What if youre diagnosed with something like Stage 4 cancer?

I had a great uncle go down to his favorite fishing spot and shoot himself at like the age of 84. He lost his wife a few years earlier to cancer and didnt want to deal with the same thing. I found out and I was like good for him. Id probably do the same thing.

not really, shootings aren't as rare as you think. Especially if you live in the inner city, just because media doesnt do a nationwide coverage over the shooting doesnt mean they dont happen. I guarantee you i could find some sort of homicide that happened within the week in my city (Houston) if i looked hard enough

If you looked at the context of the remark, you'd see he said "getting caught in a shooting" which implies either mass shooting, drive-by, or just a bystander in another shooting. Well, mass shootings account for less than 1% of gun deaths and a whopping EIGHTY percent of murder victims knew their murderer. Ergo the odds of you just being caught up in random gun violence, particularly by a drug fiend, are absurdly low. He should be more worried about a friend or family member killing him, considering that most murderers are committed by that group and iirc only half (if not a bit less) of the country's *known* murders occur via gun.

And, in general, murder as a COD is relatively low in the US. It's only a 4.88/100k which just barely puts us in the top100 nations and that rate isn't uniform across the country, it's an aggregate of everything. (It excludes some territories, like Puerto Rico, which have roughly a 15 rate.)
