You are no longer young when you can no longer remember what it was like to be young.

I can't remember when I started not remembering what it was like to be young, which I guess makes me not just no longer young, but also old.

I would love to

I really wish I had left with my wife when she got sick in 2010/11, before we blew all our money on medical bills after we reached our insurance cap. Getting sick in the US can ruin you fast. If we had, she would still be alive and we would be living comfortably somewhere else.

You don't have to give up US citizenship to leave either, lots of places you can move and live comfortably with way better medical, less crime, no school shootings etc. Hard to know that in advance, or that you even need it/it would be better, since you can be comfortable here in this country working away, until things go wrong/bad.

I could have taught anywhere in the world probably, easily supporting us (not to mention the money from selling our house, and all the money we wouldn't have spent on medical), and also gotten way better medical care for Linda. Can't go back and change things sadly, but damn I wish we had even considered it back then. It just didn't even register as a possibility.

No clue, didn't see that in any of the research I did, but then again I was looking at research about retiring there. Admittingly there are some people my age or older that probably would be interested in prostitutes but I sure am not one of em. Wouldn't even have been interested when I was younger. Never even believed/liked casual hook ups, forget about prostitutes.

I always did the rolls a bit like shadowruns system, where the pinnacle of what you can do, independent of the roll, is based on your natural skill.

A nat 20 with a 6 skill in deception therefore can do anything that I think has a difficulty level of 26 or less automatically.

It's not a complete failure after that, but you might not make a total success even with a 20 with only 6 deception skill.

A 20 would work fine (however you get there) for most normal types of deceptions, and convincing someone you changed your race and are another person would just increase the difficulty level of convincing someone that you are that person in the first place. It would also depend on how much knowledge you have of the person you are pretending to be etc.

In general, i'd probably put the DC on convincing someone you are another person around 19-20 base, as long as you have decent knowledge of the person you are pretending to be (have met them and conversed with them, they are a well known figure and you have investigated how they act etc).

Adding to that convincing someone you are that person AND changed your race would probably put the DC significantly over 20....but still below 30 I would say. A nat skill of 8 or higher (which isn't THAT hard to get) would probably be sufficient with a nat 20, but would still fail, at least partially with anything less than that.

Anyway that is how I would play it.

How do people just retire to other countries? How do they get visas to live without working?

In thailand you have 2 requirements to get a retirement visa (basically can stay there forever, but can't own land (you can buy property though, condos etc).

First is you must be 50+, before 50 you can still live there but you have to use 90 day visas that can be renewed once, and then have to leave/return to the country. Way more expensive. The 50+ visa is renewed every year (within 90 days of it ending) and can go on forever without leaving the country.

The other requirement is 24k$ in a bank that can be verified, that is a yearly requirement so you can't go under that amount. They consider that enough money for anyone to live very comfortably in their country, so if you can prove you have that, your golden.

That is it.

You can even get social security from the US there (though still can't get it till the normal age (60-62 depending on circumstances). In theory you can get it at 50 if your disabled though.

Social security would be enough to live pretty comfortably there, but not enough to even barely survive here, so I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes much more common in the future (especially in a decade from now when I could get social security).

There are other places you can move to/retire but not many as cheap. Thailand seems to have a high standard of living, VERY good medical care, good food, safety/security (possibly better than the US with all the shootings etc), and very low cost to live there.

Seems too good to be true, but the research I have done so far seems to support it.

Still along way from even taking a trip there to check it out, but it could be a direction for me to go in the next year or so.

This is going back over a decade so I'm not sure how the costs hold up today but what you're quoting there seems in line with how my sister described things. She had considered moving there herself in part because the cost of living is so low and more importantly the quality of living there was reasonable considering the cost.

Thanks, it would be a huge move, and even just visiting is expensive, so i'm doing as much research as I can:)

My sister taught English there for 2 years but I never visited unfortunately. She loved it.

I've been watching videos of people who retire there, most are well...significantly richer than me, they spend like $3000 a month but live like kings with a full time maid and a huge villa etc. Seems crazy good. They do recommend having about $2000 a month to retire there, which I won't have even close to that much, but they say you can live on around $1000 but will probably have some problems.

I looked up apartments for rent on craigslist though and saw a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with tons of space for $212 a month, internet and utilities are like $50 all together, and food is much cheaper there, not exactly sure why they say you need $2000, perhaps they are just used to living a rich life style already and think just renting a normal sized place and eating/paying for utilities/internet is slumming it.

Cheapest flight I could find to Bangkok from Seatac is $357 so that isn't too bad, and it's $80 to get the visa. Prob would have to give up getting any kinda job though, but I would also not need one as much due to cheaper prices. The food also looks insanely good (Street food, with meat on sticks of all kinds, looks so yum and mega cheap).

Going to do a bunch more research and also have a friend who sadly isn't 50 yet, but might be interested in spending time there (he could get 2 90 day visas before having to return to the states, and do it again). Rent/cost of living is so cheap that even having to pay $700 every 6 months (round trip flight) would still be way cheaper then living most places in the US.

Rather go with a friend then by myself both to split costs(that $212 place could easily work for both of us, and that would drop the cost including internet/utilities to under $150 each a month).

Only thing that worries me is it looks to good to be true, even with all the videos etc, it still seems like everyone in the world would move there at those prices.

So many many moons ago, when I was a kid mostly (under 18), I went to mexico a few times with an uncle. Back then the exchange rate was insane, and you could get tacos for 10 cents (best tacos I ever had), full steak and lobster dinners for $5 and everything was insanely cheap (guitars, leather jackets etc). It was amazing.

Now adays though it's the same price there as here, and I have not been back.

But recently I saw a reelz on facebook, a girl who does videos of all these places she eats/visits, did one on a 5 star resort in thailand. OMG it was amazing. You have your own indoor pool per room, along with a really nice big universal pool for everyone, the food was free (full buffet) etc and it was like $80 a night (which I thought was insanely low for that level of a resort it was beautiful.

So I decided to look up other resorts and there are even 4.7 star hotels there for only $10 a night!!! Most of the ones right on the water are more than that, but some are still only like 24$ a night etc. The prices there are so low compared to anywhere else I have heard of, and the food looks freaking amazing (and is also super cheap.

Much like Mexico back in the day, Thailand has a conversion rate of 3cents baht to 1 usd, or basically 33x as much value from the dollar. That looks at least like it would lead to spending a fraction of what you have to spend here in the US to live like a king there.

I have looked it up online and so far don't see any really big red flags or reasons not to move to thailand or at least visit there for long periods of time.

You can btw, get a retirement visa that lets you stay there permanently, which I qualify for (only requirements is 50+ in age and the ability to have 25k in a bank account for 2 months prior to traveling there (800k THB).

Obviously before doing that I would want to visit and make sure I actually like it there, but it certainly looks promising. Thought I'd ask on here if anyone has any experience there.

I am retired btw, but have no income at all, and won't till Social Security kicks in in a decade (if it is even still around). I did my research and I can still recieve social security from Thailand (and obviously it would go waaaaay further there).

I live currently on 1000 a month, and am hoping to eventually get a job online or another source of income. That much money in Thailand though would go way further (I rent a room here and spend $100 a week on food, have car insurance and a cell phone (both very cheap) and that is my total expenses each month).

In Thailand I could probably live at a really nice resort or rent an apartment, eat WAY better and still have money left over, so it might totally be worth moving there.

Anyway have experience traveling there? Any advice?

I do like brazillian steakhouses but they vary greatly in quality.

More importantly most heavily salt all their food (which prevents people from eating as much).

While you can get a varried doneness level, and ask them to cook yours more etc, it's not nearly as exact as going to a good steak house, or making your own.

Also the cheapest are usually about $50 at this point, so same problem as above, you can buy a good ribeye, really nice sized, for half that or less, and then cook it exactly how you want it.

Texas de Brazil is the only one near me now, but I have gone to pretty much all the chain ones and a few random ones, along with one on the cruise I went on last year. The cruise one was by far the worst I had gone to though.

Now mongolian BBQ......that is worth going to for me, especially if they have lamb. So freaking hard to find though sigh.

I mean, there are a few cool choices, but you could always kinda base yourself of Sir Smoofy of Awesometon (unforgotten realms).

Bard works as a base for that, and he liked to run around with nun-chucks even though he had no fighter levels. Toss in either sorcerer levels in that case (playing it more straight), or go with a dex based fighter build and actually use nun-chucks.

Fighters do not have to be strength based and there is no stat requirement in 5e. Many weapons are based on dex, use it to hit and damage.

If you have a low dex as well (and it doesn't have to be THAT high, fighters get bonus stats more often, so you could get dex or str even up over time if needed...just don't start with anything lower than 10 ifyou can help it).

Bard/sorc is actually a pretty powerful combination, but not really that thematic if your role playing a bard that is pretending to be a wizard. It would be more fun if you only had a few bard spells all together but used inventive ways to make it seem like you are a wizard, while actually being a totally different class.

IF you are going for that, and a humor factor as well, I would stick with classes that give you more room for roleplaying. Fighter/Barbarian/Ranger/Monk or especially rogue.

If you have the dex for it, rogue or fighter, combined with bard could really be a fun (and inventive) way to pretend to be a wizard. Rogue and fighter both have sub-classes that actually DO get wizard spells as well, so you could also roleplay into eventually gaining real spells if you wanted.

Rogue has a movement speed boost in combat, which you could "cast a spell" to get for instance. Perhaps you could also use a spell mid-combat to (cause extra wounds) to explain the sneak attack damage.

Anyway tons of options, I love making fun characters like that. I played a pacifist barbarian once that worked out really well.

Just buy your own steak and grill it. Heck, recently I have been perfecting the art of making a good steak on a cast iron skillet. I used to be a grill snob and turn my nose up on cooking a steak on a stove top, but I'm getting pretty close to having just as good of a steak that way to be honest.

There are safeway stores in Tampa, where you can actually get decent ribeye steaks for 7-12$ a pound (depending if it's on sale). You can upgrade a bit by finding a good butcher shop though i'm sure, might be a bit more expensive but you can have them cut the steak how you like it.

Season the steak or marinate it, and let it rest to get up to room temp at least 30 mins before cooking it. I spread a bit of oil on my steak at this point right before grilling it as well (instead of putting oil in the pan if i'm not using a grill).

Honestly 90% of steak places don't make a steak as well, or at least the way I like it done (varied ideas of what medium rare means for instance). The most expensive steak places do a good steak, but it's still about as good as I make it, but it's 4x or more then making it myself.

If you miss classic JRPG's, you owe it to yourself to give the first Xenoblade game (on the Wii, or Definitive Edition on the Switch) a proper try. X (the WiiU one), 2, and 3 (both on Switch) are all phenomenal games in their own rights, but the first one in particular really captures the feeling of playing older JRPG's, but translated into 3D. The battle system sometimes doesn't land for people that prefer turn-based systems, but the world design, exploration, and story format brings the genre into a 3D world in a way that a lot of other 3D RPG's don't quite hit.

Yeah I still have a Wii, and the original Xenoblade game on it, but they all play on the Wii U (just have to plug in the Wii controller and bar). I did play the first one a bit, but never got that far, and even though I've owned the second one since it came out, never played it on the Wii U. Also barely played the Wii U zelda game (cause it came out at the same time as another game that I liked better (the one with the robot dinosaurs and the girl with the bow). Ended up playing that instead of zelda much and never went back.

I still mean to go back and play the Xeno games, and if I did get a Switch it would be partially to play the third game (After playing the first two), but that gets less and less likely as my backlog of new, big RPG games gets longer and longer. There are a ton of games coming out this year I want to play already for instance. I still need to do even 1 full playful of Elden ring (though i've put over 40 hours into the game in multiple characters, I don't think I even got halfway done with any of em). Balders gate 3 is finally releasing around the corner now, Diablo 4 sounds/looks good and it out soon and a bunch of other really good stuff is coming out this year as well.

As I have gotten older I have more and more difficulty keeping up with games, especially RPGs, and so many good ones have gotten lost along the way. I own them, but never actually get to play them.

Part of my problem, and the reason I returned my switch when I bought it, is that I don't like playing it away from a big screen. Admittingly I only tried playing the super mario game on it (the 3d one that came out, odyssey) but it was so small on the portable screen it wasn't fun at all for me.

So I basically decided I would only get one if there were games worth it for me to play at home, and honestly there just hasn't been many that were not available on other systems (includding the Wii U).

Sadly I have never really enjoyed many of the Nintendo exlusives including the pokemon games, the Animal crossing games and the player vs player type games (Forget the name but you fight against each other as different nintendo chars like donkey kong and kirby etc).

Without them, it really limits the # of games, especially if you don't intend on using it as a portable system.

Add in the fact I have Wii U games galore I never played or finished (including the last Zelda game, the entire Xenosaga game on the Wii U and most of it on the Wii) and it just hasn't really been worth it to me.

I do have the Ps5 though and barely any games on it at all, but I at least figure eventually there will be some good exclusives on it, and it did have a new Ratchet and Clank right out of the gate for me.

Nintendo did seem to go away from a wide RPG library along time ago, which is really sad, and when you include all the PS and PC rpg games etc, it makes the few you can't play on nintendo not a big deal (at least to me).

This will be the first nintendo system that I have not owned, fairly close to when it was released, let alone at all, which is really sad.

I'm curious, can people list 10 switch exclusive games (I'll allow games out for the Wii U as well, even though I have one) that they feel are worth getting a switch for, and if so, what is the top 10 on their list?

I have almost bought a switch a few times, and did buy a switch when it came out (but returned it after I finished the new super mario game in a weekend and had nothing else coming out anytime soon I wanted to play).

A large part of that time they were really hard to get, but I could probably round one up now (especially if I was willing to get a used one). Still don't really see many games that I would want to play that I don't own on the Wii U already (Zelda/Xeno).

Almost got it when they made a new Marvel Ultimate alliance for it, but that was literally it for games for me even at that point. I'm not into pokemon which kills that, and I have enough games like Animal house or whatever it's called that it isn't really a draw for me either (That I don't even play even though I own them).

I know they came out with another Xeno, but I have not played the first one yet (think I own the second on Wii U as well...if there was one on Wii and one on Wii U I own 2 of em).

So yeah, still don't really see getting a switch as worth it sadly.

wolfy42

Most of the information is there if you look for it.

God created us in his image, only means that we are all a part of his consciousness, just separated and living individual lives (accumulating experiences from birth through death).

Heaven is defined as being with god, and hell not experiencing/being with god. In some ways our lives right now can be considered to be hell (we do not remember our other lives/experiences currently). When you die you become a part of the whole again, which is heaven.

Bad acts of course do indeed cause you to "go to hell" or experience hell, because you eventually live every other life, so when you do things that harm others, you eventually will experience that harm, hence you change a potential "heavenly" existence into a form of hell by doing bad things.

Aliens are not directly defined, which means they could exist on other planets, and in fact, it makes sense for that to be the case. God, initially, divided his consciousness among many many sentient creatures, and just the number on this planet would probably not be enough. Therefore it makes sense that other forms of intelligent life exist in the universe and that you can and will live their lives eventually as well.

So if looked at from that perspective, yes, there will be aliens in heaven, and in fact, you will be those aliens.

I had one light gun game that I loved. It was called Elemental Gearbolt and playing it was almost zen like. The music was part of it, but it had a high level of skill involved that focused your attention. There was a combo system that could work through the whole game, even through chapters.

I have been thinking about buying one of the $100-200 newfangled light guns that work with old ps2's on newer tvs so I can play it again. It's a ton just for one game, but I loved playing it so much and miss how calm it made me. Never found another game that made me feel the same way.

Watched a lets play yesterday of it and didn't realize how much I miss it. Also the lets play had someone playing with 2 light guns which is something I never tried. Dual wielding them would be kinda awesome, although you couldn't get as high of a score obviously.

So, break it down by your decades of life so far. Which would you prefer between the two. It's both really good sex, or really good pizza btw.

Age 1-10 Pizza easily, didn't care about sex at all.
Age 11-20 Really close but over the majority of the decade pizza would win.
Age 21-30 Sex won out during this decade, still close. For much of this I didn't have a regular sexual partner and it was my hornest years.

Age 31-40 Pizza wins again, still liked sex mind you, but good pizza was harder to find and sex was secondary to good food by that point.

41-50 Pizza by a long shot, sex barely an afterthought.

51-60 Don't even remember sex by this point but I still love Pizza.

Depends to be honest. If nobody got hit, and you can pass it off as it slipping from your grasp and you didn't mean to throw it, you might get away with it.

Even if you hit them, if you plan it in advance so it looks like an accident, you might at least not get in trouble with the law. Probably would still lose your job though.

Man, what a great episode. Now I'm kind of curious how the show deviated from the original story as far as those two characters go.

It was way different and way more negative. Spoilers ahead.

So I was totally not expecting it to go that way. At the start, I thought Frank was just pretending to be gay to get to stay there and that is how they were going to play it. In the game, Frank eventually kills himself and leaves a note saying he hated Bill the whole time. Bill basically doesn't want anything to do with anyone at all, and hides that he was gay (or tries), he and Elli argue alot etc.

Nick Offerman was great in this role and it's an interesting roll compared to his previous ones. The ending was honestly way better and it's one of the best uses of changing how a TV series goes vs a video game. It eventually has little to no effect on the over all story, while adding to it significantly.

Very good episode of 3 very good episodes, I am constantly impressed by the job they have done on this series and I wasn't even a big fan of the game.

Jesus those should be like the bottom of the barrel if even called mexican themed.

At least places like El Pollo loco are decent for fast food.

There are a decent number of La Hacienda's and they are pretty good as well.

Mazatlan is good but only in Washington (hasn't spread yet).

Most of the best places are not chains though.

I love this show but I find her to be by far the most insufferable character on it. Hard to believe anybody actually likes her. Even in all the flashbacks to when she was younger she's still the least likeable person on the show.

I should have mentioned she is INCREDIBLY love her or hate her, again more than any other character. You are not the only person who hates her, even more than Jamie.

I kinda get where you are coming from and can see both sides, but omg do my friends freaking love her lol. You'll see a ton of fanpeople on any facebook/other posts about the show as well.

I personally like Kacey the most over all, but I do like alot of the scenes with Beth in them (not sure if I straight out like her character as she seems selfish alot of the time and treats some people really bad). I do get that she is strong and stands up for herself and protects the ones she loves, but at the same time she just seems to make everyone's life more difficult.

No matter what, I do enjoy her scenes (and even most of Jamies thoug), and I like the show over all for sure. I also really enjoyed 1884. Holding off the the 1924 or whatever it's called (watched the first episode and was shocked HF was in it!!) until it's both fully out and we can watch it together (me and my friends that is). Those shows, to me, are way more fun watching with others lol.

TopicWhen's the last time you wore underwear?
wolfy42

So this is a complicated question lol.

I always wear underwear when I go out, but........I only go out maybe once every two weeks.

I tend to like to wear underwear in bed even so, but I don't always wear it in bed and I certainly don't wear underwear ....under...shorts (or my robe) when I'm just puttering around the house making tea/food etc (I live alone).

So sometimes I can go days without actually wearing any underwear because of that.

In summary, I tend to continue wearing underwear if I have them on and then get into bed, but I won't put them on if I get out of bed without them, and just toss on a robe etc. Because I go out so rarely (and therefore put underwear on to go out rarely) that means a majority of the time I don't wear them anymore.

I have a bunch of shorts I wear though (generally when I'm cooking something long term upstairs or someone might randomly come over while I'm up there), and 2 robes that I do wear when not in bed.

Anyway that is the riveting underwear story from wolfy.

I went with 6,9 of course.

No special powers but I still win.

Seeing inside any empty container could make you rich in theory, you can always tell which container/cup etc is empty in games of chance etc.

7 inch teleport could also be useful/capitalized on, especially if you could use it repeatedly (no recharge time). Could be used to teleport up in theory as well (or down I guess). Done rapidly you could fall from any height safely (not enough time actually falling to pick up speed), get to any height, travel over water etc.

I mean, alot will change if we can digitalize memories/transfer them and most importantly insert them into digitalized realities. We have VR already, but once we make it even more realistic, so you can't even tell the difference between real life and VR (other then you can fly/cast spells etc in VR), there will be literally infinite resources and no reason to hoard them, or restrict technology that makes everyone immortal.

We are actually not even that far away from making that happen, it could easily be done in the next 20 years.

It's hardly a hypothetical question though, because it's the one absolute certainty for all of us: it will happen to you at some point, no matter how long you manage to dodge it for. Every single one of us will, sooner or later, join that infinitely long line shuffling its way into eternal darkness. It's the absolute, inescapable inevitability of it that's terrifying: you have zero hope of avoiding it, it's impossible to bargain your way out of it, all you can do is to focus on the bit that happens before it and maybe try not thinking about it too much.

Sadly so many ways this could not be true.

For instance if a universe exists for every possible choice (Even the direction an atom travels etc), then there are countless copies of you that are living the exact same lives, there are also ones the at just a bit behind and ahead of you. If you die in this life, there are countless versions that didn't die in other universes, and your consciousness just continues in them.

Or tech advances to the point where we digitalize memories and can transfer them between bodies or even have them in digital created universe that both last forever AND proceed forward through time at a much slower rate (according to your consciousness), much like how dreams can seem to be hours/days long but last only a few moments.

Or the universe just exists in a constant loop and when you die in this loop, you just pop back up in the next loop reliving everything over and over again forever.

Or we are all just 1 person with segregated memories and every time you die you live as another person (so while you may not have the memories of this life, you will continue to live lives over and over forever with no way to stop the madness).

There are plenty of other theories/ways that we could basically never end up dead....hopefully none of them are true. Even many religions believe in afterlives though that are supposedly "eternal" and to me anything eternal sounds like hell.

Got the games from you and that is it. Honestly I have a huge backlog and no motivation to play games. Only gifts motivate me as I don't want to get a gift and not play it (so thanks, at least Iplayed something besides DDO lol).

I just.......it's pretty rediculous the backlog of AAA games I have let alone smaller games etc.

I own most of the big games of the last decade, but have played less than 5% of them (at all) and finished like 1% of them.

I parked my car for a year thinking I was locking it, and was only locking the drivers side door.

We all do dumb things, sometimes bad things happen because of it. Not much we can do but just deal with the consequences.

You are who you are, you make mistakes, we all do. Just focus on the good things as much as possible and when bad things happen, try to put them behind you as fast as possible, learn from them if possible first, but don't let it ruin your day/week/month or even your year:)
