I honestly don't understand what the term RPG refers to anymore
It was simple back in the day, when RPG meant Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Tales, Breath of Fire
Got confusing when it started to include western games like Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls and the Witcher
And I totally lost it when it started to include games like Fire Emblem and Stardew Valley (it's a fucking farming simulator game)
So what are RPG? Are Mega Man Battle Networks RPG?

pokemon gold and silver are measurably better than pokemon yellow in every way

Fire Emblem is a specific type of RPG that makes sense the way it is defined, but I don't think Stardew Valley fits. And MMBN shouldn't be an RPG either.

Abyss just came at the end of the PS2 when most people moved onto the next generation. I know I didn't play Abyss until after beating Vesperia.

It's quite a list. Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana would probably not be in my top 10. There are several I have yet to play so won't toss out everything.

I might even exclude these from the top 100
Divinity: Original Sin (the ONLY reason why this would be in is because of the soundtrack, the gameplay is a bit mediocre)
Final Fantasy (the original one hasn't aged very well I would exclude it)

Pretty surprised Neverwinter Nights 2 made their list but not FFXIII or FFX. I've heard so many bad things about NWN2 but I personally liked it. It wasn't better than FFXIII or FFX though.

I like the whole 2D scrolling platformer thing, but if the whole game is timed that sucks. I like exploring at my own pace.

Each chapter cycle has a certain amount of pts you can use.

Each difficulty has more content. If you're playing on easy or normal you'll never miss anything because there's less content than hard difficulty. If you're on hard there'll be set decisions that have to be made. These decisions get the A ending which unless you use a guide you'll likely never find it anyway.

So it is "timed" but it's not a big deal.

I'm playing on normal.

Play as you like then since you won't miss anything that they offer. Once you sense the cave of oblivion the chapter is done each time. Usually you'll still have 10+ days left.
