Being offended by this when the Switch's third-party support in its first year has been better than the entire life of the Wii U is absolutely ridiculous

Yeah you're right, cause I remember looking at the kits and they're basically rectangular sheets with the cutouts displayed on them (as opposed to the more complicated pieces already being cut out)

Don't you still need the sensor square thingies so the joycons actually work with the kit?

Those things might be proprietary.

Presuming the Joy-Con's IR camera works like the Wiimote's, I'd guess they're IR LED arrays of some sort. If they aren't too complicated, they could potentially be made at home, though that would involve a lot more specialized materials and know-how than cutting out some cardboard, especially if the arrays do anything to detect how the strings are moving.

Oh, yeah, it's not like it changes my opinion of Nintendo or ruins the Switch for me, but I think it's fair to criticize it and be skeptical. Realizing that I'm not in the target audience, my only real complaint is the price point, but I also think saying "$70 for cardboard" is too facile. People tend to ignore that you also pay for the design/development. I'm still not paying that much for cardboard and basic games though.

People do realize that even though it cost like $70 or whatever, most of that is for the actual game? You know, the things that normally cost $60, right? And before you say the games should cost less, it seems like the game has a bunch of games altogether. So, buying like a bunch of $5-$10 games on one cartridge and a bunch of cardboard. I assume they'll also sell the cardboard separately(or maybe free refills), because those will break and tear easily. And probably pretty fast...
Also, it seems interesting... I may look into it...

I have bought maybe 2 $60 games ever. Is this what it feels like to be a Nintendo Fanboy? Buying expensive games that aren't worth nearly that much?

I know you don't have a job anymore, but could you really not afford to pay $60 for a game when you were making $60k+ and living with your parents?

Also do you really wonder why you don't have any friends when your attitude is like this?

What? No, PC games are rarely if ever $60. The ones that are $60 are usually AAA garbage.

It kind of sucks that Nintendo games take forever to drop in price, but I think everyone takes for granted that these massive price drops are a relatively new thing in gaming. It's not really that big a deal to me because Nintendo has been all about first-party for a while and I don't care about every first party game of theirs that comes out. It's not like they have all the third-party AAA titles that MS and Sony has, sitting at $60 for years.

The VR headset was shown in a demo.

And AR is typically more higher end than VR in headsets. AR uses the environment around you to add 3d graphics to, VR just does the 3d graphics.

Sure. That's PC. And like you said, the AAA ones are still $60. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean other people don't. And other systems have games that also start at $60. As in most of them for systems. So this is what's it's like to be gamer who buys new games for any system.

Not to derail the thread too much, but I am someone who enjoys AAA games. The production quality is there. I have played so many indie, flash, even gamejam (where indie devs make a game in a short amount of time in a loose competition) games, and none of them compare to the quality of a AAA game. You have exceptions like Cuphead and Minecraft, but those are one in a million lottery winners in the industry. AAA and non-AAA is night and day for quality.

That being said, I don't buy AAA games anymore (mainly because I just play the stuff I own or free-to-play PC MMOs). I think AAA developers have teams that are way bigger than necessary, resulting in overpriced games, a bloated marketing team/budget, and overall pushing the idea of making money to make games, rather than making good games to make money. No current AAA dev values the game and its impact on the industry anymore, it's all about bottom-line net profits. To bring it back a bit, this has also been Nintendo's mantra for some time, since the Wii. They openly admitted that their hardware post-Gamecube was lagging behind the industry because it would save them money (saving consumers money is hardly the motivation behind the decision to use prev-gen tech). But we all know that's just PR talk for "people will buy our stuff anyway, especially when most of them aren't aware of the difference between us and the competitors".

I shit you not, it actually costs $70.

Lmao, this is the biggest joke I've ever seen. Poor kids are going to spend close to a hundred for cardboard that's worth less than $1. What a scam.

If Microsoft or Sony did something like this there would be blood.

The value of this is basically buying a $70 TV, and then throwing away the TV to play with the box.
