that you can see further down below) that I'm automatically including due to their inherent importance and/or popularity; and essentially to spare anyone from feeling the need to throw a nom to an 'obvious' character.
- You get 15 nominations in total, 5 doubles and 10 singles. You indicate the former by bolding it as you can see there. You don't need to nominate all 15 in the same post.
- The 75 characters with the most nominations will join the other 25 in the contest, with ties at the cut-off point being determined randomly. There is no nomination threshold to reach to be safe of inclusion, just who's above the line when nominations close.
- I'm not going to forbid you from changing your nominations, either by upgrading/downgrading a nom or changing a character altogether, but please try to limit doing so. This is going to be difficult enough to keep track of as it is! I'll make a nomination tracker sheet once enough have been made.
- There's no deadline just yet, as it will largely depend on interest, but expect nominations to last at least a week from today, and to get at least 72 hours notice before they close.
- Any original Fire Emblem character from either a mainline entry or spin-off is fair game. If it was a valid choice during the Fire Emblem Heroes Choose Your Legend vote, it's probably allowed here.

...However. There are a few exceptions I'm making. Without going into spoilers too much, characters with alternate forms or identities will only be included under their first or most prominent appearance (whichever is most relevant); they have to be a named character (sorry Brigand Boss); and original Warriors characters are all eligible (it was released after the Heroes poll).
- As an addendum to the above, I'm allowing the Awakening and Fates Avatars i.e. Robin and Corrin, to be split into their male and female iterations, since although being essentially the same character, they feel different enough in essence to warrant their separation. Going the other way, I'm consolidating all versions of Anna into one entry, as although they're all different people, her gimmick is that she and her sisters are supposed to be indistinguishable. Besides, I doubt any fans of one particular version would want to single her out to the exclusion of all others. Nor am I filling the contest with Annas.
- I'm taking the stance that the original characters from Tokyo Mirage Sessions are more Atlus originals than Fire Emblem, and so won't be including them; but if anyone feels strongly enough the other way I'll take it under consideration!
- I'll defer to SMFFFC on rules for trading. Like-for-like trades only, featuring nothing outside of this contest.
- I reserve the right to add or edit rules for anything I might have missed in cases of clear exploitation.

I tried to include a wide spectrum, and although most are common sense, I realise there's a fair amount of subjectivity in there as well. I chose to take Warriors lead by making male Robin and female Corrin their primary versions, and not to disparage Thracia 776 but I really didn't think Leif deserved an automatic spot. #26 would probably have been Elincia, but I think Nino/Tharja/Camilla are arguably more popular. Don't like it? Well you've got a lot of nominations to play around with!

I did plan on running this in the future and I would have allowed Tokyo Mirage Sessions characters but if you don't think they belong here that's fine

I could have feasibly included them under the same justification as some of the others (probably more so Kris than spoiler tag), but I was happy enough with the four Archanea characters I already had and I'm generally in favour of prioritising ones from western releases.

Regardless, it's not like the auto-in characters aren't getting any other bonuses other than not needing nominations. With 75 slots it's not like any vaguely liked character is going to have much difficulty getting in, not like with SMFFFC.

And I'm perfectly fine with allowing TMS characters if people want them. I just didn't think they fit exact criteria like the others do, but ultimately I'm not looking to exclude characters unnecessarily if people think it's unjust.

I suppose Tiki and Anna both just have longevity. Tiki is a notable character in several mainline games + spin-offs, whilst Anna is more or less the mascot of the series.

I still think it's weird that people call that character "Black Knight" in 2018. (Of course, here I am not deliberately spoiling it myself, just in case someone would be annoyed by it. I just personally think it's weird that people would be sensitive to what is ultimately a relatively minor spoiler for a game which is over a decade old.)

There's already been over 100 different characters nominated, so I doubt this needs to be open any longer than a week. Just to make if official, nominations close at 7PM 10th March EST. I'll remind you again later in the week.

Oh yeah, an addendum I forgot to add to the nomination rules, just like in SMFFFC, when it comes to tiebreakers, characters receiving nominations from more sources take priority before RNG comes into play. So if the bubble is at 3 nominations, a character with 3 single votes would make the contest ahead of a character with one double and one single, who then goes into the random draw.

Finally, *minor Fates spoilers* As mentioned in the rules, characters are being listed by their first/most notable appearance, so in the case of Odin and Selena, they're being entered under Owain and Severa respectively. Just in case there's any confusion/consternation.

I think that's been quite enough data entry for the time being so I'll submit my own noms later.

I'd consider their Conquest appearances most notable myself; they're required PCs there rather than optional (and partly due to that they have considerably more supports, etc.). That's also the game that gave them their FEH appearance. That said, if you want to count them as the same character (totally fine), I'd suggest just listing them under both names in the actual contest. It's barely a spoiler at all, they even look the same!

I consider it to barely be a spoiler as well, and along with Black Knight, given that everyone here either plays or is familiar with FEH (and how it regards 'spoilers'), I'll probably just list them under both names once the contest begins. Assuming no objections.
