The commercial was way cooler than the game.

I also think a lot of people had issues with the ending, and the DLC.

This. It wasn't Bioshock 1 level good, but it was still a good gameplay experience. Ending was fine, although I can see why a lot of people didn't like it.

I thought the game was great. Loved the gameplay and the story.

Did not like the DLC. I liked seeing Rapture before the fall, but they sacrificed a good story for fan service.

The problem is Bioshock 1 set a very high bar.

Bioshock 2 kind of lived up that to that, but it was still a good game, but again Bioshock 1 was really high bar.

Infinite, completely removed from the first two bioshocks, was much more similar to a COD style shooter than Bioshock 1. Not a bad game by any means, but people wanted more of bioshock 1, not COD + Bioshock + a storyline that was basically "save damsel in distress because reasons"

2 was better in terms of gameplay for the most part. More streamlined.

1 beat it in story, writing, and atmosphere.

I really liked Infinite. Will admit the DLC left much to be desired.

Ugh, I hate when people put COD on everything by oversimplifying in their heads. Same with what people do to Dark Souls. Makes your opinion useless imo.

Edit: Doesn't help that he double downed by oversimplifying the story as well.

Fun game. The only thing I knock it for is the last few hours.

The gameplay starts strong and decimates and rips out all of my major issues with the first game.

Then the last few hours says "screw it, we have to cram in more plot because we forgot to balance the two throughout" and then the game just suffers a bit too much. Loved the story though. It did maintain the Bio 1 quality, imo.

For me, the two gun mass shooting style of the game just got really tedious. That's not my type of game, but I'll argue that the gun upgrade system does not mesh with the two-gun gameplay. The Vigors aren't nearly as interesting as the plasmids, most of them being variations of grenades or stuns (though I will admit Undertow was a personal favorite). The rail thing didn't really do anything for me and the melee system was too cinematic to really be built around.

And the story is mindblowing at first glance, but gets sillier the more you think about it. It only got sillier with the DLC.

For me, it's because:
1) bait & switch gameplay when compared with the trailers
2) can't fight Songbird
3) Booker & Comstock being the same person is stupid as hell
4) ending is like Matrix Reloaded where they just dump a whole load plot on you with not much time to digest it

I think it went over most ppls heads and they tried to defend that by claiming it was convoluted.

Plot holes and creating a cop out ending (that's made useless by the DLC anyway) to avoid wrapping up any of their million loose threads isn't convoluted. It's just shit writing.

I think one of the turnoffs is that Infinite is less about the world around it and far more about a small group of individuals involved.

Rapture and the concepts behind it were very much the focal point of the older games, whereas Columbia was simply the backdrop of the story of Booker and Elizabeth.

Learning that very little of the Columbia stuff actually matters in the finale can be quite a turnoff.

This, really. The story just felt like a bunch of stuff mashed together, and gameplay wise it was a whole lot of wandering around a city that felt empty and lifeless, and every once in awhile an enemy comes running straight towards you. Too many close quarters enemies for a fps

If the story of a game is about the protagonist's lingering guilt over the atrocities he's committed in the past, that game should not be an FPS where you mow down dozens of faceless bad guys a minute. The people who wrote the story had the ambition of creating something resembling actual art, but market forces demanded a game be built around that story that completely contradicts the story. It's just an unpleasant slog to actually play through, and not in the charmingly dated way something like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is.

infinite has none of the appeal of the original bioshock.

instead of an immersive sim it's a dumb corridor shooter with Call of Duty gameplay elements.as a result i never felt like you get to explore the world (which is the majority of the appeal of the main game) since you're just blasting from shootout to shootout. no puzzles, two weapons, powers are pointless, etc

dont ask me to recall the story now because i havent played the game in years but at the time i remember thinking it was an incomprehensible mess.i think it was one of those situations where the writers confused complication for depth.

Bioshock created the buzzword "immersive" into the gaming world like it's innovative or some shit. It's used by many people who have this crippling need to have video games trick their brain into thinking they're in some highly lucid dreamworld. I can play a game fine without forgetting I'm some meatbag sitting in front of a display screen, thanks. What I consider immersion breaking is a power outage, or a game breaking glitch, not some damn minor annoyance. Thankfully this term is rarely used anymore

I liked it, but the two weapon restriction did bother me a lot. I'm never bothered by a two weapon limit in any other FPS, but I think my issue with Infinite is that it wasn't similar enough to Bioshock. You're more free to experiment in the first Bioshock, and I guess that's really what I wanted out of Infinite as well. It's just not that type of game.

The game was not nearly as good in gameplay or story wise as BioShock 1 and 2.

The gameplay of BS:I was dumbed down and reduced, you had less you could do and the game was a pale shadow of the first BioShock but instead of the cool thought provoking ideas of Andrew Ryan we got christian religious bullshit.

BioShock 1 and 2 had something to say, and they said it very well, BS:I was just aping BioShock 1 but had none of the impact and was just stupid as fuck with the ideas it brought to the table.
