Some women who've had kidney stones claim it's probably the closest a man can ever get to knowing how it feels to give birth. So...godspeed, soldier.

My dad got a horrendous kidney stone when he was around my age. He also drank an ocean's worth of iced tea which I hate, so hopefully that's a point in my favor.

That sucks, sorry

I hope I never get one.

"High dietary intake of animal protein, sodium, sugars including honey, refined sugars, fructose and high fructose corn syrup, and excessive consumption of fruit juices may increase the risk of kidney stone formation due to increased uric acid excretion and elevated urinary oxalate levels (whereas tea, coffee, wine and beer may decrease the risk)."

Sounds unlikely I will. I don't have much sugar, juice or animal fat, and I do enjoy my coffee, tea, wine. and beer. It actually sounds like adults who eat and drink like children are more likely to get it?

That sounds worse than I meant it.

Lol nah, I get it. I dont even drink much soda aside from the occasional Virgils root beer. Dont eat many sweets, either. I picked up some cranberry juice, so maybe that will help.

The only comfort I can offer is that it is not as painful as gout.

Drink lots of water, take anti inflammatory drugs.

Side note: it's pretty fucking depressing that you're not even the only poster this week who is in agony, but cannot afford the healthcare you need. Shameful.

Not iced tea hopefully. I know a few older dudes who were/are iced tea feinds and both dealt with multiple stones. One of them refuses to stop drinking it and keeps getting stones. Fucking masochist.

I had one of those a while back since I had been on a stint where I was constantly drinking Mtn Dew, though thankfully it wasnt severe enough to warrant a trip to the hospital and I wound up passing it on my own. Ended up switching to green tea and water and thats thankfully stopped any further issues from cropping up.

you guys can keep pretending it's "soda" and "ice tea" but it's animal protein plus a lack of vegetables that increases your risk of kidney stones.

anyway i dont eat meat, i do drink soda, and have no kidney stones. im only 38 tho.

They have jagged edges and sometimes barely fit through your urinary tract.

If it's burning, then it's closer to the end which is great. The incredible pain is typically when it's way back closer to your kidney. It's probably in your actual dick area now. This part is also no picnic, but it's comparatively not so bad. Like youre not going to pass out. You're just gonna really hate pissing for awhile.

If you had gone to a doctor, they would've prescribed you Flomax which widens your pipes a bit and makes this part a million times more comfortable. You're basically scraping up the inside of your dick right now by blasting a sharp stone through it. Expect to have an additional day or two of discomfort in that regard after you pass it. It heals relatively fast, but youre not Wolverine.

If you have stinging for longer than a few days or it doesnt at least start getting better after a single day after passing it, you'll definitely need a doctor though. You can get a UTI which is very bad and can kill you if left untreated.

There are quite a few different kinds of kidney stones and each type comes with it's own reasons for forming. The only uniform dietary advice for all of them is to drink more water. Even then, some people just have bad genetics and still get them.

It's best to have your doctor analyze them and come up with actual dietary advice over someone's anecdotal evidence on CE or a list article they found

That's nothing. I just had a partial nephrectomy (Renal Carcinoma) and the total cost (before Insurance) was $187,000. $35,000 of it still being looked into by my insurance to see of they will pay it.

I'm apparently a stone farmer and didn't know it. I got my first kidney stone early last year. Took me a fucking week to pass it. Then in September, I got two more at the same time. One of those two was so big, I had to have emergency surgery after five days of excruciating pain.
Then, I had a stent in my dick for a week. But when I called to schedule an appointment to have it removed like they told me to after the surgery, they couldn't schedule the appointment because Kaiser was on strike and short staffed. They told me I could just remove the stent myself, so I did. Ended up back in the ER the next fucking day.
Fuck. That. Shit.

Kidney stones are terrible, the part that hurts the worst is the stone moving from your kidney to your bladder, through the Ureter. Turns out it's pretty unpleasant to have a solid object with sharp edges move through a tube that isn't meant to pass solids.
