I was fine until the 3DS era. Pokemon Sun was a chore to get through from start to finish

I loved gen 1 and 2, but couldn't get through Gen 3. I then wasn't going to bother picking up Gen 4, but around that time I discovered Nuzlocking and that reinvigorated my interest.

I now Nuzlocke my way blind through every new game of a generation (I still generally skip the second game for each gen to avoid getting burned out). Haven't played Sun/Moon yet, although that was because I wanted to Nuzlocke it for my channel, but recording 3DS footage is hella expensive (so, I did one in HeartGold instead, another game I skipped).

Point is, try Nuzlocking!

Pretty much this. I actually ended up returning X be for even finishing it. Didn't finish Sun either though I was enjoying it more than X so I still have it.

The exception was Pokemon Black/White for me. Think it was because we were locked into just new pokemon till after the Elite 4. Made the game feel fresher to me for whatever reason.

I definitely didn't enjoy Moon as much. I think the formula might just be getting stale? But I can still go back and play through gen 1 and 2 and have fun but I might be able to blame that on nostalgia. I'll always like the Pokemon I grew up with more than the newer stranger Pokemon.

I also don't care for how much more emphasis they're trying to put on the story, that's what really bogged down Moon for me.

I go through phases where I can't get enough of Pokemon for an intense two weeks, and then don't feel like playing it again for months to a year.

I haven't played anything past Gen IV though, even though I own a copy of every gen except the last one.

Gen 4 was essentially the first time I just stopped playing Pokemon somewhere in the middle of it. I had already struggled to finish Gen 3, but Gen 4 was really no fun to me. That generation is so slow and boring and Team Galactic is far and away the worst team (people mock all the Rocket Rattatas but those could actually be a pain in Gen 1. Wurmple though?).

I enjoyed Gen 5 for how different it was, although I didn't love it as much as Gen 1-2, adored Gen 6 and have been so disinterested in Sun/Moon that I haven't even purchased either of them.

I enjoyed Gen 6, but the others were meh to boring. IV had really cool Pokemon, but the gameplay was just so damn slow, V had the good story but lame Pokemon and I have zero investment in Gen VII at like all. I usually get hooked after the first gym, and I hear the first 'leader' or whatever and I'm still really uninterested.

Pokémon Sun was really good. Y was whatever. Gen V is cool. Gen IV is boring. III and before all count as nostalgia stuff to me.

Played Gen 1 (Yellow), Gen 3, gave up on Gen 4 like 2 hours in because eww, then waited until Gen 7 to try again. So maybe it was a time thing, or remembering that Diamond was cancer, but I thought Sun/Moon was great

Pokemon is still my my favorite franchise so yeah

But I have to admit Sun and Moon..were really weak
It's weird because when I first played I liked them, but in hindsight they were very, very very weak
They pretty much killed exploration, something that has been a thing even in the often-disliked XY games
There is nothing more disappointing to get into Resolution Cave, which is probably the last area most players get to visit in Sun and Moon..and it looks like it's a unique cave (shaped like Terminus Cave) and there is a giant middle ground in the middle..a place where you can expect a legendary Pokemon
But instead this is a Zygarde Cell
This is the last damn area you visit, and the reward is Zygarde Cell..for fuck sake?

Gen 4 was fun on an emulator with a speed up function but yeah, the battles are so fucking slow that I completely understand getting fed up with it.

Gen III is where I stopped caring also.

I do however own games from Gen IV, V and VI. Just haven't really taken the time to play them appropriately.

My problem is that I got the most fun out of battling, and now that pokemonshowdown exists I have basically 0 reason to play the games. I even liked what I played of moon, I felt it was a good game, but I just have no interest in finishing it.

I enjoyed Sun, but once it was over and I caught all the legendaries, I didn't feel the urge to do anything else. That was probably the first gen in awhile that happened.

After finishing Pearl, I didn't feel like doing anything extra. I couldn't bring myself to finish White. Then I went back and found that can't stand playing any of the games anymore regardless of generation.

Dropped out at Gen III, mostly been a spectator sport for me ever since then.
