My dad bounced right before I turned 3 so I don't remember him as a dad. I just remember him as the person who helped make me. Met him about once a year and he was usually good about child support AFAIK.

My mom raised me wholesale. She basically had to fill both roles of mom and dad, best she could. She wasn't perfect but she did about as well as one could expect, given what she had. She wasn't super strict but she was far from a pushover. She was big on "all actions have consequences, whatever they may be and you have to suffer the consequences of your actions instead of shirking them"

12/24/18 8:04:21 AM

Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein said Sunday that Republicans are coming to a "much greater consensus" that President Trump is unfit to be president following the resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis.

Bernstein, appearing on CNN's "Reliable Sources," said there is concern that Trump is "unfit on psychological grounds" as well as unfit "because of his contempt for the law" and because of his "conduct of foreign policy."

What the Mattis letter has done in a monumental way is to push Republicans into making some real judgments. Theyre talking to each other, there is coming to be a much greater consensus that he is unfit to be the President of the United States," Bernstein said.

Mattis resigned last week from his position as secretary of Defense following Trump's decision to remove U.S. troops from Syria. Mattis wrote in his resignation letter that Trump deserves "a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours."

He also expressed concern over Trump's views on traditional U.S. alliances.

"While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies," Mattis wrote in the letter.

"What the Mattis letter has done in a monumental way is to push Republicans into making some real judgments. Theyre talking to each other, there is coming to be a much greater consensus that he is unfit to be the President of the United States, @carlbernstein says of Trump.

correct, I understand this. But why can't that fair skin man wear a wakanda forever sweater? Why did forever 21 apologize? Who asked for the apology? or was it offered up on its own?

A white man can.

Using a white man in the advertising can be seen as tone deaf to the cultural impact Black Panther had on black culture.

They "apologized" to try to suppress any "controversy" surrounding it before it became bigger than it did.

It just comes across as potentially insensitive. Which can open its own can of worms on whether or not it should be insensitive but that's just the way it is for this

Black Panther basically became a key cornerstone in black culture so using the whitest guy you know can be seen, at best, as clueless and, at worst, offensive to black culture.

I forgot how awful Turian is.

there's literally no alternative to getting hit.

you're going to get hit.

the level and enemy design is in no way conducive to ensuring a way to not get hit. Not without focusing on everything but your main objective (the tubes and Mother Brain).

tbh it wouldn't even be half as bad/annoying if there was just like two less things on screen at any given time. One less loop shooter and one less wall shooter. but i guess throwing all the shit at the wall was acceptable back in 1986

For example, before I even got to the Mother Brain hallway, I opened a missile door, and in the process of finishing off the last Metroid in the room, a loop hits me, hits me again, knocks me through the door and, for good fucking measure, hit me twice more during the transition.

honestly, being able to stop in a lot of places and just farm up health makes it easier than games where you can't.... except for the fact it's hard to not just stop playing out of boredom.

I never completely finished the game as a kid (did kraid+ridley though) and the game just feels poorly designed in a lot of ways that really stick out in the face of newer games with a similar system. Reloading at full hp would have made the game a lot better without changing it that much

the enemies that spawn out of pipes, horizontal attack location depending on where you were really breaks the game in some parts.

you can either abuse it or you'll be finishing a jump and they'll be head height and hurt you but you can't attack them. and they move just fast enough that unless you're instantly morph balling upon touching the ground, you're getting hit.

It's a game where it'd take a lot of patience to do it damageless/very minimal amount of damage, if not straight up impossible.

Other notable things is stuff like the Kraid fight and Mother Brain fight just being a straight up mess of attacks.

I'm not gonna claim it's expertly designed but it's far from poorly designed. It's about the epitome of a 7 or 7.5/10 game is. Perfectly serviceable as is but has notable issues that could be fixed to make the game better. Fortunately they took all lessons learned from Metroid and refined them into a genre defining sequel with Super.

Ive played the original. It kinda sucks. I got the 100% under 2 hours ending in Zero Mission

It's frustrating how close to being right the original is, tbh.

Honestly you could easily fix it with:

Long Beam to start
Ship/Location to restore energy (you could only have one location for this and it'd be infinitely better than it currently is)
Enemies don't follow you through doors, killing your health/you. Also enemies that don't respawn when they're 15 pixels off screen
A smidge faster movement

tbh i don't even really think you need a map though it'd be nice, if a bit limited given the hardware.
