Justice League is tracking for less than stellar numbers this weekend.

It's because most ticket sales are a reaction to the last movie in the series, not the current one. At least at first (this CAN change over time, if word-of-mouth indicates that the current movie is radically different from the previous one, either for good or ill).

Batman vs Superman was a hot bowl of steaming turd soup, so a lot of people are hesitant about wasting money on this one. The fact that most of the reviews are kind of meh means that a lot of those on the fence types are more likely to skip it and just wait for it to hit cable/on demand/etc if they bother to watch it at all.

Yes, people often forget that. Granted, in some cases -- like Batman & Robin -- it can solely be based on the new film. (Granted, Batman & Robin was great in its own way -- as an homage to the campier 60s tv show.)

Oh, I also recently discovered that Batman and Harley Quinn (an animated film) was a thing. I found clips on Youtube and, while it was clearly in the style of the New Batman Adventures, it seemed like one of bullshit lost episode creepypastas, since there's a heavily implied (if not outright stated) sex scene in it between a bound Nightwing and Harley Quinn and I couldn't remember any of it.

At any rate, from what I wound up seeing between the various clips, it seems fantastic. There's a tremendous amount of humor including some stuff at the ending where Harley warns Ivy that she's going to unleash her ultimate weapon and then starts to cry, causing Ivy to break down as well... and then you have Swamp Thing appear in front of the villain following an epic buildup, give a speech, and then just leave, to which Harley responds, "Wait, that's it?" and some surprisingly humorous references such as Harley accusing Nightwing of "Kirking her for information" -- ie, a Star Trek reference

If people want to see great Justice League stuff just watch The animated Justice League cartoons on Netflix.

Justice League and Justice League Unlimited were damn good cartoons. Along with the 2 seasons of Young Justice. Now that's good stuff with a great plot, decent animation, and wonderful voice acting.

Just learned that the Punisher is out on NFI. So far behind, not sure when I'm watch it, though. I'm *assuming* that it's largely unrelated to the other NFI Marvel shows except for Daredevil s2. I'm not sure if he cameo'd in Iron First, Luke Cage, or the Defenders.

(And, in general, the *only* NFI Marvel series I'm really into is Daredevil. Jessica Jones was alright, Luke Cage I'm kinda ehhh on because of his role in Jess Jones, Iron Fist hasn't intrigued me, and the Defenders just seems like a time-killer spacing out Daredevil seasons.)

Iron Fist is terrible. Don't waste your time on that mess. The reviews for The Punisher have been solid, but just about anything would be better than Iron Fist, except Batman Versus Superman. Nothing is worse than that steaming pile of poop.

Oreon did inform me yesterday that Redbox not only rents games, but sells games for pretty damn cheap. Like Doom for 5 bucks, Rocket League for 10, and Knack 2 for 5 bucks as well. The most expensive game on the list was 35 for Marvel Vs. Capcom I finite.

You can go to their website, buy the game, and pick it up at a Redbox near you. It isn't a bad deal, and since I don't want digital games in my collection this is a good alternative.

The average human can walk 2 miles in about 15-20 minutes.

That being said, I can absolutely understand why something might be so utterly apathetic about something that even a 5 minute walk feels "too long". There were places I wouldn't walk to when I was a car-less teenager in spite of being willing to walk about 5 miles every weekend to buy comic books. Something can be a 5 minute walk away and still not be worth the 5 minutes.

And honestly, how "far" away something is depends a lot on location. For some people, they basically have to drive a half-hour or more just to buy groceries, and "luxuries" like going to a hobby shop or the movies might be an hour or more away. Conversely, for me I can get to multiple grocery stores in about 5 minutes and nearly every store or service I can comprehend ever needing to use is within about 30 minutes tops (and I can get from one side of my state to the other in about an hour, or from top to bottom in about ). To me, a half-hour drive seems relatively long, but to other people, driving two hours to see a movie might seem normal (while to me it would seem insane).

No, I'm referring to average height (5'8" or so) people with all of the ability to walk. The average human being tends to walk about 2 miles per hour, not counting jogs or stops, and also not counting for inherent laziness as such I used to witness in high school where people walked half or less of even that... EVEN IN AN OPEN FIELD.

I think in high school my gym teacher timed one of the students that walked the entirety of our mile run. Took her 13 and a half minutes just walking at a casual pace. So getting one of these redbox games would be an entire hour-long affair.

However, in my case, driving would take 5 minutes there and 5 back. Is that worth it? No.

That's 10 minutes, $5-10, and gas for games that I might not enjoy. More than that: I wouldn't get around to playing them for months considering I've so much piling up in my room that I'd much rather play first.

Besides, I'm going out on Black Friday anyway, so if I did want to buy these games I'd wait until then to save myself a trip. Save 10 minutes here, 10 there, before you know it I've saved three years. That's three extra years playing Monster Hunter.

Speaking of Hulu, watched the latest Treehouse of Horror lately... and ugh. Just ugh. It had the grossest segment from anything so far. Wound up fast-forwarding through most of that final segment.

The Coraline spoof was kinda amusing, though, (especially for the cat's dialogue) and -- despite forgetting about the Exorcist spoof -- it was actually fairly passable (and it was referenced in the Coraline spoof, which I liked... even if I didn't like how they referenced it.).

Best pun in the episode came during the Coraline spoof. Upon seeing the door leading into the Other House, Lisa comments, "We have this but not a smoke alarm?" and Homer yells in the background, "Smoke is its own alarm." Even remembering it, I'm laughing pretty hard.

I am currently prepping for Thanksgiving. I had Scarlett peel all the potatoes, and then I sent her to work. The good news is that with her adherence at work she got an extra paid holiday off. Mea ing that she got this Black Friday off along with Thanksgiving too; that means left overs, shopping, and snuggle time.

In the cooking department I'm presently baking brownies for my dialysis crew tomorrow morning, and I have made a brine for my fried chicken. The brine consist of salt, pepper, sugar, water, lemon pepper, garlic and onion powder, and a dash of hot sauce. Hopefully the fried chicken will turn out well. If it doesn't I blame Martha Stewart and her damn recipe.

I started to write a pithy, borderline abusive retort to that, but you're actually right.

Normal human walking pace (for the average healthy adult, not the overall average including crawling infants or infirm elderly) is scientifically clocked at 3-4 miles per hour. That translates into a 15 minute mile (for people walking 4 miles per hour) or a 20 minute mile (for people walking 3 miles per hour).

I'm not actually sure why I wrote "2 miles" there. I meant 1 mile. I actually had to do a double-take back to my own post to make sure you didn't change what I'd typed in my quote, because I was like "I wouldn't have written 2 miles there. That makes no sense."

I was actually pretty sure of that info as well. Because track was my sport back in high school, and even recently I'd looked it up again because I was planning a 26-mile hike and I was wondering what sort of time it would take at a general walking pace.

I blame the mods. Clearly one of them secretly edited my post to sabotage me.

Sounds about right. When I was in high school, the Presidential Fitness test required a mile run/jog around 7:30 for full points (it was a "run" for most people, it was a "jog" for most of the track team, especially the distance runners). In actual track practice, we were occasionally expected to run 6-minute miles as part of training (and I was a sprinter, not a distance runner, so it was solely for conditioning). And the fastest distance runner in the school at the time (who also held the overall school record time in the mile and who was the 5th fastest runner in the state at the time) would generally clock in around 4:10 or so.

13 1/2 minutes is actually slightly faster than a 4 mph pace, which would make it an above-average time.

I'm glad you got a SNES Mini. I have been enjoying the hell out of mine. I just finished a 10 hour run of Super Metroid. Most of that ten hours was me trying to do quick kills on bosses and messing around. I'm going to go back and try for a 3 to 4 hour run later.

Also, Super Punchout ticked Scarlett off so much that she rage quit. It was funny until she took the rage out on me.

I did fiund out the extent of my nerve damage in my left hand. I really can't play Street Fighter on a standard controller any longer. It's one of the reasons I got Tekken 7 for 20 bucks on Black Friday.

Anyway, a lot of great games on the SNES MINI, and I'm glad you found one. I miss having a Toys R Us in my town near me. It closed and they turned it into an Ashley Home Furniture store. Now I have to drive 45 minutes to the nearest store and it sucks.

In Wave's video?

Probably depends on what version of Nomad you're talking about.

Though if you mean Cap, it just looks like a super-dirty version of his normal costume (you can kind of see faint stripes on it in the last shot if you look close). If anything, I'd be more reminded of the time when he was "The Captain" for a while.

Especially since the shield he used then was actually made for him by T'Challa, so you could sort of see the whole thing as a reference/easter egg.

Enjoying the living hell out of Persona 5. There is just so much to do and absorb.

The social elements have finally opened up to me, and I have to choose how I spend every second of every day. Also, I have a deadline to complete the main quest while I have endless side quest options. Everything from a part time job to dating to reading for fun and even studying, so I don't flunk out of school, It's overwhelmingly great.

The turn based battle system is fun too. You have melee attacks, gun attacks, Persona attacks, and all sorts of other systems. You have to pay attention too because the enemies have the same systems including critical attacks, all out attacks, negoations with demons. Meaning if the enemies get rolling you could die before even getting a single turn. It's so versatile and great.

No offense to Grand Theft Zelda, and Mario with a magic cap, both are great, but they aren't this game, not by a long shot. I haven't even mentioned the amazing story. It's my game of the year so far with a month left. It's great, go buy it now.

Basically, yes.

In the mid-1980s, there was a storyline where Cap shot and killed a terrorist on a plane (using the terrorist's own gun), because there was a situation where it was the only way to save hostages. But it became a media hot button issue and opened the door to moral questions and all sorts of things in-universe, ultimately ending with "The Commission" (a government oversight group that basically had authority over the Captain America identity at the time) giving him an ultimatum - come work for the government exclusively and follow their specific orders, or give up the Captain America identity completely.

So Steve basically says "Nah, fuck you" and leaves.

At which point The Commission give the costume and the shield to John Walker - a hero who already existed and called himself "Super-Patriot" - who had already feuded with Steve in the past over who the more patriotic hero was. The Commission saw him as an improvement because he was willing to do what they told him, but pretty much everyone else who knew it was a new Cap kind of shat on him for not being as awesome and selfless and so on as the "real thing".

(And this wasn't even a new angle, storywise - there'd already been like 3-4 other Captain Americas other than Steve at various times, and Steve himself had given up the identity to become "Nomad" when he grew disillusioned with the government in the 70s, but it was actually relatively well done, in my opinion.)

As time goes on, Walker sort of starts to crack a bit under the pressure, getting more and more aggressive and unreliable (which gets way worse after former friends leak his secret identity and former enemies use that info to kill his parents).

But meanwhile, Steve is like, "I may not be Captain America anymore but I still believe in protecting people," so he comes up with an off-brand black costume that still looks a lot like his old costume and calls himself "The Captain". And the Commission is like "You're not fooling anyone dude," and he's like "Yeah, but you can't actually stop me, so fuck you."

When he first starts out he gets Tony Stark to make him a new shield (a solid silver-metal looking thing, made out of adamantium), but it's eventually revealed that Tony is in the middle of his own little personal crisis (the "Armor Wars"), where he's going to start hunting down anyone wearing armor and destroy it out of paranoia over who may have stolen his technology and the ethical considerations of whether or not he's responsible for the suffering of innocents who are hurt by criminals wearing technology derived from his designs. There's an implication that Tony only made the shield (and gave it to Steve as a free gift) as a sort of advance bribe to keep Steve from getting involved and trying to stop him, which doesn't work because Steve is like 110% ethics incarnate and refuses to accept the bribe, sending the shield back to Tony once he realizes the intent.

Then Steve gets his second shield (which is mostly vibranium, and has the concentric black/red/white circles) from T'Challa, and keeps it for the rest of his time as "The Captain".

Eventually, it turns out The Commission is secretly being controlled by The Red Skull, who engineered Steve's getting ousted and replaced by an unstable thug as a way of sort of ruining the image of "Captain America". Steve finds out, beats the shit out of the Skull, and the whole thing ends with Steve getting the costume/shield/identity back while John Walker has sort of suffered a nervous breakdown and is probably going to be dealing with prolonged psychological therapy (though he does admit in the end that Steve IS the better Captain America, sort of putting closure on it all).

The whole overarching storyline ran for like 30 issues or so (nearly three years) back in the mid-80's (with occasional detours into other storylines, like when Steve had to deal with Viper taking over the Serpent Society, who eventually turned Ronald Reagan into a snake-man) - it was some of the first Captain America stories I ever read, because they were coming out around the time I first started getting into comics, and I still think of them (and stuff like the Armor Wars and early 80s X-Men) as some of the best stories Marvel has ever written.

But the upshot of all this is that, after Steve stopped being "The Captain" and went back to being Captain America, the government apparently kept that costume and the shield T'Challa gave him, and gave them to John Walker instead (presumably after he'd finished therapy and was more or less stable again, though it's implied they may actually have straight-up dicked with his memories to some degree, erasing some of the more traumatic elements, like his parents' murder). The assumption was that while he couldn't handle being Captain America, he COULD theoretically handle being a government super-agent who came with less baggage and expectations (and who would follow orders rather than being a rogue loose canon like most of the Avengers were), so he became US Agent (while wearing the old "The Captain" costume and using that shield).

Now, WHY Steve would let the government have that costume (which he had made for himself) or the shield (which was a personal gift from T'Challa) was never really explained at the time (and if it was ever explained later, I missed it), but US Agent showed up in West Cost Avengers later when John Byrne was writing it because he apparently wanted his own Captain America on the team, but he wrote him more like Guy Gardner (ie, the "asshole" Green Lantern) than he did the way Mark Gruenwald wrote him in Captain America. So I assume Byrne just ignored the continuity questions, because Byrne is apparently kind of an asshole and a prima donna IRL.

You mean "Nomad" was well-done or are you still talking about the Captain storyline?

I'm not sure anybody in the industry takes things like continuity all that seriously. Kind of an issue whenever you have never-ending series with no clear overarching story plans leading to a definite ending and everybody is allowed to have their own vision for characters.
