My question is, who could Cody Rhodes lose the IC Title to? I really can't think of a midcarder who is to the level of the IC Title... which is saying something >_>.

Maybe he makes it to Hell in a Cell, the final PPV before he breaks the record, and is challenged inside the Cell by...THE HONKY TONK MAN.

If he can make it to Survivor Series intact, he will surpass the Honky Tonk Man and become the longest-reigning IC Champion ever.

UNLEASH THE HONK-A-METER

You know, this is the first time I can think of where I would be okay with the record being broken. You can do it Cody!

Well that's when you push somebody. On Smackdown right now they've got Gabriel and DiBiase in the lower card that could be pushed to that level, and heel-wise there's Hunico and Jinder.

Pfft, acting as though Ryder was on Zigglers level when he took the title.

That mandatory put-down aside, thisi s the problem with Codys whole reign- no one who belongs on SD only is on his level....or anywhere near it. This is why he has feuded with Orton, Booker, and now Goldust.

There is however, ONE MAN I can think of.

A man whos DESTINY it is to claim an unwanted title to allow its holder to move on to other things.

ONE MYTH who does this for a living.

THE LEGENDARY, TITLE HOLDER .....

Yeah Sheamus isn't really above it anymore. He's basically turned into a Dolph Ziggler or a Jack Swagger WHC-- just took longer for it to sink in than it did with them.

Honestly I think they should've had Booker or Goldust (can still do that with Goldust I guess) take it a while. It'd be pretty interesting.

Money is on Ted to take it though.

That would make Kofi a 4-time IC Champion, putting him in some pretty elite company!

Razor Ramon, Jeff Jarrett, Chris Jericho, Triple H, Edge, Chris Benoit, Rob Van Dam, Jeff Hardy

The complete list of 4-time IC Champions, all of them except Razor later becoming a World Champion, all except Jarrett in WWE even.

Not sure I'd compare Sheamus to either of those 2 quite yet. Do you remember what Jack Swagger did after his reign? Yeah, me neither, cause I never watched Superstars. Sheamus seems like a guy they're keeping near the top constantly so they can shove him wherever they want in the card should a need arise. Cody has certainly elevated the IC title, and I think that's more of why Sheamus seems close as opposed to fading away.

Going back through results on thehistoryofwwe.com, the last time Sheamus was actually pinned was November 1st by Wade Barrett thanks to Christian interference.

The last time he was pinned prior to that was by Sin Cara on a house show on July 12th back when Sheamus was a heel. The last time he was pinned on TV prior to Barrett's win was on the June 14th SD taping by Christian, after which Orton punted him.

All of Sheamus's losses since his face turn have been by DQ, Countout, or Battle Royal Elimination, with the sole exception of that Barrett match on SD.

He's basically Kofi without a belt.

I mean yeah that makes him more relevant than Swagger was for most of his time since his reign ended-- at the moment though I think Swagger's about as relevant as Sheamus

Just my thoughts though

Sheamus is more relevant than Swagger because he gets mic time and more backstage time and such. He's one of the top guys on Smackdown, he just doesn't have someone to feud with. And there's not much point for him to have someone to feud with until WM now, given the title picture if Henry/Show/Bryan, he's entering the Rumble, and then it's the EC after that.

At least once every 2 years. Remember the first EC, all the stories inter tied into one another on Raw, and it was unbelievable. Or the 6 man HiAC, yeah, the match was not that good, but it was designed to tie all the stories together.

This is the EXACT opposite of the NYR one, which was literally throw a bunch of mid carders at Cena and let him bury them, even though they are not actually feuding.

I hate the EC right now, because, the match loses alot when there are two of them in one night, and it doesn't actually tie anything up, it leads to WM, how can it?

The only feuds that carried over from EC1 was Shawn and HHH, which makes sense, they feuded for ever, and one was the previous Champion. All the other feuds more or less stopped intertwining, the whole point of the match.

As for 6 man HiaC. Rikishi and Taker were completely dropped, Austin and HHH continued to feud, as did Angle and everyone, but it was not like the multi man feuds continued.

I find the biggest flaw in the Road to Wrestlemania being the fact that at least one person gets into a title match at WM easy while 3 people have to really fight for it.

One person has to win the Rumble, and 2 others have to win Chamber matches. The 4th guy (and sometimes the 5th guy) just kinda stumbles into one of the most prestigious title matches of the year.

It's better when it's the reigning Champion (like Miz last year) at least.

Disagree. RVD got an immediate title shot against HBK, Jericho and HBK continued to feud after HBK dropped the title, Booker ended up fighting Triple H for the title at WM, RVD and Kane ended up teaming together soon after, Triple H ended up unmasking Kane...these 6 remained intertwined for the next 8 months.

Disagree. Austin, Rock, Taker, and Rikishi were treated as HUGE Rumble favorites and all targeted each other. Rikishi dropped out of the picture after the Rumble, sure, but No Way Out and Wrestlemania both had 2 matches each consisting solely of Armageddon HiaC opponents. HiaC settled jack squat.

And of those 4, only 1 can even KINDA be linked to the earlier match (Angle vs Rock). Taker vs HHH was all about Trips running his mouth about beating everyone, Trips and Austin was about unfinished business from the car wreck, and finally, Rock Austin was obviously RR Winner vs Champion.
