I guess cringey wasn't really the word I was going for. The content of what he was saying was OK, but I just wanted to punch him every time he talked. He wasn't awkward, just annoying.

I think its because the run last year of Super Metroid went poorly. Like two of the 3 people died right away.

For me, the block that I'm most interested in is Wednesday afternoon (and I'll actually be home for it too because I have an early shift that day):

Metroid, by MetroidMcFly - MetroidMcFly is a dude who burst onto the scene last year and completely revolutionized Metroid, took WRs in multiple categories, and came up with several new strats and routing changes. Not only did he cut down some of the records by minutes, but he caused a mini renaissance last year where a handful of the old runners all returned to the game. What I'm trying to say is he's a guy who rightfully deserves some spotlight and the game will be cool if you've ever seen it before.

Strider - I'll probably just watch this because it's in between Metroid and the next run, but the concept is something unique that's never been done before. I guess they're teaching a guy how to run this game from scratch in real time.

Wario Land 4 - Amazing game which I always talk about and is one of my favorite speedrun games to watch. It's the purest essence of a platforming game, with speed, advanced tech, and exciting risky strats to save time.

Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga - The glitches in this game are unlike anything in any other game. This is an example of a game where the glitchless route is boring and straightforward, but the glitched run is the real show. I feel like I remember this run being shown once before (actually it definitely was because I made a joke about the Youtube thumbnail) but it never gets old to me.

F zero is an amazing game for speed running But there seemed to be more than a few lives lost on 2nd and 3rd laps. I didn't see what the final time was though

I think it was around 65 minutes. It was still under estimate, though. The runners said they intentionally high balled the estimate since deaths were a real possibility.

I mean, the entire purpose of this is to raise money which means they are trying to be as entertaining as possible. Watching actual speed run attempts are usually extremely boring because of the repetitiveness and concentration required.

IRC is still the single best chat protocol, even in 2018.

Discord would be competitive if it were decentralized/open/nobody "owned" it, though (Which makes sense since it's basically IRC in most respects)
