The right thing, actually, for corporations is lining the pockets of their shareholders. Safety goes intrinsically against the right thing for a coal company/corporation to do True, but it's kind of a universal truth. I'm supposed to do the right thing and pay for public transport, but I don't because at worst you'll get fined 3x $200 (if lady luck isn't on your side) in a year if you travel to/from work every day versus $10 to/from everyday for ~300 days a year. From 2004 - 2024, I have paid exactly $5,745 in public transport by way of fines. As long as you pay them within 180 days there's literally no consequence (if you don't pay in time they'll suspend your driver's license) and being state debt it doesn't end up on a credit report here. Better still if you have a mental health condition you can get what's called a WDO where you're forced to see a psych and they reduce your state debt by $1k for each appointment until it's paid. When the punishment costs less than the fix and/or not immediately evident (let's be real you can get away with this for 50+ years and they know it) -- or worse, no regulation at all -- people absolutely will not hesitate to take advantage of that. By definition, a squatter is a trespasser. Literally not true. If a house or building has been uninhabited for an extended period of time (including no active ongoing works on the property), if a squatter occupies it for a certain period of time they have a legal right to claim it as their own as an abandoned property, just like if you discard rubbish or anything else (that isn't accidental) and I pick it up I now own it because you abandoned its ownership. I work for a company that has an app. We sell the app directly to people via our website and also through Apple/Google. Apple have made us take down any and all links and messaging that even insinuate there's a subscription you can directly pay us for. We can no longer sell gift vouchers or tell people to sign up through our website through the entire world. Apple don't give vendors access to their systems. If you accidentally made a purchase, you're shit out of luck, call Apple so they can deny you the refund. Even massive, massive companies like Disney don't have access. Google, on the other hand, allows us to do all of this. I can cancel the Google subscriptions of anyone on GameFAQs because Google give us unrestricted access to the Play console. I can refund.
