Year before last. The actual matches last year were nowhere near as bad, but the commentary was literally Matt Striker watching the camera pan past attractive women where he would catcall or just say, "HELLLOOOO."

Wasn't Striker spending more time on twitter and bitching about people being critical of his commentary than calling the actual match?

I sorta liked Striker back on Smackdown, but "THERE'S NO THIGH SLAPPING" unchained Striker is worse than Cole/Byron/Otunga/TNA Tazz whoever you can think of that's bad.

I feel like CMLL puts on better big shows than AAA, because even if there's less starpower at times, the main event is usually a quality 4 star if not more affair.

CMLL does put on better shows; but the sheer ridiculous stupidity of TripleMania is more entertaining. Striker definitely spent a lot of time on Twitter. It was bizarre and hilarious.

That's fine in a chatroom/thread but its distracting during the show.

Listening to the Japanese commentary, people like to talk about how much emotion they put in, but half the early portion of the matches, they often go in weird tangents too.

But Milano Collection is actually good during the big moments for pointing out certain aspects going on, Liger just screams 'Oh my god' like Japanese Joey Styles.

and yeah, I guess CMLL is kinda safe but a little boring in how by the numbers it is.

tbh, I see most of their talent on the Fantasticamania shows.

I'll check out a bunch of matches if I hear some hype (ex: Lee/Kamaitachi feud a couple of years back) and the big shows back when they had La Sombra.

Feels like WWE killing off Los Ingobernables stopped something magical from happening.

Feels weird that we've reached the stage where a fight between mayweather and some ufc fighter is bigger the Rock vs Cena.

The rock was a bigger name than either of these guys and WWE used to be really good at building PPVs up.

If you told me 5 years ago that the ufc would produce a fighter that could generate this level of interest, I would have called you crazy. Brock at his peak wasn't this.

People are willing to pay buckets to watch charismatic people beat the hell of out each other, especially if it's a freak sideshow mismatch. Of what little I've seen of McGregor, he's hardly the best fighter in UFC. He's just good at pissing people off in an almost comedic way, and people gravitate to that...I guess. Mayweather's done the same thing (save the shitty fighter part), so it's a match made in retirement nest egg heaven.

Now, why people are willing to throw their life savings away on tickets or PPV? That's on idiot consumers who lap this shit up. As I said before, $100 is just plain dumb. If nothing, it proves WWE throws money away with the Network. Sustainability versus risk/reward profit I suppose.

McGregor isn't the #1 p4p guy, but he's beaten a ton of high quality fighters. If anything, his talking has people underrating him.

It's also way harder to stay undefeated in mma

Oh, Mayweather is absolutely a better boxer than McGregor is a fighter, and this being a boxing match obviously widens the gap between them considerably.

But when it comes to mixed martial arts, McGregor is at worst top 5 p4p in the world. I would probably go Jones, Johnson, Cormier, and then McGregor is right there.

EDIT: Actually maybe #5 because I think he would get mauled by Khabib. He slots on right there above #6 Cody Garbrandt though.

While khabib might be a better fighter, his injuries have stopped him from accomplishing the results we expect.

So I wouldn't put him above McGregor yet, since Conor has actually gone and beaten top guys already.

I would agree that Khabib has the potential to be better than McGregor; I don't think we'll ever see that in practicality however.

True. And I'm probably wrong to rank him below Khabib based on theoretical results. McGregor has possibly the strongest resume in UFC, and it only gets stronger every time Max Holloway beats someone up.

I would say of the current guys, Jon Jones has the most quality names under his belt, it's just the PED stuff that clouds stuff up. I also think people are sleeping on Stipe, HW is a bit of a roulette, but he's still destroyed a number of guys who are darn good.


As for Mayweather we talked about a lot about the guys he has ducked, and he did avoid Margarito and Pacquiao (Margarito for good reason), but the guys he's beaten were still pretty damn good.

Corrales, Castillo, Gatti, DLH, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley, Canelo and Cotto are all really good, even if he didn't fight all of them in their primes.

I still feel Mayweather gets too much heat for "ducking" Manny. It was Manny who wouldn't agree to the blood testing, which seems fishy to me. And with the way he eventually dismantled him, I doubt he was really ever that scared of him.

His performance against an in-his-prime Canelo leads me to believe he never needed to duck anybody. He just never wanted to take a fight that didn't maximize profits.

He would have won either way, fighting Pacquiao. Though the Pacquiao who beat DLH and Hatton would have put up a better fight, than the one who went through Margarito, Rios, Marquez etc on top of all that.

I don't think Canelo was in his prime yet, he's looked better in post-Mayweather fights than the ones in the build up to the Mayweather fight. Canelo was like 22 against Mayweather, I reckon the Canelo fighting GGG is a good deal better.

If Mayweather was gonna do something like this, he would have done it against Pacquiao.

The rematch had pacquiao won, would have done huge numbers. Mayweather had no idea a unicorn from Ireland would show up to give him another 9 figure payday.

Mayweather cares way too much about his legacy to throw a fight. He has a chance for 50-0, a chance to break Rocky Marciano's record, a chance to retire undefeated. Plus there is no way he's throwing the fight and fooling anybody.

The only chance McGregor has IMO is a Victor Ortiz style flash knockout where Floyd tries to show him up and he tags him. Even then I'm not sure he can touch him.

Everywhere here is charging between $20-25. It's such a fucking ripoff.

I wish places handled it like most other PPVs where you get charged extra if your bar tab is below X amount. Because I always comfortably cover that amount but no way on earth am I paying $20-25 just to get into a bar.
