One of the later years most prominent "jack of all trade" sort of users rising to prominence through quantity in various forms from lists, contests and associations in various predominant topic series. Like carvy his contributions have been in small doses, assisting or replicating other users ideas rather than being the central hub himself.

Points of Impact

-> Prominent presence for VG Music contests.

~*~ 25. Smartmuffin ~*~

Shake24m (15:12:24): Super Saijan Gnome
Shake24m (15:12:27): SmartMuffin
Shake24m (15:13:01): And there was one other...dammit.
Shake24m (15:13:08): That abortion guy. parrot.
Shake24m (15:13:14): Parrot guy.
Shake24m (15:13:20): They'll know who I mean.
- Shake chronicling the 3 worst users he's ever seen on board 8.

Growing up in this part of the world you're brought up in an environment pre-internet with certain stereotypes about those from other countries. The American tag was one of ignorance, loud mouthed and conflict loving people. You soon learn this isn't quite the case, well usually because SmartMuffin is this stereotype. Yet another surreal character on board 8 who if you weren't familiar with these parts you'd assume was some sort of trolling fictional persona.

I'd imagine he's capable of two facial expressions. Sneering and a grimace. His entire being is such an embodiment of negativity I'm not sure if I'm ever seen him make a post that didn't have negative intent towards something or someone. His initial presence on the board was a very unpopular one, dismissed as a troll and expected to go away sometime soon.
As time went on people begun to wise on that his act wasn't actually an act. What he posted was what he believed and this life of dissatisfaction and searching for conflict was how he lived. His threads were often a wreckage but who doesn't enjoy a nice wreckage?
I recall IMing him once while he was relatively new on the board and it's actually a conversation I remember because of how incredibly uncomfortable and awkward it was. I didn't know the guy in anything but name, he presumably had the same relationship with me. The conversation felt like I had just kidnapped his sister and was demanding a ransom, his tone was of one of someone who really didn't want to talk to me but had a grudging desperation that he had to. Possibly the most socially inept person I've ever seen on the board, and that cannot be said lightly.

His posts are some of the best in the business at inciting disapproval from people and I'll admit virtually everything I've read from him has drawn a reaction from me. Never a good reaction but tabloid writing is a talent in itself. I have vague memories of reading a blog of his, I'm not actually 100% certain that it was his blog or if it was SephGs mind but I'll work on the assumption that it was Muffin. The content was as I expected and included a great account of how God surely supports American Football and must hate soccer.

Points of Impact

-> Extreme republican views.
-> Socially inept.
-> Loves conflict.

Yeah you don't know him at all, obviously. He's argumentative when it comes to politics but he's pretty normal on everything else. I've talked to him on AIM several occasions and it's been cool and relaxed, not awkward at all. He recently made a top 25 games list where he talked sweet about some of his favorite games. He's interested in the stock market and has taken some entry level economics courses and talks about that sometimes. Recently he's been disillusioned with the Republican party establishment and Fox News because hes watched as they've marginalized his preferred presidential candidate.

It's weird that you're putting him on an influential list when you clearly don't know anything about him.

I don't dislike Muffin. I'll admit that wasn't always the case, but I've grown to like the guy a lot more. I don't care that we're never going to agree on anything politics-related ever, but what I still find annoying about him is that he seems to refuse to listen to good arguments. In debates he'll often ignore good points made against him - he claims this is because he's regularly arguing with 20 people at once and doesn't have time to respond to everything, but I'm skeptical about this. Not nearly all the Muffin arguments I've read had that many people arguing with him. He refuses to watch a 30-second Noam Chomsky clip, but expects us to watch two-hour videos from conservative theorists. That kind of thing.

SephyG isn't a poor man's Muffin. Muffin definitely believes everything he says, while Sephy just takes whatever political position seems to be the most unpopular on the board to troll people.

Also, I don't recall what was so horrible about Super Saiyan Gnome >_>

SSG had a very annoying way of expressing his opinions. I remember him being particularly obnoxious with his hate for GTA: Vice City - he was one of the main guys being anti-GTA back when it was "cool" to be anti-GTA. He was the stereotype of that kind of person, constantly misrepresenting the games and grossly exaggerating the flaws.

I think that's the same guy, anyway. I remember him being OK apart from that though, that's the odd thing. He liked RE4 a lot so we talked about that. Certainly wouldn't call him the "worst user ever" or anything.

I would actually agree with Smurf that Smuffin comes off as incredibly negative. He often posts in the wrestling topics and everything he says about WWE is so irritatingly negative. Like, he'll say "does anybody actually believe that the stuff WWE says is trending worldwide on twitter is actually trending worldwide on twitter?" (when it was). And before the main event of Money in the Bank (one of the most anticipated matches in years), he was all "this is has no chance of living up to the hype" when the entire chat was pretty much "OMG CM PUNK" - he was the lone voice of negativity.

I don't think Smurf's right (obviously because I don't think he has ever been really right about anything) that SMuffin is always negative, but he comes off as far more negative than the average man. I read that top 25 games list and even that was often punctuated with It's just sooooooooo cliche and stupid and the "twists" are dumb and predictable and, ugh, just so so bad.

That's not to mention the fact that whenever he watches football, he is the worst of the "temporary hangers-on". Whenever there's a major football event like the World Cup a lot of Americans here get invested in the sport, which is really fun 99% of the time - having some new guys talking about it, as opposed to the same old faces - but SmartMuffin and his talk of some anti-America conspiracy and generally idiotic views are one of the major downsides.

I mean talking to someone privately a lot and being friendly to them probably does facilitate a better relationship, but everything I've seen from SMuffin gives me absolutely no desire to talk to him at that level.

Yeah, he is negative (complains about bad officiating quite a bit), but he's not THAT bad.

There's just little to be said about Bellis - he's just "there," never particularly standing out in any aspect. He shouldn't even be on the list... I guess he might've influenced other people being faceless for the sake of e-popularity.

Anyway, SmartMuffin is an alright guy, he's sure grown in my eyes lately. I've also talked to the guy on AIM a few times and he was just fine. He just needs to get his personal life together, that can be a big burden and it's inevitably reflected in one's manner of posting. But it's just like this board to gang up on someone because their opinions differ from the majority... Anyway, he's also supporting the best presidential candidate - something that cannot be said about a large number of people here who can't look past the whole two-party nonsense that was proven yet again to be but a facade behind which democrats and republicans do not differ much at all.

Disagree big time about SephG being "a poor man's SmartMuffin." The only thing the two have in common is that they're republican, everything else is different.

Wylvane I don't think you know the first thing about me if you'd say that. I used to extend my ranking lists to 500 purely because it gave me the opportunity to rant about the people I didn't like in the first topic. Doing a top 10 worst users list was governed trolling, ranking someone #491 best and ranting for a page on how much they suck was A-OK. My best writeups were about people I was bitter with. I do put more detail into more negative entries as I've more to say, hence the longer Smuffin writeup.
Ed, like Moltar and maybe one or two others are guys that I just don't really have any sort of opinion on, there's not much to say on them other than mentioning their contributions.

On Muffin, people have often said there's more to him than "that side" and I'm probably not the best person to judge that given that I'd actively try and avoid reading any thread he's heavily involved in but the parts I've seen, I just haven't noticed it.

Or you could intentionally be trivializing him by giving him a short write-up to make him seem more inconsequential.

I mean, actively insulting someone wouldn't be as effective as indirectly claiming that a person is too meaningless to have more than a few half-assed words said about him.

The point is that we never said there was anything wrong with Ed. Just that he's never been relevant enough to be on such a list. Transience, on the other hand, does deserve a place on it.

And they've been hostile towards me on many occasions without ever considering making peace. As nice a person as I am, I cannot respond to something like that with kindness.

Perhaps their dislike was fueled by what I said about the clique back in the day, but that doesn't even really exist anymore. I am not one to hold grudges, as long as an effort toward reconciliation has been made, but I can't just ignore other people holding grudges against me.

Nah, you're just a dick to be a dick. You state controversial opinions and then goad people into being dicks to you so you could justify to yourself being an a****** to others.

In reality you're even worse than the people who attack you, but you manage to hide it in a thick layer of self-delusion and/or trolling prowess. There's a good reason people view you more as a joke user than someone to have a real conversation with. I mean, people respect f***ing ertyu more than you, and that guy has some serious issues (or is by far the most dedicated troll in the history of the internet).

But hey, keep embracing controversy so people will continue to notice you on a message board.
