| ungubby 03/07/18 5:38:00 AM #1 | So I had a 2 year platonic relationship with this girl in college (i'm gay). she kind of pushed me to be a better human being by acting as an example of an awful one. She had a multitude of issues, mental primarily (ptsd, bipolar, alcohol and drug abuse). But despite all that we were buddies for about 2 years while we were in school. (though, she didn't graduate) Over the last 6 months that we were close, I started recognizing that her patterns of behavior were more than just self-destructive, they were actually destructive towards other people. Upon realizing this, I distanced myself from her gradually. Instead of ghosting her, I decided to get a job and over a long period of time became "too busy" to hang out. Eventually she moved away and I thought "cool, I'm in the clear". For some stupid reason we text each other, VERY infrequently (like, once a year if that). Recently I've been depressed, but that's not a new thing. I was unemployed for about a year after college and for some reason that feeling of desperation and uselessness has found a way to permanently attach itself to the chemicals in my brain that tell me all kinds of horrible things about myself. (lately) Okay so, that's an incredibly brief summary of everything. The advice part: she just sent me some shit on Facebook. . . and lowkey I'm thinking "I should just look at whatever she sent me and block her." but another part of me is thinking "Oh my goddd!!! My old buddy wants to see me! We should hang out and catch up!" Anyway, yeah I guess I'm wondering if I should embrace my cognitive dissonance in this matter or bravely ignore her bullshit and continue moving on with my life. Also the only reason I'm posting this on CE is because I'm drunk and hoping it will be deleted in a couple days and all my other friends I would normally seek advice from are asleep. Thanks --- |
