There are very few things I dislike about FFIX but this guy is one of them. He's a cliche with a bad motive who comes out of nowhere at the end to provide an anticlimactic final battle.
If you don't understand Necron and what he is, you need to be playing a different game, because FF IX is well above your mental acumen.

It's a shame that most people can't dig beneath the surface and thus mistake Necron for a mere shoehorned in final boss, when he's a rather important character with a profound thematic significance to the game's storyline.

I had to look him up when I saw him on the nominated characters list. Completely forgettable like moat of FF9. He gets a few decimal points for not being Tifa or Kimhari tho.
Maybe he's profoundly significant. That doesn't mean he doesn't suck as a character. 1/10

He was foreshadowed in that this game is a throwback to older FFs which had this problem chronically

By the way foreshadowing doesn't make a character good anyway. Zeromus was foreshadowed in FFIV too but that doesn't mean the game wouldn't have been much better if it'd just stuck with Golbez as the villain.
