By the way did anyone else find this game was significantly longer than Persona 3/4? I think I spent 30-40 hours more on this game than I did on either of those, but I don't know if that's due to the game itself being longer or if I just take more time going through RPG's now.

Persona 5 took me 80 hours maxing out every Confidant. P3 and P4 both took me over 90 on my first playthroughs.

P3P was ~82 or so for me. That was my first persona so I took it very slow. P4G was 65.

I'm at 73 at palace 6 right now... it's definitely longer. I'm not taking my time either.

Yeah I think I was at like 75 for P3 and 65 for P4, but I was >100 for this game despite it being not even close to my first SMT game

i feel like one way to improve the formula would be to somehow allow the dungeoning to be spread out more

i get that time management is part of the game, but it's less wanting more control over 'in game calendar' time and more control over 'my real life' time

i'm incentivized to spend like 6 straight hours in a dungeon, when i'd be having more fun if i could intersperse it with the dating sim parts

not sure what the right solution is

I think the whole idea of the calling card breaking up the exploration and the boss was their attempt at that. Dunno if I'd say it worked well though.

Yeah they forced dungeons to be at least 2 days now. The problem is that the post-calling card section is like 1 hour at most vs the 5-7 hours of the other dungeon.

They actually did a cool thing in Palace 2 where you had to leave halfway... no other dungeon did that as far as I remember. It made that arc feel really smooth. And Palace 1 naturally had lots of trips back and forth, which made it feel the smoothest.

Mementos is also an attempt to sprinkle dungeon stuff more throughout daily activity, but again it is incentivized to just build up a ton of requests and do it all at once.

A cool solution would be to have some separate kind of time limit as you're in the dungeon, and if you don't exceed the limit, you only use the day time slot and still have night available. To make it better, there could be a third Morning time slot on days off where you can only do very basic stat stuff (reading, making tools) OR go into the dungeon for a very short time. This way, the optimal strategy would be to do a little combat each Sunday, and during summer vacation and holidays they could add special SLink events so you have to choose between those and combat each day.

Just give us two dungeons to do at once. One during the day, and one during the night. With the night dungeon having a longer limit, but a time limit each time you visit.

Forcing you to leave the dungeon in Palace 2 and that one other Palace was great. The more split up they are the better. I was glad the dungeons in this were so much shorter than the ones in P4 though. Think those ones probably took at least twice as long on average, including the side quests.

Sounds like some of you did the dungeons in the fairly slowly though? Palaces 1-6 all took me 1.5-2.5 hours each, not counting the calling card parts.

I wasn't really tracking my times too closely but 2, 3, 4 felt at least 3-4 hours each. 5 was over 5 for sure since it took me 3 sittings.

...yes that is completely different from what I remember everyone else saying but I swear this is my actual opinion.

Overall I really enjoyed the game. Most things about it were pretty good, though the highlight was by far Futaba for me. I do have sort of a soft spot for stories about coming to terms with death, but I felt this one was handled really well. Also even outside of her main arc, the scene with her and Sojiro sometime in November was really freaking good. I do want to talk about the ending now, but before that I'll just say that pretty much every main character did get some really good scenes, which was nice. I really loved the stories of how everyone came to join the Phantom Thieves, even if some of them got essentially nothing after that point :/

Anyways so the ending. Obviously there are MAJOR Persona 5 spoilers in here, so you have been warned. Well basically, to jump straight to the punchline, overall I don't know what to feel about the ending. It might be that I'll warm up to it over time, but right now it feels a bit too...separated from the rest of the game. Like, prior to that point all of the conflicts felt "down-to-Earth" on some level. Sure the Metaverse is a thing, but other than that, all of the arcs were about human conflicts with human villains with human motivations and goals. Then at the very end because it's a Persona game, they decide to throw in this whole plotline about a god and humanity wishing for destruction and blahblahblah. And also don't bother telling me there were hints before hand. At an absolute minimum I was highly suspicious of the Fake-Igor-God-of-Destruction twist within the first 5 hours of the game. I know there were hints. I just don't think it matters. And I mean sure it does make sense thematically and there are some individually great scenes. (Rescuing your teammates from the prison cells in the Velvet Room was perfect.) I just don't know though, something about the atmosphere of the whole sequence still feels off to me when you compare it to the rest of the game. Admittedly I do think this is a case where my opinion could change a lot with time, but that's how I feel right now.

Also regardless of how I feel about the ending this is still a top 10 game of all time for me, so try not to take that the wrong way.

Also Persona 3 is still the best Persona game. Haters gonna hate.
