I didnt see a topic yet and the marathon is nearly upon us!

Schedule: https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule

We open with a crash 3 any% run and close with a 4 hour "all quests" run of Breath of the Wild.

Also LttP randomizer has a pretty nice time slot on the final day which is pretty hype. There seem to be a lot of quality runs to look forward to this year.

Yesssssssssssss

I looked for this topic twice today but was just too lazy to make it. You are the hero we need.

And I was thinking the same thing! Schedule looks fun. Lot of the old standbys but plenty of new and fun stuff too.

One thing I don't really like about randomized aLttP is that a large number of chests just contain rupees that the runner doesn't need. Like in randomized Zelda 1 the items are less frequent and more likely to be game changing so it's exciting to see what the runner will get when they get close to one. In randomized aLttP, chests are littered all over the place and most of them aren't useful.

I don't like it because it's almost completely still the same game. All it does is change routing a little bit, oh I guess the pendents/crystals are shuffled too but it really doesn't mean much.

Playing like Z1 or Z2 randomized is so much more refreshing and different.

It's really boring to follow a plan in a Pokemon speedrun but it's pretty interesting when you need to piece one together on the fly

10,000% this. For a game like Pokemon there is legitimately more "skill" involved with randomisers. Its not the kind of game where the inputs are difficult and so with a static route there is not much beyond rote memorization of a single set of steps. With Pokemon randomisers you have to understand a lot more of the games mechanics and be able to apply that as you go in scenarios that could flip the script on you.

But Im telling you para. Lets do bi weekly races or something and submit next year. Im not good at speed running much, but Pokemon randomisers i can do.

Sure, let's get back on schedule. I submitted it this year but it didn't work out - I'm hoping to do it again every GDQ from here on out, just in case they decide to accept me at some point.

All items are shuffled, as well as boss drops (pendants/crystals). Dungeon-specific items are still in their dungeons.

There are modes that shuffle dungeon items (keys/maps/compasses), enemies (including bosses) and entrances, but those won't be used at AGDQ

The other cool thing about shuffling dungeon items is that it doesn't tell you what bosses drop until you get the corresponding Compass, making those not completely irrelevant.

I doubt we'll ever see some of the crazier randomizers at a GDQ because they want to try to keep to a schedule.

That's the map. The compass gives you a cool counter on the HUD telling you how many chests you've gotten in the dungeon and how many there are total.

But yes, it does make maps not trash, to an extent. Compasses still are for many players, but they're still cool.

Either way, I'm a big enough fan of lttp rando that I literally started playing it. Sure, it's not that far off from the base game (especially without the variants added in), but the randomization means that all of the routing after the first few minutes is done on the fly, which I really like. Much more exciting than normal runs IMO.

Yes,a rom is randomized based on a specific seed and is distributed so they are all doing the same instance.

And typically for something big like this a neutral non racing player will hop into the randomized rom first just to make sure its not like worst possible rng. But none of the racers would be given any information from that.

Actually, one thing I'm not sure how they'll do logistically is separating the runners so that they don't know what each other is doing and don't hear any commentary. I'm pretty sure LttPR is like Z1R and Z2R in that screenwatching is strictly disallowed?

I heard the randomizer run might be swordless. At least Christos Owen was practicing that. (It might be something you donate for)

I heard that the runners will be set at an angle to each other. Not sure how the commentary will be done.

I forgot that was during the HRDQ and not one of the normal GDQs. I guess they do need to do something new if they want people to be in the same room at the same time.
