i always kinda viewed SotC and Ico as the devs fumbling at what the dark souls team eventually nailed

And the world map being empty was normal?

This is one of the worst first impressions I have ever seen in a video game

This board hyped this game so much, I didn't know what it was about, downloaded it (pirated copy, duh) put it in my PS2...and the world map is empty
I thought it might be anti piracy or that I downloaded a broken beta build or a bootleg or a different game or something

I didn't know anything about the game going into it. It's more than a boss rush game but the world is unpopulated because that is the lore.

Also I'm hyped for it, I'm getting that neat little special edition. And yea the original does have a certain charm from its art that it will probably lose from this remaster, but it'll gain a bunch of other things too and still look great so I don't see it as a bad thing.

I appreciate the article, but at the end of the day one version of the game has bad frame rate and the other doesn't, and that's all that really matters to me.

I have very mixed feelings on that. On one hand it's perfectly valid that it'll feel like it's lost some of its original charm and nostalgia.

On the other hand I don't believe that should be a knock on the new one, and people obsessing over that are kind of feeding into their memories.

yeah that article kinda sounded like "it looks too good and i wish it looked like an older game again"

i think the world is gonna look just fine, just in a different way. the world can still feel alien and empty regardless of if it has that grain or blur or fog in every shot. honestly, I'm probably gonna enjoy the changes, because the original felt a little limited to me because of the hardware it was working with.

And the PS3 version was the one I played first, not the PS2 version with the awful frame rate.

In any case this shouldn't be about me, but regardless I'm excited for this version. Some others are not, while some others are as well. The people who want it will happily buy it. And the PS3 version is still a thing that exists.

I watched several videos of the PS2/PS3 and PS4 gameplay to compare graphics. Thoughts:

1. PS2/PS3 has a lot of bloom which is missed. PS4 version feels too dark and less dreamworld-y.
2. The increased FPS almost hurts the style, in that stupid way that Hollywood has trained us to think that anything above 30 FPS looks 'fake'.
3. With that said, the PS4 fur is sooo good.

Bingo. The envorinment's only real purpose for me was to allow me time to get hyped for fighting the next colossus. Horse riding wasn't bad really, it just filled a lot of time while I eondered when and where the next fight would begin.

If you gave me the choice of having that whole traveling-the-world aspect or like four more colossi though, I'm jumping for 20 total right away.

I read through that article, and while the author makes some very valid points, the article is like three times longer than it needs to be and he comes across as very...pompous? Elitist? Overdramatic? Not sure how to describe it. The tone of the article just rubs me the wrong way.
