It was a fresh take. The actor actually managed to play Ultimate Spidey very very well. Tobey was never a good Spiderman, just a good Peter. But an old Peter.

This movie hit all the right spots. I was enraptured.

I really disagree that either Toby or Garfield were the problems with Spidey or Peter respectively. That was 100% on the writers. Raimi didn't like the quip aspect of Spider-Man and it showed. Meanwhile, Mark Webb's Peter Parker was irrational, dealing with random plotlines that had no bearing on the film itself and was generally villainous in his behavior. The actors worked with what they had.

Everything dealing with the ship was a big post-trailer letdown, but most of the rest of the movie was spectacular otherwise.

Randomness: I watched Baby Driver right before, where the main character records a bunch of stuff that he isn't supposed to secretly, and Homecoming starts right off with Peter doing the same thing with Happy/Stark stuff and the Civil War battle. It was a very nice transition from one movie to the next for me. I also really enjoyed the solid pre-Homecoming recap of Peter getting his suit and establishing Happy's role in this movie; Peter's awesome reactions to the airport battle; his interactions with Mr. Stark; and then the two months later cut where he's still swinging about but extremely antsy to get some Avengers action.

Tera did some detective work with this. Apparently, 8 years is the only amount of years from 5-9 that doesn't make sense.

Well yes I didn't mean that neither of the actors could manage in those roles, the writing was just bad on those parts. Like, it's astounding how awful Maguire is as Spiderman in those movies, to the point where I can't really stand to watch them anymore, but that's not all his fault. Indon't really like Reimi in general, amd this is certainly a factor.

On the other hand, even the ASM movies both suck, I still enjoy them much more because Garfield is such a great Spiderman, it's not even close. On that same nite, a bunch of that is on the writing, since Maguire could have delivered those lines as well.

I actually think the bigger sin is how little Spidey there is, especially in ASM2. That movie is chock full of pointless Peter stuff. His parents plotline which doesn't lead to anything, the interminable Harry sequences, every Aunt May scene which has no bearing on the film... it's just so pointless.

This movie was put together real well. They were smart in making it a fresh Spidey experience, snuck in a lot of treats for Spiderfans, and I thought they did pretty well with the villain.

I'm really excited to see the character grow over the next few movies. I just hope they don't make him suddenly super-competent, but I want to see him learn to be better, and see him learn to be funnier.

Does 8 years not make sense? This film is 2017, Iron Man was 2008, Iron Man 2/Thor/The Incredible Hulk a year later, then The Avengers a few months after that. Does that not work? Are there other things contradicting this?

So anyway, I really liked this film. It is probably the best Spider-Man film, but I am too scared to rewatch Spider-Man 2 to verify this (scared because it probably holds up terribly).

I really, really liked their version of MJ, it was a great take on a character that Raimi did terribly. Also although the trailers revealed a lot about the film's structure (it is a Sony film, after all) there were some great surprises.

Saw it yesterday and I'd say it's my favorite Spider-Man film too. Never disliked the ASM movies as much as most and loved Garfield as Spidey, but definitely leagues better than those two.

Ketaon makes such a great menacing villain; really hope we get to see more of Vulture down the line.

New MJ was great too. Also really liked how instead of having another Gwen die they wrote off his first love interest in a new way. Was kind of expecting her to die in that elevator.

They were the 79 and 73 year old aunt and uncle to a 17 year old. That is unusual to say the least. Old aunt and uncle makes sense for an older Peter Parker but for teenage Peter they should be in their 50's. Maybe early 60's.

The entire Liz Allan plot felt like it was ripped straight out of Spectacular Spider-Man, and that's a good thing. Even substitue Molten Man for Vulture!

EDIT: Helps when reading that post and my immediate thought to "Keaton" was Josh Keaton.

My only real complaint is that I thought the final fight was a bit messy to the point where I had trouble telling what was actually happening, especially the fight on the top of the plane. Otherwise, a really fantastic film. Especially the writing and casting. Peter's sidekick was great.

Interesting to have a superhero film where the main character directly or indirectly causes every single problem that they need to resolve.

I like the Amazing films a lot more because they actually understand Spider-Man more than the Raimi films ever did. It's hard to hold too much against Webb though because the editing in the movies and the company meddling was just ridiculous. Remember in the trailers for the first Amazing movie we were going to find out a secret about Peter's parents that straight up got edited entirely out of the movie? And the second movie was such a mess because of meddling out of Webb's control too. I think if Sony stopped sticking their dick in the production of those movies, we would have ended up with something a lot more enjoyable.

Anyway, we need to talk about Michael Keaton and how awesome he did. He was truly a special part of this movie being so good. And this is pretty much the best portrayal of Vulture, comics and all. He has a really cool look, a much more solid motivation, and his personality is probably the best it's ever been as well. I really enjoyed how good he was.

Wondering what we get for villains in the next movie. Do we get the Sinister Six or are we going to keep building up to them? And when do we get to see Osborn?

To be fair, I don't think Vulture is terrible. It's not like everything Vulture has been groan-worthy "Ugh, I don't want to see this character" kind of bad. It's just that he's rather milquetoast. Like, he occasionally has fun stuff, and his skill set really lends itself well to Spider-Man's combat set, wherein a flying battle like that is awesome. So it's always enjoyable. And honestly, old man who gets screwed out of business, but is a genius who has nowhere else to go is actually a good concept.

But this time they allow him to go further. Michael Keaton's Vulture is a smart and calculating dude who operates more rationally than just going all in on some kind of scheme, and he has motivations behind him that aren't just "revenge'! He knows he's doing something wrong now, but it's because he was screwed over by a schmuck like Tony Stark who destroys a city and gets to profit off of it, so he deserves to profit off of it too and take all of it, since a guy like Tony doesn't deserve it for personally screwing him. He gets how the game is played, and is only willing to stoop that low when he had nothing left. He's a great villain, and much more inspired than any other Adrian Toomes. But more than that, he lost and he doesn't swear revenge. He has the chance at the end, but he knows Spider-Man saved his life and that he's already caused his family enough pain. He lost, and he just wants to accept that loss, even though a guy like Mac Gargan is the one who wants revenge on Spider-Man. It's a very interesting contrast, and I'm curious to see what comes of it in the future.

And that costume is great. He's menacing, his suit makes a lot more sense and is very practical. It's not just weird razor wings. I loved it. The green eyes were particularly awesome.
