Chapter 1

If it wasn't for Kaede, wasn't that whole plan just kind of pointless? Best case scenario they would have known who the mastermind was about 10 seconds before they all got murdered.

Yes, basically. While its possible Rantaro could have done something, everyone else was more or less just gearing up to die in a fruitless attempt at a fight. While Shuichi's plan might have given them something of a chance if it did actually work (they could possibly do something to the mastermind to get out, whereas everyone else was just like 'uuuh lets punch monokuma!'), it wasn't super likely. Kaede's murder plan was literally the only thing that guaranteed most people to live, and even had the possibility of killing the mastermind.

She did the best possible course of realistic action. Perhaps not the most ideal outcome, but the most realistic. It sucks for Rantaro, but he would most likely have died anyway (along with everyone else).

Danganronpa has had some sympathetic culprits before, but I think its actually literally impossible to blame Kaede for anything. Not only did she try to save everyone, when she realized she messed up she was even willing to pay the price.

Bah. After checking around forums, turns out it's a fuck up from Sony.

Now I have to contemplate whether to import from Amazon or wait for Sony to fix this s***. While I do indeed have the funds to leave my digital copy to rot and import a physical one, I really don't want my $60 to just go down the drain like that. I mean, even if I successfully refund my copy of the game, my money is still stuck in that stupid Playstation Wallet with no means for me take it back to the real world. I really don't want to let such incompetence have a victory over me.

Worst comes to worst, I could just tough it out with Mandarin. But reading Mandarin is mentally taxing.

Chapter 4

This was all pretty bad. Would've been a lot less boring if they'd went along with Miu's plan and had her kill Kokichi instead. I kept expecting them to come up with more interesting theories too, like Keebo being able to walk through the wall because he's not human, or Maki being able to kill Kokichi during the trial because they hadn't voted yet so she wouldn't be Blackened due to the rules we found out about in Chapter 3, or someone at the end suggesting that they should vote for someone other than Gonta, because voting to kill him would be worse than all the rest of them dying, or the thing about body swaps being true and it would turn out this was all Miu's scheme to swap bodies with someone else and thereby get away with the murder. Oh well, hopefully the game will get off its downward trajectory next chapter.

Chapter 5

They definitely made it interesting. All the debates and stuff were pretty well done. I especially liked that they finally brought up the idea of purposefully voting for the wrong person just to kill someone (Kokichi in this case) because he deserves it anyway. I kinda thought they'd bring it up in regards to the previous case too, since they were talking about Shuichi's guilt for getting Gonta killed. Discovering the 'truth' was a bit disappointing, since it's definitely not the sort of thing that would drive Gonta to kill someone. When I originally played case 3 of DR2 I kinda hated it because of how dumb the motive was, but the explanation later in the game was brilliant. They definitely didn't manage the same thing here. The most unfortunate part of the case was how slow the cast was, specifically with the murder video. The trick was incredibly obvious, and it's kinda ridiculous how long they took to catch that. Was annoyed that I got penalized for saying Kokichi was the likely victim early in the case too, since everything pointed to him being dead rather than Kaito. Kaito saving Kokichi from Maki was a big negative too. Case definitely knocked him down a couple spots on the cast list. Kokichi finally had a decent moment at least, which may have been enough to raise him from last to...second last? Or maybe not.

It's interesting how they're hinting at their being a mastermind again. Wonder if it'll be Tsugumi? She's done...nothing? The whole game? Her biggest moment was changing clothes with Kaede in the first chapter. At the moment, she's the least important character in any of the DR games. Not sure if there'll be an actual mastermind among the cast members though.

Thoughts as of chap 3 ending
enjoying it so far, mostly. I actually like shuichi and thought the first case was cool. Actually the weirdest thing about it for me was rantaro being the death. He had a lot of mystery left and was voiced by Jyb. Like why get him for such a small part at this point in his career? Then I thought it all made sense when Angie was talking about reviving him, and then the double murder happens again. This games been really good about both somewhat attempting to subvert expectations while at the same time being familiar. And the Miu/Kokichi dialogue has been great. Biggest issue is the second case had a really bad trial.

And once Mac is done I'll likely make a game completion bomb shelter topic. Seems he's gonna be the first besides me.

Well, it took me a while to figure it out at least. Probably some people could've gotten it earlier? I had some suspicions it was her, but didn't see a whole ton of clues. Amusingly, the first hidden Monokuma I found in Chapter 1 was in the girls' bathroom. Nice foreshadowing there.

Kaito has so many death flags going up that I'm reeeeally hoping it's a red herring. Shuichi/Kaito/Maki is the first set of characters in this series that have made me really want to see them all live.

feels like they really messed up not having two separate blackends. I think having kiyo live and the others having to live with him getting away with it for a case or so would have been really interesting. oh well. not as drawn-out as 2, but more predictable.

Chapter 4: I was actually really annoyed at how long they spent on Miu's plan, since pretty much all of it seemed obvious from the evidence. I guess that was true of 2-4 as well, but still.

The ending was great though. Kokichi is such a shithead and I love it.

Kaito noooooooooooooooo! Knew it was gonna come, though. Nobody survives that many death flags in DR. The idea of trying to trick Monokuma was pretty cool. Definitely disagree with Mac that the motivation for Gonta to kill wasn't good. Somebody as pure as Gonta would've been absolutely rocked by the truth, and his desire to protect people definitely would've made him want to keep them from knowing... Everybody's dead, everything's gone, they were the only hope and failed, and so on since it most certainly would've brought out the worst in everyone like it did. Gonna try to finish this today to see where it goes.

Got a little taste of the game last night before bedtime.

Prologue

Started off by falling out of a locker. Oh hi, Shuichi (i think that's how his name is spelled?). I'll not get attached to you unless you make it to chapter 3. The last time I tried to do that, Sayaka got K.O.ed right off the bat.

Oh I get to be Bartholomew Kuma during investigations now? Sounds like investigations are going to be more complicated going forward. Maybe my Batman powers might come into play during then?

Movement seems to be a major pain in the ass compared to last time. If at any point, I need to skillfully run away from Gundams in real-time to progress, I might just be fucked. Or maybe it's just the fatigue from OT.

The Kuma Rangers have arrived. It's a nice magical girl montage there for my new protagonist and...... I'll have to start all over from the locker? Goodnight, Kaede. The game has already saved for me once, I'll go through the opening sequence again later tonight.

Completed the second trial yesterday. If I were to speculate on where I think the game will go, then I would almost say things are pointing to the killing game taking place in a computer simulation... but that has kinda been done before. Things like there being motive videos about family members, but Monokuma saying they're the only humans left make more sense when they are the only humans inside this simulation. The sorta-flashback things Shuichi is seeing of being hooked up to some machine also makes me think they're in a computer world, but again since it has been done before I'm not sure if this similar plot thread would happen again.

I'm also thinking maybe these kids aren't Ultimates, and they've just had memories implanted. Either way, I think the events in the prologue when everyone wakes up for the first time is going to have some big hints. Kaede's memories of being kidnapped don't fit with this Ultimate Hunt stuff, for example.

The opening sequence quickly deviate and my protagonist starts talking about music scores. No, I'm still not getting attached to you, Shuichi. So what if you have the same talent as Kyoko? I still don't think you have any immunity from elimination.

The first pair I met was Keebo and Kokichi. I think I like Kokichi. His lies but not lies may turn out to be pretty interesting down the road.

To the basement, I find Ryoma in the games room. Doesn't look like he'll make it to the end, but I like him more than Kokichi. The "seen and done some pretty horrible shit" solemn guy.

But what he said intrigued me. From the promotion material I read, we're in a jail. And Ryoma allegedly killed someone with his talent. Does that mean that everyone here has used their own talent to kill someone before?

To the library. No ladder joke? What blasphemy. Maki is pretty dull so far. Moving on, I find green guy again. He gives off that suspicious vibe that he's gonna be the Nagito of this game. Question marks guys usually live long, so I now expect Rantaro to die early just for the sake of changing the formula.

Chapter 4 complete

The first half of this is straight garbage, because the map being a loop/switched around was completely obvious from the very beginning. The second half is pretty good - I wish we had seen more of this Kokichi up to this point of the game.

Theory: they were sent to space to terraform a planet after earth was basically destroyed by meteorites. they attended their funerals on earth because they knew they were never coming back. half the group are "good ultimates," like the ultimate astronaut, ultimate entomologist, and the ultimate pianist, who are in charge of creating a new world. half of the group are "bad ultimates" who have been tainted by despair and are "hunting" them, like the "ultimate assassin," "ultimate supreme leader" and whatever Shuichi's ultimate talent really is (cause he sure isn't an ultimate detective). something happens and they all lose their memories and participate in a killing game on repeat.

Yup. Still prologue.

Met a few more classmates, namely Himiko, Tenko, Tsumugi and Miu. Miu reminds me of a more offensive Ibuki. Kinda like how cheery and enthusiastic Tsumugi is as well.

Of the lot of them, Himiko looks like a fine two-face killer ala Mikan. Tsumugi looks like a fine early victim.

Reached the music room and what the fuck? The Kuma Rangers' appearance startled me. Getting kinda annoyed at how they broke one fine Monokuma down into five faces who aren't really that interesting yet. They just seem to add unnecessary padding to our conversations. Ultimate talent development lab though...... They did catch my attention there.

Big black and white door...... I think I just found the entrance to the courtroom.

Just when I've about to give up on finding the missing classmates, the entrance hall gate opens and I find the ninja, the astronaut and the maid.

But then I found this muscle man. And I immediately suspect he's Sakura's boyfriend. I haven't got his name though. Looks like my guess was completely wrong. I don't like him already.

And turns out I'm completely wrong about the courtroom too. Because red door, shrine of judgement. Found the last student as well.

FINALLY! The OG of Killing, Monokuma has finally take the stage. Fuck these Kuma Rangers.

That was a Dragon Ball reference isn't it? Anyway, hearing Kuma's new voice makes me sad, since it reminded me that his original VA is suffering from dementia and will likely never be able to work again.

So I figured maybe the Kuma Rangers are created using AI Junk's various split personalities. But then other than putting Pink Kuma Ranger with Sad Junko, the others don't quite fit at all.
