After leaving the gym, I'm accosted by Fennel, who immediately leads me up to her bedroom and forces her Hidden Power on me. She also tells college stories about her and Juniper.

Anyway, she sends me off on a mission to obtain the Dream Mist. I go do just that, and some Plasma goons "liberate" Munna by kicking it and stuff.

Goddamn, these Plasma battles are really hurting... Everyone survived, but thanks to two layers of Toxic Spikes, Wicklebee and Genesis were badly poisoned, and Pirateking was seriously weakened by a level 14 Trubbish. I had to use two Potions on the second battle, but that one went more smoothly.

Also, Genesis learned Flame Burst at level 14. They really changed the monkeys' movesets.

Fennel gets her Dream Mist and I get a C-Gear that's vastly inferior to the Poketch in just about every way. She then asks if I want to hear more about it, and when I tell her no, she goes into great detail. I prefered it when she was giving me her Hidden Power...

Next up, Route 3!

I beat up some pre-schoolers, nearly lose catastrofy and Wicklebee to a Togepi from hell, and get into another battle with Cheren.

This time, he starts with a level 14 Staravia. Wicklebee was in the lead, but it spammed a bunch of Growls, so I swapped to Pirateking, but not before spamming Sand-Attack a couple times. Staravia goes down, and out comes his level 16 Snivy. I switch to Genesis, who promptly f***s its s*** up.

Next up is level 14 Roggenrola, so I switch back to Pirateking. More s*** was f***ed. Last is a level 14 Panpour, so I bring out catastrofy to Cut it down. That went more smoothly than I expected.

There's no time to think about that, as Team Plasma has stolen a baby's Pokemon! I give chase, enter Wellspring Cave, and...

I'm such a good friend that I leave Cheren alone with the Plasma grunts while I go back to heal. He's lucky to have me.

Paul quickly proves his worth by Heart Stamping Plasma's Poison Pokemon. Well, until it falls asleep, anyway. Not to worry, as Pirateking steps in and hits level 17! Pirateking learns Razor Shell, evolves into Dewott, gains the Fighting type, and learns Karate Chop! That was a pretty good level up.

Team Plasma goes bye-bye again, and I continue on.

...is caught. It just had to be female... To make matters worse, it could've been a Blitzle, Growlithe, Vulpix, Houndour, Budew, or Volbeat instead. But nope, female Pidove. At the very least, they swapped Pidove's physical and special stats, so they better match its moveset. They also gave it Swift. This is then counteracted by its nature, which lowers Sp. Attack. >_>

So as I'm going through, picking up items and battling trainers on my way to Nacrene City, I come upon a trainer who starts out with a level 16 Shinx. Pirateking was in my first slot at the time, and there's no way I'm leaving her out, so I switch to catastrofy. Spark hits and does a little less than half health, plus it paralyzes her. I try a Headbutt anyway, knowing I'll have to switch again, but hoping the next attack doesn't kill her. It doesn't, and the Headbutt lands. So I switch to Wicklebee, but a Spark does more than half damage to her. This is really bad, so I then switch again to Genesis. This time the Shinx uses Bite, which is dumb considering it wouldn've been not very effective against Wicklebee, but whatever. This allows me to finally kill it with a Flame Burst.

Next two Pokemon are a Nuzleaf and a Lombre, which Genesis and Paul take down with no problem.

Then it comes, a goddamn Luxio. Paul certainly can't beat it, so I have to switch. I look at my team... catastrofy has 4HP and is paralyzed, Wicklebee and Genesis are below half, and Pirateking and swordz are, well... Water types. Weighing my options, I sent out swordz and hoped its bulk would... do something helpful. Luxio uses Bite, which does about 2/3 of my HP, and Water Gun didn't really do all that much damage, even with STAB and a rain boost. I don't want to lose swordz, so I switch to Wicklebee and hope for the best. Luxio uses Bite, which doesn't kill her. She uses Night Slash, it hurts... but not enough. Luxio used another Bite and Wicklebee goes down for the count...

Now I'm really panicking. I send out Pirateking, hoping she'll go first and hoping Razor Shell would kill it... SHE GOES FIRST AND IT DOES KILL IT!

'k, I guess I'm ready to take on Lenora... But first, N shows up to get his face beaten again. He starts with a level 19 Drilbur and Bronzor in a double battle, easy enough for Pirateking and swordz. Drilbur goes down, but anticipating Water attacks, N swapped Bronzor out for a Tympole and also sends out a Zorua.

swordz gets low on health, so I swap him out for Justin. Karate Chop kills Zorua. Bronzor comes back out and uses Extrasensory on Pirateking, making me go omg, but it's nowhere near deadly. Both it and Tympole fall to a Swift + Razor Shell combo. Last up is a Vulpix, but it dies quickly.

N trots off, babbling about Reshiram, and I heal up again before entering the gym.

Lenora's husband gawks at a Dragonite skeleton, and I run away to get into the actual gym. Also, what the hell kind of museum displays a stone because "it's pretty to look at"? I mean, really now.

The three gym lackeys lose pretty uneventfully, although one of them had a Smeargle that knew Aeroblast and Sacred Sun, heh.

I'm so going to die...

I remember from my last brief playthrough that Lenora starts with Stantler and Herdier, which both have Intimidate. Bringing Pirateking out from the get go would be foolish as a result, so I start with Justin and swordz.

The bloodbath begins early. Things seemed to be going good, but then Justin died to a Helping Hand-boosted Retaliate. Bah. Herdier then fell to a Brine. I'm still not ready to bring out Pirateking, so I send out Paul and Lenora sends out Furret.

Stantler decides to be a dick and Disables Brine right before swordz gets the chance to use it. But no matter. After a couple turns, Furret loses and Stantler's left with a small sliver. I'm sure a Full Restore or something is coming... Watchog comes out.

Watchog uses Crunch and brings Paul down into the red. I switch him out for catastrofy. Stantler puts swordz to sleep, so I finally bring in Pirateking... who then gets killed by an Extrasensory. Yay...

catastrofy kills Watchog with ExtremeSpeed and out comes Bouffalant, who I'm most afraid of. Genesis replaces Pirateking... Another ExtremeSpeed finishes off Stantler. A Rock Tomb weakens Genesis, so I switch him out for the sleeping swordz, hoping he'll be bulky or something. Bibarel replaces Stantler.

Bibarel gets a critical Retaliate in and kills swordz, who wasn't bulky enough as it would turn out. The injured Paul gets sent back out. And here I got a lucky break. Bibarel's Aqua Tail missed, and a Headbutt made Bouffalant flinch. A second use of Air Cutter and Headbutt is enough to take them both down, and I win with three casualties. Bleh...

So not in the mood for Plasma's antics. They can go suffocate in plastic bags or something. I'M MOURNING MY LOSSES, CAN'T THEY SEE THAT.

I grab mccheyne out of the PC, and GRINDY GRINDY GRINDY until he's up to par with the rest of the team. Gee, I sure am glad I made that executive decision to count the inside and outside of Pinwheel Forest as separate areas. Now I can have a full team again in time to lose some of them against Burgh.

Also Mega Drain, which was boosted to 50BP.

Battlin' trainers, and Genesis learns Crunch. I think this moveset is good enough now that I'll evolve him as soon as I get to Castelia City.

Battlin' more trainers, showing Plasma what's up. Over the course of my bloodlust revenge on anything living, mccheyne evolves into Palpitoad. Woo, a Ground type! He also learned Uproar, but I'm probably never going to risk using it in a trainer battle...

Also of note, Kibago hit level 26 and learned Giga Drain. Lilligant learns Quiver Dance at level 28, and I looked and saw I get the Energy Ball TM on Route 6, so I decided this was as good a time as any to evolve her using one of the Sun Stones Cheren gave me. Kibago is now a lovely Lilligant, whom will be completely useless against Burgh and oh god I hope I don't have to send her out.
