Uh...uh, wait.

All of these people have character portraits and social link stuff?

Others have touched on this, but to clarify a bit.

The "Social Link" type stuff is limited to a handful of characters. They show up with portraits on the quick travel map and has its own system that the game will point out when it starts and is beyond obvious.

I think what you mention here is the Friend tab thing. That basically ends up as a list of nearly all named NPCs and they have like 2-5 entries that fill throughout the game. I'm pretty sure you can't 100% it on a fresh NG, and the timing on a lot of the entries can be pretty strict. However, it's mostly for fun. If you fill it up a certain amount you can get an item later in the game, but IIRC, it's nothing you won't be able to get via other methods.

LapisLazuli posted...
Are...they gonna show the OP at the beginning of every chapter?

yes

It grew on me a lot as the game went on. I liked it even though my initial reaction to the idea was along the lines of "that's kinda weird."

LapisLazuli posted...
Gameplay could be a little smoother, but there's at least some variety here.

Gameplay takes a bit to really take off the training wheels. Once you get 3 party members I think it takes most of them off, at which point it's a lot more fun IMO.

Re: Day 1 Noms.

Don't think there's really a good solution here. At the moment, I'd say the old way of "one-tier" can use all noms immediately is the best. My reasoning is that it's simplest and that I'd have some concern that adding conditions like nom limits based on the day could affect participation from people who aren't as invested in the contest as... well, generally the people posting in this topic.

I mean I don't really think there's a question that Congress/States has the ability/authority to enact regulations. As a case study, look at Republican efforts to restrict abortion. Given that SCOTUS has deemed that there is a right to abortion (and whether it is explicitly named in the Constitution or not should simply be an emotional distinction as far as the law is concerned due to that, I think.) Granted, much of what they've done has been ruled unconstitutional by courts, but not all of it.

How is the dialogue/writing in Tokyo Xanadu?

Not as strong as Trails, although, it may be a bit harder to tell because the translation (or the editing I suppose) is a huge step down from XSEED's work and that's all I can work from really apart from occasional moments where my very limited knowledge of Japanese allows me to pick up the differences between what's actually being said and what's being displayed.

But I'm easy to please, so I'd say it's still passable.

...I'll wait and tackle that one tomorrow.

Yes, you do. (Also remember to not KO Dunan)

It's not that bad if you know going in though and prepare accordingly. You'll want protection from Confuse/Faint for everyone. Also try to keep Kaempfer up on him at all times. Personally, for that reason I like to give Kloe Grail Locket + Gladiator Belt so she can always cast it and not worry about CP dropping to zero (Also gives her protection from Mute which is the other status that can happen.) Ideally you traded the Carnelia books for Estelle's weapon for the added power but it's no big deal if you didn't. Either way, Estelle can land a ton of damage against a Kaempfer'd Lorence at 200 CP.

If you use Defense and Shield, that also really wipes out his offense. Stuff like Silver Thorn can hit for 0 damage. Action also a big priority. Clock Up EX is probably optional, but if you can cast it might as well.

XC2 Chapter 10 + Ending Spoilers:

The Chapter 10 intro cutscene is essentially an extended look at an event described/seen at the end of XC1. At the very end of XC1, it's revealed that the world of XC1 was created when a science experiment destroyed the old world and created a new one. Klaus (Zanza) who conducted the experiment and Mayneth (the other scientist whose name I'm too lazy to look up) who was with him ended up in the new world but the true Monado/"God" of the world was Alvis, an AI involved in the experiment.

XC2 provides further context to all that. It shows the situation around the time of the experiment, with the First Orbit Low Station under attack, Aion, and the Conduit. It also reveals that the original world said to be destroyed by the experiment did still exist, if only barely. It recontextualizes Zanza as being the "evil" half of Klaus rather than merely just a terrible person in general. It also heavily implies that more than just an AI, Alvis was the third missing Aegis that Klaus said disappeared. And finally, the reason Klaus dies at the end is because the endgame of XC2 was happening concurrently with the endgame of XC1 and when Zanza is killed in XC1, it kills Klaus too. Klaus seems cognizant of the XC1 world, at least in part, and sees it coming and is why he says Rex's group needs to hurry because with his death, their chance to stop Malos will be lost.

I also think they should definitely at least have reviewed the Torrey Smith catch they called incomplete. He caught the ball, got two feet in, then had it knocked out of his hands by the defender before he ever went to the ground. Seemed like they just wanted to avoid any controversy by not looking at another "is this a catch or not?" play.

Don't you also need to make an "act common to the game" in addition to that if you want argue it was a catch then fumble? Incomplete was the right call, IMO.

XC2 Ending Spoilers:

Yeah, XC1 and XC2 were taking place concurrently. Klaus's experiment mentioned in XC1 is shown with more detail and context. It caused most things to get thrown into different dimensions (I believe it's implied there are others out there, not just the worlds of XC1 and XC2 but this shouldn't be important to the story of either.) The world of XC2 - specifically the Land of Morytha - along with half of Klaus were all that was left in the original world, so he went about re-creating life. And yeah, the Zanza half being killed by Shulk killed Klaus too, during the final XC2 battle you hear Shulk's voice from the XC1 battle. And yeah, the female scientist with Klaus was Mayneth. Same name, IIRC.

Re: Monados/Aegis/Alvis. I don't think this 100% confirmed, but the working understanding I took from all of this that ends up tying these all together is this: The 3 Trinity Processor Cores (the Aegis) are Monados, and yeah, the missing one was Alvis who either got sent to XC1 with the experiment or maybe somehow just bailed and went independently somehow. Alvis being a Monado is yeah. Malos has those attack names. Pneuma isn't as super obvious, but I always took Mythra's Foresight to be taken as the equivalent of Monado Visions. She just doesn't have the attack names to keep it from being obvious. Or maybe Pneuma's Specials are them, they're never named are they?

Pyra and Mythra coming back split could be Zohar/Klaus hax but it could also be that light that hit it contained her memory data or whatever and it "evolved" in the way Core Crystals are meant to based on that. Not totally sure. Also not totally sure what was up with Gramps crossing the rift. I'd probably need to watch the cutscene again because I remember being confused by that. I think they basically have to still be in the XC2 world though. I believe one of Klaus's final actions was ordering the Titans to become the megacontinent.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the details of the Zohar aren't 100% the same across Gears and Saga. But I think it was described - in Saga at least, since my memory there is stronger - as a "gate/conduit" that connects to a "higher dimension." The Wave Existence is an entity that lives in/perhaps simply "is" that higher dimension.

pretty sure the reason zin was changed back to zin was because that's how falcom translated it and xseed concluded it changed it to zane for no good reason in the first place

More specifically, though I'm not 100% sure this is the cause of this particular case, IIRC FC lost its primary translator about 75% of the way through the process or something so things got a bit weird in places. Once the Steam ports became a thing, Hatsuu was basically running the Kiseki show (she wasn't there for FC I think, or not on the project yet at least) and was able to clean things up.

...dammit they wrote a blog specifically about the name change but it must have been before the current one they use and i'm too lazy to find it

Think we're talking past each other.

Since you're not elaborating why you hate it beyond saying you do, I can't really address anything. (You can if you want, we'll see how coherent and timely my responses are, I've had a migraine for hours and I'm losing the fight to it.) So I'm just offering my opinion instead. I know it doesn't mesh with yours and I'm not trying to say it does either.
