Yeah, Megadeth is good, but they're destined to remain wacky 80's metal. Loved by the hardcore fans, but also destined to be a forever sausage fest. There are plenty of these bands out there and that's fine. I don't revisit Megadeth near as often as Metallica. To each their own.

Mustaine didn't have that same gear that Hetfield hit going from 80's (or post Rust in Peace in the case of Dave) to Black/Load/ReLoad. That much is plain as day. If their earlier stuff is neck and neck, the mainstream phase of Metallica leaves Megadeth's in the dust. That's why this is an easy pick for me.

Now I know it's a bit silly to compare rhythm versus lead, but in no way is Mustaine a better lyricist or writer. He never grew out of his style with the success or cross over quality that Hetfield did.

Hetfield is far and away better than Mustaine at everything but solos.

That was neat at the end of Return of the Jedi, the Vietnam allegory.

Metallica because they have greater underground stuff and they crossed over to mainstream more successfully than anyone in metal history. Megadeth has little mainstream success outside of Countdown to Extinction and a couple select songs. They're more one note compared to Metallica.

Also let's face it, only 1 Hetfield exists in the world. That alone is the trump card.

Stadium and Snap had more attention and fame. By the time those later ones rolled around, a lot of the core Pokmon fanbase was playing XBox or PS2. The GC was just not in the conversation as time went by during its cycle.

Nintendo outsold Xbox during the 2001 Christmas season, but they lost the 2nd place lead once things settled in for the long run.

Certainly not the only reason, but as a whole, Nintendo never had a game on that level of importance in this gen.

GCN had some great and well received games in the online nerd crowd. But PS2 and XBox was getting crossover attention. The tidal wave of GTA 3, VC, SA, and Halo 2 was earth shattering. Nintendo offered nothing that gained traction outside of its dedicated fanbase.

In my experience and memory, the GC simply wasn't as cool at the time.

It was generally considered to be a disappointment back when it was current. Most of the sequels to the N64's heavy hitters were weaker than their predecessors (Double Dash wasn't as good as MK64, Super Mario Sunshine wasn't as good as Super Mario 64, Wind Waker wasn't as good as Ocarina of Time, Star Fox Assault wasn't as good as Star Fox 64, etc.) It also missed out on a lot of the multiplatform titles that were on Xbox and PS2 due to the C-Stick being a terrible right-analog and the controller not having as many buttons as the other two consoles. It only had 2 games that supported online play, both from the same series, and you had to buy a modem and a weird-looking keyboard controller in order to play them. It just didn't have enough good games to keep players satisfied. Melee has not left GameFAQs' Top 10 Message Boards for Gamecube ever since it came out despite being a release title, mainly because there weren't enough big releases to dethrone it

One tiny caveat, Melee was not a release game. To my memory it came out early December. But the rest is pretty much right.

It came out hot out of the gate and outsold X-Box during that initial Christmas season. Once the word of mouth about Halo started gaining ground, they turned the tables on Nintendo. By the time Halo 2 came out, that game was a genuine phenomenon off the bat. No GC game had that sort of hype.
