It looks like they might have had some genuine ambition here, it's just a little too much effort to be written off entirely as a scam... but at some point I imagine they were like "I think we oversold this thing..." but it was too late and people needed to get paid so they pressed on and hoped it would blow over since kids are weird and parents don't care as long as the kid is happy and behaving?
