I don't have any strong feelings about Elon Musk himself, it's the lameass fan following he has that eats up every throwaway comment he makes like its the most profound thought humanity has ever had the privilege to record.

Reporter: Hey Elon, what do you think about the universe?
Elon: Well it's big I guess. I mean it would take a long term to travel across it, ha ha
Reddit /r/futurology: Elon Musk says universe is of indeterminate size but humanity capable of time travel

Jokes aside this tactic really works.

I remember dogsitting for my friend's dog. She kept telling me it would never work because "princess" (her ferocious shitzu) hates men and people in general.

And yeah, the dog did hate me at first, but a couple of schmakos and 5 minutes later we were old friends.

Most people won't say it outright but you can bet that for a lot of people if the pets don't like you they'll feel a certain level of apprehension towards you too. Most pet owners seem to believe their pets have a special gift when it comes to judging character.

Basically long story short, this instagram fitness model posted a fake video of her doing a wallsit with 900lbs sitting on her knees for like a full minute. She makes it look easy. There's another picture with another fitness model standing on top of it, so I guess add another 110lbs or whatever.

So basically anyone who has even worked out for like 5 minutes knows this is stupidly fake. Like I'd be impressed if Brian Shaw managed to do that for 10 seconds. A 5ft6 instagram model, planking 900lbs? Just fuck off.

So some guy called her out on it, and here's where it gets weird - she decided to show up at that guy's location and prove she could do it. Obviously she couldn't. Like after 3 attempts she failed miserably. Of course she did.

So I don't get why she showed up there, 1) because she obviously couldn't do it, because she's human, and 2) what the fuck was she trying to prove? She made herself look extremely stupid and the sad thing is she's already clearly a beast. It'd be like a very very strong man showing he can lift a Ford with his pinky, like nobody is going to look at that and be all "wow that's amazing you're an inspiration".

Fatas - an original term invented by pinky0926 to describe trashy tapas, where all the foodstuffs come from various fast food places and are in no way conducive to health.

So we had Pizza Hut, Fried Wings (3 different types), Homemade nachos, pecan praline ice cream, subway cookies, strawberry whipped cream scones, cheese and chips from across the road and a 6 pack of beer each.

Did I make this topic already? I feel I did. But I neglected use of the term Fatas so there you go. Try it sometime. Requires trees.

What I have encountered though was a chef who rolled his eyes when I brought this up because so many guys (and usually only guys) are in a hurry to ruin a perfectly delicious meal in the effort to make it so spicy you can't taste anything else. How is it lagers became so ubiquitous? As far as I can make out (at least at a domestic level), they're one of the most difficult and time costly beers to make. Is it because at a commercial level controlling temp is easy and the ingredients are cheap for this kind of beer?

I'm trying to work this out because when I make homebrew lager is absolutely the last option because it's never the most interesting AND it's one of the most difficult to make even slightly pallatable.

lagers are cheap to make

yes they take longer to brew/ferment but as far as the material cost goes they are the the cheapest beer

She's from Hawick, one of these small insular little towns in the borders that had somehow remained largely unchanged for centuries.

She says everything so strangely. For examples, "glasses" is pronounced "glay-sees". "Do" as in "do something" is "dae", so "gonnae dae it". But added confusion because "dae ken" also means "don't think so
".

Long story short she could say a sentence like "ah had a pure barry taem doon spoons las sa'day, but ah dae keen weir mah glaysees fae seen to" and it would mean "I had a great time at the pub last Saturday but I lost my glasses and I've no idea where they've gone".

Well couple of things -

1. How often does she stay over? Do you at least have an idea of what it's like to have her stay the night and go through her daily routine?

2. Even if it works out cheaper in terms of bills and contributions, I can't say it feels that way. Depending on what kind of person she is, you may end up pressured to spend more money on activities. I feel like most guys can just happily sit in their underpants with a beer and do very little, but nothing upsets women more than seeing this. If she's remotely normal she'll be wanting to go out and do shit like every weekend.

There's also the shitload of heating and energy women seem to use for everything.

On story vs gameplay -

I think a balance is needed. If a game is all gameplay but no story - e.g. Kingdoms of Amalur, you failed to get dragged in and immersed in the game at all. It had terrific combat but there's only so many "go find my magic ring" fetch quests for NPCs that all look exactly alike you can do before it's really dull.

On the other hand too much story and not enough gameplay is a trap a lot of games fall into and creates a frustrating "just let me fucking play already" experience. How I felt about most MGS games.

I think more than just the story it has to be an immersive, engaging experience. I think that's what made Skyrim so gripping. It wasn't an original story by any means but it did an immense job of dropping you into it and making a cinematic experience you actually got to play rather than simply watch.

I used FFX as an example because despite being perhaps the most perfectly balanced RPG I've ever played it still runs into this issue of having to choose and feeling slightly strongarmed into giving everyone a shot, i.e. the problem is fundamental and not something you can escape even with very good game design.

Maybe it's just me. I'm that guy that hordes items I'll never use and feels like everyone has to level up their EXP otherwise I'm not playing the game properly.

I think a lot of it is a weird sort of nerd identity thing going on.

I dislike Apple as a company and I don't want to give them any more money, but I have to admit Macs are simply better in a number of ways that makes them a dealmaker for most people, if they can afford it.

I'm a PC guy, but you spend so much goddamn time customizing and fixing and patching your PC. Yes, you get more hardware for less money, and you get more freedom to use the product as you see fit, but on the other hand, it's a constant battle with bugs and issues and unpredictability.

In all the time I've used macs (mainly for work, or other people's) I've never really ran into any major issues beyond trying to relearn the UI. You turn it on and it boots up instantly and everything runs predictably and quickly. It's a setpiece.

I see the appeal but I balk at the pricetag and the lack of game support. And also the general cultiness of it all.

pinky0926
02/04/18 6:54:19 AM

I'm sort of a hybrid and have done both, so certain things amuse me about both city folk and town/country folk.

City Folk tend to have better things to talk about, but they never want to talk to you and everyone sort of lives in a default state of suspicion and weariness. But there is at least a sense that people are doing things with their lives and you can go out and see interesting stuff at any time.

Country folk tell you the same shit stories every day in the pub, but at least everyone is friendly and willing to help out with small things. For example, I mentioned to a guy that worked at the butchers that I was going to put together some pulled pork sliders and the next day he just turned up at my doorstep with a 4lb bone-in pork shoulder. That never happens in the city.

There was an anecdote on QI that explains the difference perfectly. A guy and his city friend were doing a roadtrip around the UK and stopped off at Hadrians wall (country area). They passed someone else at the location and the country guy (the one telling the story here) said "hello" and the stranger said hello back. Then after they walked away city guy asks "did you know that guy?"

Overall I prefer the city but there are some things I certainly miss. Space, and peace, and a sense of familiarity and belonging is all very much a town thing.

Say a game that gives you 8 people to switch out in a 3 person team. And only 6 of those are good choices, and of those 6 at least 3 of them are redundant because the other 3 are better. But then you feel like you have to keep using them all anyway to keep their levels up. And towards the end when you have all of those characters inevitably you just start shunting the ones you don't like as much to the side and forgetting about them.

FFX is an example where you felt compelled to make sure everyone got a turn but really there were only like 3-4 people you consistently used. Xenoblade Chronicles was an example where you just straight up forgot about 3 of the characters.

I'm not sure it's a good mechanic. I think I'd just prefer 3 permanent characters that can have more variety to their build choices.

Thoughts?
