This is what I love about Nintendo. They might not always make the most original content, but what they produce is some of the most finely crafted stuff on the market. Compare this to the launch state of any Bethesda game and it should be obvious why, after all these years, Nintendo is still in the game.

Seriously imagine Skyrim with combat like this.

Or really just Skyrim with combat beyond strafe and hit.

Everyone is giving TC a hard time but he has a point.

If you're in a bad mood it's not anyone else's problem, and you especially shouldn't put it on other people when there's an observable reason for your bad mood that is entirely of your own doing. Nobody else should have to put up with your hormonal mood swings.

Yeah, I get hangry too, but there's also a part of me that says "this isn't anyone else's fault so stop being snarky at them for no reason".

Don't necessarily disagree with any of this stuff. This steak is pretty hard to cook since it goes from raw to well done faster than it takes me to put it in the pan. I've come to the conclusion that I don't think this type of steak is good for an oven at all. If I ever buy it again, I would likely use it to make meat sauce with it.

Or maybe schnitzel.

I henestly reckon it would be good if you breaded it. Just like 2 minutes each side if that.

Can't remember off the top of my head it was a pack of 8 steaks for $18. They were super thin so have to eat two at a time. They're like pancakes made out of beef. I made two right away and then marinaded the other 6.

Hard to tell when it's that thin, could be chuck or round maybe.

Additionally the chili marinade didn't work at all. Tastes fine but also tastes like I just cooked it plain and added sauce after the fact.

Maybe next time add salt into the marinade to help the marinade permeate into the juice better. Sugar also works quite well. Or beat the meat with a mallet. Heh, beat the meat.

If you intended to tenderise the meat, something acidic would really help. Pineapple is ideal for this.

I baked them in an oven at 400 degrees for about 8 minutes on a cast iron pan. I've done this a lot with pork and tried to replicate my success with beef but it didn't work out quite the same. I'm going to try different cuts next time.

The grey color is because the juice collected in the pan to give a kind of boiled look.

You clearly don't understand.

Trump tells it like it is, except for when he doesn't - that's just him fooling around. He says what we're all thinking, except for the times when he says something outrageous, then he's just being boisterous. He means what he says and says what he means, except for when he's just kidding or getting his words confused.

So in summary Trump says exactly what he's thinking but also doesn't, and each time it's everyone else in the world who has to be responsible for the things he says and work out whatever it's supposed to mean. Trump is the straight talking guy who's words are powerful but also the class clown who talks a lot of shit most of the time.

In short, haha take that liberals.

If you're a good customer dealing with a bad customer rep you can't count on their work ethic and sense of responsibility to handle your problem. What you can reliably count on is putting a red hot poker up their ass to get them off their seat to actively help you.

Your average receptionist/hospitality staff is not exactly living for the job. They're there to pass the time and make money until they find something better.

People who work in customer service always say this but they don't really mean it. Not really.

The amount of times in my life I was incredibly nice and understanding to some hospitality service staff or a receptionist or whoever was on the phone - simply because I could empathise with their life and how I'm infringing on it - and subsequently been treated as a low priority task is too often to bear accounting for. These people just want to move the post-it off their desk into the trash and deal with as little hassle as possible throughout the day.

Even just a change in tone from "I don't suppose you could help me?" to "I need this to happen because I've already asked before and nothing has happened at all" changes the entire speed from a lazy "I'll get to it if I'm in a good mood with nothing to do" to "holy shit I could get fired if I don't actually do my job".

The above is different from being outright rude. Screaming at someone doesn't work, because it gives the person ammunition to shut you down regardless of the grievance. But honestly, I think the shadow of a threat is the most valuable tool I ever learned in the corporate world for dealing with people who just don't really want to be made to do work, which is most people.

It's just one little blip under the education section. It's not supposed to be the focal point of why you should hire me, but rather just a little asterisk that might get you to do a double-take.

Given the hundreds of resumes people see on a daily basis, a double-take is far more preferable than the lazy-eyed gloss-over

But what does it add? Don't think that "eye-catching" is necessarily a desirable trait if eye-catching is potentially obnoxious.

I say death ribs not because they're insanely spicy (they're still quite spicy) but because of the sheer volume of fucking sugar in the recipe. See italics below:

https://carlsbadcravings.com/slow-cooker-honey-buffalo-ribs/

Honey Buffalo Sauce
3/4 cup Franks buffalo wings sauce
1/2 cup honey
3/4 cup apricot preserves
1 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch

Spice Rub
1 1/2 tablespoons paprika
1 1/2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
2 tsp EACH chili powder, garlic powder, salt
1 tsp EACH ground cumin, onion powder, pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

The fuck? I might die

I mean the entire point of automation in the first place is that a single machine can do the work of a much larger group of people, so it's not like there's a 1:1 job replacement thing even if you assumed the skills are transferable.

I look at my office and half the people there could be replaced with better accounting software and a printer.

I have a soft spot for corny 80s action hero archetypes, and also feel the gender dynamics are at least pretty consistent with greek mythology.

All up it was a silly game with silly themes. Now this new one is a serious game with silly themes pretending that they're serious themes, and it's probably going to half-ass it trying. If you want to establish a ridiculous character like Kratos and then try to rewrite that character with a more serious gritty tone you better do an A+ job of it.

I'm not ruling it out. Logan worked, right? But I just don't have high hopes for God of War here. It feels less like an honest attempt to bring some class to the series and more like a cheap marketing grab.

That's an idiotic hot take for two reasons:

1) Crocodile Dundee wasn't homophobic, as it was expressing what was essentially the mainstream opinion back in the 1980s and 1990s. That was a time when "gay" was an insult used by everybody and transgendered people were the butt of jokes or shocking plot twists. If you want to make the case that the 80's and 90's were more trans/homophobic than the current day, you absolutely can make that argument and even point to individual scenes in movies as proof of that. But to take a piece of comedy from that time period and to use our current standards to judge it out of all societal context is just a waste of space.

2) And if you are well-intentioned, you should point to movies like Crocodile Dundee and Ace Ventura as proof for how far we've come as a society in just a few decades. Back when those movies were released, transgendered people could be used as a punchline just because without anyone batting an eye. Nowadays, mocking someone solely for being transgendered would essentially get you booed to oblivion outside of the deep south and a GOP convention.

i really avoid adding salt and sugar to food

but then im worried that if im ever cooking for others, theyre gonna find it bland

Why avoid salt though, do you just dislike it? I'm pretty sure the salt scare was debunked.

Makes pretty much anything more yummy and shiny, at the cost of being really bad for you

Even goddamn pasta is improved with a half spoon of sugar. Maybe I'm just addicted to sugar.

And if you haven't had write ups before they'll suddenly start handing them out like free candy. 5 minutes late today? Write up. Didn't finish that impossible task with 20 minutes notice? Write up.

Finally, if they suddenly take a keen interest in having all of your processes and access shared with somebody else.

Usually

Lots of conspiratorial HR meetings with everyone conspicuously avoiding talking to you. Lots of email requests in incredibly formal tones asking for more details on such and such. Especially bad if there's a meeting with senior management and while they're in the meeting they start blasting you with formally toned questions.

That's an office job though. What's your situation?

Now we need to hear both versions on top of each other and see if it harmonises at all.

Honestly, I don't disagree with you about needing a firearm in the courtroom. The followup question then becomes "is it ultimately safer?". We can speculate here all we want, but we would really need to get our hands on a shitload of actual data involving outbursts and escalations during hearings/in courtrooms.

It feels like the most responsible way to look at everything is on a risk vs. benefit scale. What are the risks involved with no armed officers, the benefits? What's the incidence of escalations with and without armed guards? And a whole bunch of other outcomes we could name.

I'm running off the assumption that some stats monkey who consults with the criminal justice system ran the data and came to some statistically relevant backing for having armed guards, but I honestly don't know.

(I'll reply to just this before bed because you took the time)

This is basically where I'm at. I can acknowledge that throwing around "here's how I'd do it differently" is pretty asinine if it's just going by the end result of one case as told by a short news editorial. It's hardly big data, or even an informed decision.

I will also say that just because it's the way it's done doesn't mean it's necessarily the best way to do it, also. Plenty of courts around the world get by without armed guards escorting prisoners. It seems to me partly a cultural thing and not simply a self-defense thing.

But I'll go with what shockthemonkey said in #272 - if criminals taking guns off cops is a legitimate concern, surely we shouldn't be putting them within arms reach of criminals? If there's a need for armed police in a court room, maybe they shouldn't be anywhere near the suspect.
