I used to like the Big Mac, but I think some combination of getting older and them making it shittier ruined it for me. Those things are tiny now. I heard you can just combine other stuff off the menu and add your own thousand island and make your own Big Mac for way cheaper

The bacon habanero burger was pretty good. I also liked the chicken selects with chipotle sauce. I guess they just don't want my business.

despite what everyone says, mac sauce and thousand island taste completely different

of course, they straight made a video saying how to make it

In terms of Kroger/King soopers: there's name brand, Private selection, Kroger and Kroger value. McDonald's is the Kroger value of fast food burger chains. That said, there's 3 McDonald's within 1.5 miles of me so I'll take a Grand Mac, please.

What? I think this might be the first time I've heard/seen someone say McDonald's was too expensive.

disregard their dollar menu mcdouble (that's like a dollar fifty now, btw) and mcchickens (actually still a dollar)

they are very expensive.

a big mac, arguably the worst thing to get price to uantity wise, is $4 by itself. no drink. no fries.

you get more bread and lettuce on a big mac than anything else, it's why they made the "grand" mac with the quarter pound patties in the first place. something the signature burger should have always had.

anyways. their pricing is all fucked up.

a "deluxe" chicken sandwich is $4.50.

a quarter pounder is $4.

a double quarter pounder is $5. the meal is fucking $8. how come they add three dollars when they're only adding two things that don't equal the additional $3 if added seperately?

one of their value meals is literally just a single, not double or anything, cheeseburger, fries, and drink.

for $4. that's fine, but only when you realize that you can get a double cheese (actual double cheese) and a medium fry for $3. and then add a large drink for $1, netting you more of the same thing for the same fucking price does it not become fine. it because ridiciulously stupid.

a happy meal, btw, is $3.50, and is the same thing as that value meal, and it comes with a toy.

you could argue that all this is still fairly cheap.

until you add a second person into the mix. then the cost doubles, which means if you both spend $7, that doubles to $14, because duh.

with that $14 you could go to the store and buy the ingredients to make the same thing you'd get there, except it would be more substantial, better quality, and more quantity.

and you'd still have money left over.

at one point fast food was cheap. it was cheap and convienient. over time, however, the cheap dropped off and its only got the convienience.

I honestly don't understand how you can justify spending 7 bucks on a combo meal at McDonald's when you can get a combo meal at Chick-fil-A for just a couple cents more. Wayyyyyy better quality.
Or you can get a Chipotle burrito for around that price.

Yea, it's not that they're actually way too expensive to afford, it's that it's too expensive for what it is. I can easily spend $20 for 3 people's meals, and it's not even a full meal.

Burger Kind is a lot better on price for most things, at least the things I like. Like a dollar and some change gets me 10 nuggets there instead of spending $4 at McDonalds for the same thing. Plus, BK has Honey Mustard which is one of my favorite sauces.

McDonalds pisses me off though, because it's usually not much cheaper than Zaxbys, and for those of you who don't have Zaxby's, it is great. It's a chicken fast food restaurant, but they use real whole chicken tenders and wings that are delicious, big delicious crinkle cut french fries, and have the most amazing sauce called Zax sauce. I can go there and get the 4 piece chicken finger plate and replace the coleslaw with extra fries to get 4 big tenders, a slice of toast, a ton of fries, Zax sauce and a drink for $8, which is a pretty dang filling meal. And their stuff is gourmet compared to McDonalds, so I hate paying almost the same price for the crap at McDonalds.

It's more that people would get a hamburger, some sides, and drink, etc.

Nowadays, the trend towards bigger food items seems to be for people who want only that one food item and nothing else

The only good thing about McDonalds is that you don't have to wait a century for food and they're pretty ubiquitous
Though, if you're spending $8 you should just get a full platter from another restaurant.

The trend for bigger food is largely because the cost of the food itself was at one time much cheaper than the labor costs, and is still the more fluid part of the cost.

If we simplify the math, and assume that a two-ounce burger and the labor costs of assembling that burger are the same, it's possible to double the portion size by raising the price by half (150%), because any increase in the labor costs would be negligible. A $2 burger could then double in size and sell for $3, creating the appearance of an good deal.

Now before anybody says it, no, I dont expect my boycott to have any effect whatsoever, but at least I made a promise and five years later, have stuck to it.
