So Nisio Isin stuff,

It's come to my attention that the OVA anime of the Zaregoto series is about done, sometime within the week. It was originally suppose to be finished May this year, but it took a number of delays because Shaft, the animation studio, was too damn busy with the monogatari series and 3-gatsu.

Also, one of his works is being adapted for this fall anime season, and it's Juuni Taisen animated by not Shaft. It's a yet another battle royale anime, but I have faith and hope that his writing will make it interesting. It's implied that it's a split-cour with another season's worth of material, but that might just be a translation error and a leap to conclusions.

I liked a bunch of the fillers from the original series. I only watched the fillers once though so I don't remember them all. I just liked that you got to see more of the side characters.

The Shippuuden fillers? I didn't like those ones as much XD

Story arc filler is the worst. Instead of just having a one off filler ep that's easy to ignore, they torture you with an entire meaningless story with hollow emotions and nothing to add to the real story.

Yeah, a nice character design is probably the best to hope for, then you remember you'll never see them again. :(

A few eps into to Souten Kouro. Liking it so far, but I do dislike watching anime about Chinese characters, cause of the way the names are done, since they're typically pronounced differently than they look like they should be, from what's written in the subtitles.

While it wasn't the character that I liked, they did incorporate the other character from that arc into the manga. Although it was only very briefly.

Did you read all of the manga? If so, I really want to see the reverse harem no jutsu scene animated. It was about the only funny scene that late in the story. It's a shame Kishi didn't work a bit more into it down the stretch. It's one of the things that One Piece does well. I also want to see th ending animated of course. Just haven't had the motivation to finally power through it and finish up the series. I'm trying not to start anything else new right now, so maybe after I finish up Souten Kouro, I can jump back onto Shipuuden.

I sure did. I stopped watching the Naruto anime about 5 filler episodes into them at the end of the original series. I think at that time I read somewhere that it would be only filler for the foreseeable future. I decided to start the manga then and just kept reading that.

I think that scene you want to see is in the anime. I'm pretty sure I saw it.

Started on some of this seasons finished anime, I thought I'd get the ones that don't seem that good out the way first so I started with Hajimete no Gal, the first episode was terrible but at least by the end the MC turned out to be a kinda-okay guy and the main girl was actually a good character, the "I wanna hook up with preschoolers" guy needed to not be in the series at all, if that was supposed to be funny then it failed hard.

I now just saw the first two "episodes" of Netsuzou TRap, this one seems like it's going to end up being pretty bad so I'm glad I'm getting this out of the way now, hopefully by next week I can start watching the "good stuff" I'm quite looking forward to watching My hero academia again for example

As I have noted before, though I have completed Netsuzou Trap, it is, in my estimation, shite. *nods* That rewatch of Sakura Trick was exactly what I needed to get that out of my system (and revisiting Kindred Spirits, too). That is what bad yuri looks like in anime format (IMO).

Looking forward to the next season of shows, but I want more New Game, and there is no more New Game. Sadness.

Also: Muv-Luv Alternative has been on Steam since Tuesday, apparently. Surprised I did not receive e-mail from Kickstarter about that.

I did a bad thing. I browsed the Anime & Manga -- Other Titles board. *facepalm* (No sign of Rhydon there, BTW.) But I also looked at the Split List, and ... behold, a Super Robot board. But it has had no new posts for the past four months. Depressing.

I got Gundam SEED vs Z.A.F.T for PSP last Saturday. Its pretty cool, I've never actually read or watched Gundam but I like this game. It feels as if I bought a bunch of Gundam action figures & had them all fight each other in my imagination, only its not my imagination, its a full blown video game where I straight up pilot gaint Badass mechs!

I'm such a happy otaku right now (^_^)

Do any of you guys enjoy playing mech based games? Are there any other mech related games you think I should look out for on PSP, PS1, GBA, DS, SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast or N64?

Missionforce Cyberstorm is a turnbased, strategy mech PC game that I enjoyed from the 90's. I think I tried installing it a few years ago, but I couldn't get it to run.

I got to play Steel Battalion at PAX east some years ago, and I remember seeing it recently at PAX also. Super realistic and It's got a ridiculous controller, that warranted a retail price of $200 when it was released.

Quoted from wikipedia, "At the beginning of every mission, the player must 'start up' the machine and operating system; this is handled through a series of switches and buttons dedicated to this purpose. If a corner is turned too fast, the machine will tumble over. If the player's machine overheats, its operating system must be reset. The game even simulates window wipers in case of mud hitting the monitor. If the player does not eject when prompted, the player's in-game character will die, and all saved data will be lost, causing the player to start over."

Just finished up kakegurui. It was pretty enjoyable. i love all the yuri imagery even if it's just being used to play up the seductive nature of gambling and has nothing to do with actual yuri. The gambling was pretty fun as well but it was definitely more about the nature of gambling in general than anything very clever about the games themselves. Akagi still has by far the best game/gambling strategy in anime and kaiji is probably a better exploration of the gambling theme but this series was still unique enough and well made enough to be worth watching.

Not sure which show I'll watch next. Tsurezure Children is something I don't remember being high up on the list earlier in the season. Either I just forgot about it or it really surprised at the end or something. Might watch that. Class of the elite seems like I might enjoy it (although it also seems pretty similar to kakegurui with the whole school merit based thing). Princess principal seems somewhat interesting and the ending hasn't spiked it down so it's probably worth a watch. Not sure if I'm in the mood for it right now though. New game season 2 is a must watch for me as I loved the first one but I'll probably save it for a rainy day. On top of those gamers and aho girl look to be decent but probably nothing special.

Made in abyss however is the one I've most wanted to watch the whole season but I don't know if I'm really in the mood for it. Seeing that it's rating didn't change much is a good sign. I guess I'll think on it. I'm kinda leaning towards class of the elite but I don't really know.

I'm sightseeing rural Japan in google maps street view like a weeb. I didn't expect there to be so many narrow one lane wide roads, though it depends on where in Japan you're looking even though it's practically all mountainous. No room for drifting ha. It's probably pretty fun with motorcycles.

I started made in abyss. It's pretty fantastic so far. The art really brings the world to life and the whole thing feels very genuine and not overly anime, if that makes sense. Only 2 episodes in and I'm already dying to see the bottom of the abyss. Also it sounds like the "curse of the abyss" is just decompression sickness from coming up too fast. Seems like even if thats not the case they could easily make cities at various depths so people that go deep and people from the surface could still meet half way. I kind of wish this was a game I could play instead of an anime. I want to explore it.

What Super Robot Wars games are you specifically referring to? I know of the GBA, DS & PSP ones. Wasn't there one on SNES too?

Is Super Robot Taisen related to Super Robot Wars?

Super Robot Taisen is the same series. The U.S. release of OG1 and OG2 decided to use Taisen instead of Wars due to possible copyright violation (i.e. there used to be another game called Robot Wars).

The SRW franchise goes all the way back to the original Game Boy (in '91) and spans all kinds of different consoles and portables, though it is predominantly a Playstation series, these days. The most recent games, Moon Dwellers and SRWV, can be found on PS4, but there are dozens of games if you go back and do not mind using translation FAQs.

haha I used to do that all the time, thought the same things as you too- "wow there is a lot of narrow one lane roads out here", "huh no room for drifting".
It was fun to do, I'd throw on a playlist, pick a rural spot, and just click up through the roads.

I finished whats currently out of made in abyss but theres still one more supposedly hour long episode to air in a couple days. I am immediately annoyed there aren't a few hundred episodes of this for me to binge watch but on the other hand, I don't know if I could take it. The abyss is scary and I get that same feeling watching this as I do when I'm playing a game and going through some new hard area and I haven't saved in like 4 hours and I'm carrying tons of good stuff but I'm basically out of items and I'm just desperately hoping to find the boss and beat it so I don't lose all my stuff.

Or I guess the most real example is playing a souls game and being in some new hard area that you have been going through for like an hour and your pretty sure you probably missed a bonfire somewhere. That sense that an enemy could pop out of anywhere and end you in a second or that you could fall in some trap or that you might be invaded and pursued.

Made in abyss feels like that the whole way through. Theres a palpable sense of anxiety you feel for the characters at all times, like that any moment could be their last. I say this knowing full well that they can't just kill off the main characters half way through. The show is just so effective it makes you second guess that pretty constantly, at least for me.

They also do not skimp on actual fucked up situations. It doesn't have the sense of like a horror story, it more just makes it feel like humans are so incredibly fragile and the abyss is much stronger and more deadly.

The sense of mystery and wonder the show provides is second to none. I can't think of anything I've wanted to know in anime more than I want to know whats at the bottom of the abyss. For a long time I've longed for a good fantasy anime that plays on the themes of exploration and wonder and it feels like this is finally the show to do it. The abyss feels so real and alive and I just want to see more of it.

Fantastic anime, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't watch it. Theres no way this isn't anime of the season, probably of the year.

Made in the Abyss is one I'm waiting for as well, though not as much as Hero Academia s2. Finished my rewatch of s1 and am eagerly awaiting s2. Watched an old ova called Dragon Half. It was more entertaining than I was expecting. It was a parody show and only 2 episodes, so I didn't have much in the way of expectations for it. Found out there's a ova prequel to GTO, so I'm gonna have to get around to watching that too. Still not really playing anything, besides some Fallout Shelter, but I think I'll be starting Hyperdevotion Noire soon.

Hmm...something is worrying me about made in abyss. The final episode title "the challengers" is the same name as 38th chapter of the manga, so far episode 1-12 covered roughly the first 22 chapters. I heard on one of the MAL forums someone saying the director said the ending was rushed. They better not actually fucking try to wrap up the series in one episode, even if its an hour long. This has all the set up of horrible anime original butchered ending.

I guess I only have 2 days to wait but this is greatly worrying. I HOPE they just wrap up volume 3 as I understand it probably has enough content left for an hour long episode but that one rumor and the episode title greatly worries me. I also heard it didn't sell very well. I wonder what the chances are that they originally intended to only go through volume 3 but after poor sales were told to give it an original ending and wrap everything up. I'm gonna be so bummed if thats the case.

Danganronpa V3 has arrived, and I have high hopes for that game, but ... I started playing Peach Beach Splash (i.e. fan service Splatoon) instead. Takaki, the creator of Senran Kagura, more or less says it all in his introduction in the manual:

"Hello, everyone. This is the Righteous Boobage Producer, Takaki. Senran Kagura has grown more and more thanks to the support of boob and ass lovers around the world! PBS is a new game -- a TPS [third-person shooter] -- and our team came together for this challenge. Nothing would make me happier than for this game to bring a smile to your face. I have said it before in this series of topics, but this man is our hero.

It helps that the game is a lot of fun. My first PS4 title in the SK series, and it looks great in HD. Looking forward to the PS4 remake of the original Senran Kagura, too, but that is a little ways off.

Chapter 38 of the manga still isn't very close to the end of the story overall (which is of course unfinished). It will however mean the show essentially caught up to the manga and we will have to wait a while for a possible season 2. Also fuck reading manga, the abyss is so hard to make sense of in black and white.

Is the manga artwork that shoddy?

I'm still reading Golden Kamuy and I haven't caught up yet. It's got beautiful art of wilderness. There's so much detail and work put into it, that it's honestly bewildering and it sows doubt in me that it's genuine. I skimmed through some chapters to find some of the art. It may not be present in every chapter, but it's there. I might as well also say that its action panels are also quality given the mangaka's talent and really visceral.
