I think the AI part of it is getting some weird emphasis, probably because there's just a lot of general anti-AI sentiment around nowadays. It's not like having the advertisement posters made by a human would have helped the event itself be any better

"never" is a strong word, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't ever use one, at least. I'm perfectly aware of plenty of horny games and/or games that already have nudity in them without mods, I can't really see myself caring enough about adding nudity to a different game to bother fiddling with mods for it

Just speaking personally, I am definitely able to count the engines but until reading this post I never would have known this was a difference between the two

I think a game like Mario Odyssey is just really fun to goof around and do nothing in for an hour just fiddling around with jumps and speed tech.

I've definitely started up mario64 just to aimlessly run around styling in various levels for a bit and then shut off the game without even getting a single star

I think it can work okay in some games but a lot of games that use it don't really think about the consequeces and it sort of sucks. like hollow knight for example. it's a giant metroidvania where a significant appeal of the game is just exploring the world and seeing what things you find. but if you die, now suddenly you are forced to retrace your steps and go back to the exact same place you already were. it totally ruins your ability to just explore

Kart racers is close if not for Mario Kart 8 being a monster of a hit (whereas the only other major one is Nicktoons, which came out six years ago).

I don't think I'd eat it very often at all since I mostly don't like fast food in the first place but it's at least a little more useful to me than the gym membership is

multiple close members of my extended family own significant amounts of (admittedly sorta low-quality) farmland. part of me thinks it would be nice to try and get to them somehow, and that would probably be one of the best overall things I could do... but it's winter and most methods of transportation are gon and they're too far to walk in a day. so I don't really know how I'd actually make that happen

On the subject of sci-fi, most of the early stuff never predicted the computer. You got all kinds of weird shit like laser guns and so on but when they had to chart a path through space, they busted out good ol' pencil & paper & nautical navigation tools.

my favourite variant of this is the settings where one of the most important roles for spaceflight is some kind of supergenius polymath where their brain is basically a giant calculator/computer that does math 1000x faster than the average person

I'm thinking about games that would have had a disk, but also significant online play. That started the change in human behaviour from solo/domestic gaming to interacting worldwide.

oh in that case I think the only real option in that category is world of warcraft

a lot of the big online games, and definitely the mobile games, don't have any physical form. I'd have a hard time imagining them lasting 50 years let alone 1000

Sci-fi and futuristic settings still want to ignore the internet, messaging and social media being a thing. People will talk via holograms and video calls or leave voice and text memos behind. The internet doesn't exist. Mobile phones don't exist. It's more likely that there's a futuristic version of a newspaper.

I think some of this is that it's hard to create proper dramatic tension when there is very free flow of information. A significant number of stories revolve around things like:

• some characters knowing things but not everyone
• characters being unable to find each other
• characters having incomplete information about the world

even settings where tech and internet is a pretty big thing, I find often the intense / crisis moments have to come up with some reason for the communication lines to be jammed or otherwise nonfunctional

the original metroid is nigh-unplayable: the maps suck, the controls suck, the password system sucks, respawning at 30 hp out of 600 and having to farm enemies for 10 minutes before doing anything sucks

meanwhile super metroid still holds up in quality to this day

I think there's a limit to how many bots can be allowed on social media. Advertisers don't want to be seen by bots, they want to be seen by people who might spend money on them.

wasn't this one of the big fusses that happened when elon bought twitter? how the popularity of the site had been greatly overstated because a significant number of the "users" were actually just bots?

As weird as it probably sounds to say, this is kinda a backwards assumption. the text generation bots are trained on extremely massive amounts of english text, and are very very good at outputting correct english text. the place they might struggle is not the quality of the english and grammar, but rather the coherency of the text and its ideas, especially if the text is long-ish

it's more than just that, really. it's the general idea that a significant amount of the content on the internet is generated by bots, and a significant amount of the activity of (seemingly) humans is also bots. I'm also willing to stretch the theory a little and include obviously fake spam media profiles as "bots" in this case (like when you have one guy simultaneously being 100 different people and posting like they're bots, but there's actually a real human behind it)

comment sections on anything popular that don't have good antibot measures in them somehow are like, useless

all i got is magic the gathering. and yea i obviously didnt impart the knowledge of certain cards unto myself, but i consider organic exposure way diff from net-decking or metagaming

yeah I can definitely see where you're coming from, especially since I personally am probably a lot like you. my favourite part of MtG is looking for weird interactions and trying to build functional yet unusual decks.

but there's other people who find the fun part to be the thrill of playing, of knowing they're truly at 100% and so are all their opponents and no one's really holding back in any way. And you can't even exist in that environment without doing the preparation beforehand, and part of that preparation is realizing that the popular netdecks are popular for a reason. It's just a different sphere of enjoyment

Think of anything you do in your life, that you enjoy, that's not videogame related. Did you learn every single thing you know about it by just blindly experimenting? Or did you read stuff about it online, learn from friends or a teacher, etc?

Some people have that attitude but enjoy it. I don't think it's so weird to enjoy playing games at the top level, of really trying to win with everything available to you, etc etc

I do think it's weird that some people do this sort of thing even though they don't like it, and not only that but they don't even realize that's what's making them dislike the game. But it's sort of general knowledge that players will optimize the fun out of any game when given the chance and devs definitely have to put in a certain amount of effort to protect players from themselves

I think the metagaming stuff is just inevitable with any competitive multiplayer game, considering the way the internet works nowadays and how quickly information can spread across all interested parties. Even if they don't require weird engine edge-cases, when it comes down to it your intuition will just never compare to the intuition, playing, and focused research of hundreds or even thousands of serious players.

I think it's cool that it exists but I wouldn't want too many other moves like it. It's nice as a niche and unique typing chart break but I think it would just lead to chaos and also just be not nearly as interesting if the effect was common on all sorts of attacks

The only really major missables imo are the ultimate weapons (forget their names) in the late portion of the game that you need to find all of to fight the true final boss

rest of the stuff is only "major" if you're a nerd who can't accept that sometimes you just don't see literally every piece of content in a game

Yeah the acts don't come with a big chapter heading or anything but I think it's pretty obvious considering the flow of events, and also that each act has different BGM for generic fights (the bgm change points line up pretty cleanly with the story arcs)

this was common in my elementary school, not just me but a lot of other kids I know also did it.

personally I'd always use half the seasoning packet, adding the whole thing was just too much. and then you put them in a bag so you can crush them without making a mess

considering the usual rate of adaptation of anything new here, gfaqs might learn what AI is sometime in 2050

I think the weird 3-act structure is mostly to blame, the acts are all related to some extent but at times it's hard to see how they connect and especially the 3rd act feels very out of place after the way the 2nd act ends
