It's ok. It stumbles quite a bit but also has some sick moments. It's just a flawed movie in a long line of flawed movies. Nothing will come close to the first 2. Not as long as they keep chasing the nostalgia and the Skywalkers.

The backlash is overblown and hilarious because it has caused people to double down on liking that garbage known as the prequels. It makes for good theater.

Perhaps, but on the other hand when you host Milo and Gavin on your podcast and your fans rush to the defense of Million Dollar Extreme, you then can't get all pissy and plead ignorance when you begin to have that association. "Lie with dogs and you'll wake up with fleas" and all that shit

I have no idea who Million Dollar Extreme is or any clue what he did.

But if there's a Legion of Skanks show that happens to have a controversial person on, I'm listening for the funny. I'm not there to get new ideas. The appeal of the show is that anything may happen. A Milo appearance does not discredit a hilarious appearance by Dan Soder or Michael Che or Ari Shaffir or etc. Heck, even Milo had some funny moments and I could not care less for that moron.

Of course, you'll get the fringe crazies on Reddit who traffic in this world (alt right) who earnestly believe in it. The one drawback of podcasts is that the media can choose to write about the shows and the fans and they use a fringe minority to represent what the show is about.

My last thought in this message: I just want an environment where anything can be said on a podcast. I don't welcome or agree with everything said. But funny can come from that dangerous place.

On the topic of comedy and censorship and yada yada, here's more disinformation, this time from the Hollywood Reporter:

https://rb.gy/8b2705

Likening an offensive comedy festival's inaugural year to the rise of Trump that very same year. This isn't a thing that would have picked up momentum on its own regardless of who was running for President. Riiiiiight.

Regardless of the actual finances it's absolutely insane to act as if he's being persecuted or as if it's anywhere close to Carlin's arrest.

Random people writing random articles for random sites aren't the end all be all in society.

Yeah I can see that. The hate for Chappelle is only driven by a couple reviewers / bloggers / journalists. Same with the whole SNL thing and the attack against dirty comedy on uncensored platforms. It's almost nothing.

Pretty much every comedian of note is on Dave's side. That's what matters. The respect of peers means more than a blogger in Brooklyn. George is one of those guys who paved the way for the whole comedy profession. And Dave is one of the torchholders for the profession today.

Dave Chappelle is all the proof I need George Carlin would still be vilified, despite any clips someone wants to show me of having what we already knew was very liberal views.

He wasn't 100%. That's what made him an evil monster /s.

If Chappelle was that revered and people (ahem, bloggers) turned that quick, Carlin would have had no chance. He always felt like a niche guy. Chappelle is a pop culture deity or close to it.

Or maybe the other angle is that no one would have cared. He never had the pop culture peak that Chappelle had. Even though he had like 14 HBO specials. If you're not that big to begin with, there also isn't as much to take away.

Amy Schumer was good. I haven't seen her last 2 specials but I saw the 3rd last one and have also seen her live. I enjoyed most of her sketch show. She had good writers and she took care of fellow comics by putting them in her sketches. Her appearance on the Charlie Sheen Roast put her on the map and was really good. Same with Patrice O'Neal who died shortly after.

People got on her case when she starting blowing up and had a movie career. Then came the joke stealing accusations and her Hilary endorsements. That was it for some people. I thought the joke stealing was a bit far fetched. If I recall, they were "street jokes".

I mean....you cam still pick one up for 20 on garage sales and facebook.

The machine is cheaper than the high profile games. Some games are monstrous in price if you go through a video game store. Smash Bros Melee is 100+ if you're in a big city with a retro game store. The Zelda games are 50 or 60+. I am basing these prices on what I saw in Toronto a while back. The markup there is probably pretty high there compared to small cities.

You painting it as being strictly about politics is disingenuous

It seems like a pretty good article tbh as could probably be inferred from the TC criticising it.

All one needs to do is look where the good comedians and prominent voices are lining up on this issue. I see Joe Rogan et al on one side and losers (establishment comedy) on the other side.

No one is holding Michael Che or others hostage. Why does he continually appear on Jay's podcast? Does he need exposure to a niche audience of 10's of thousands (possibly 100's)? Does he just like the people? Does he need promotion from a podcast when he appears on SNL in front of a million+?

Like seriously.

And yet he was very close to the late great Patrice O'Neal, and Kevin Hart was one of the guys he originally came up with in Philadelphia ~20 years ago, and Kevin Hart did a surprise appearance at Big Jay's show last summer in Montreal, and he's tight with Michael Che from SNL, and people of diverse backgrounds always appear on the show.

And those jokes were done in the context of "a black baby doing Def Jam Comedy". Which is funny. And if it isn't, don't watch.

https://slate.com/comments/culture/2019/09/shane-gillis-snl-conservative-comedy-legion-of-skanks.html

In a nutshell, a few funny things I learned:

-If your comedy doesn't fit the mainstream, you are a conservative comic.

-The comedy club scene is a dangerous underbelly of conservatism and old boys networks.

-The picture they use in the article is comedian/podcaster and one of the funniest human beings alive, Big Jay Oakerson, a guy who never discusses politics. A socially liberal guy.

-I love that the poster boys of this article are 2/3's apolitical. Out of the 3 Legion of Skanks podcast members, only Dave Smith is political and he's a libertarian, which of course is some sort of red flag these days, amirite.

-Dave Chappelle, Michael Che, Louis CK, and others continue to be problematic. The podcast scene in NYC is a conservative bastion of the dreaded R word.

Genius blogging by Slate.

A transfer is basically a fee that is paid to buy the rights of the player. I think the deal comes complete with a contract and a money term obviously. The buying team has to meet the price of the player that the selling team has set. For average players, it might be single digit millions. Good guys will be double digits. Stars are 3 digit territory or high double digits. Again, this is a rough guideline. And there is inflation.

If you were crazy and tried to pony up money to buy Lionel Messi off of Barcelona like ~6 or 7 years ago, I couldn't imagine how many hundreds of millions it would have cost. You're talking like 500 million US territory. Cristiano Ronaldo in his early 30's was worth 112 million Euro for Juventus to buy him from Real Madrid. And that's one of the best players alive at the tail end of his prime.

The record transfer fee was Paris Saint-Germain getting Neymar from Barcelona for 222 million Euro.

That movie blows. One way I love to illustrate how garbage it is, and I've seen no one else bring it up:

They fly from Westchester NY to the province of Alberta in western Canada, in a helicopter, in seemingly 5 seconds, just to shoehorn a couple minutes of a Weapon X reference (the project where Wolverine was experimented on and given his adamantium skeleton and claws). So Cyclops, Jean, and Nightcrawler just stayed in the back of a helicopter, on a several thousand mile journey, with no one noticing, without taking time to refuel? Also keep in mind that the helicopter was equipped to nullify their mutant powers. Did they have something to eat?

What in the name of f*** is going on. Did these hack filmmakers think they were going to hoodwink me?!
