Secret final screen became a lot easier when I realized I could diagonal-dash-cancel instead of up-dash-cancel to the spot where you throw the jellyfish on the vertical springs and it works 100% of the time instead of like 25% of the time.

Kinda feel silly about that now.

I can now confirm what I previously suspected, the last screen of Ch 9 isn't all that hard when you've beaten it once and your nerves are no longer shot.

(Which is not to say that Ch 9 doesn't get insanely hard, because it certainly does.)

Just got through Ch 9 in 2912 deaths. Loved it! Then I find out there's a secret Berry at the very end. Of course.

(I replayed the original A and B sides first just to re-acclimate to the game, otherwise I'm sure it would have been way worse.)

Part of the awkwardness in Clint's interactions is that Emily wasn't initially dateable and they didn't change his interactions whatsoever when she became dateable.

While he may be pathetic, he doesn't blame anyone else for his shortcomings but himself as opposed to a self-proclaimed "incel".

Of course none of that really makes him better enough to be better than almost anyone else. Pam is a much better written "terrible" character. Morris is basically as much of a straight villain as the game gets. Most everyone else is just obviously better.

exactly

so why did Irvine choke? because he remembers who Edea is

Okay, your point definitely makes more sense that way. Still, I'll have to take your word on it that they never said Edea's name up until that point. I certainly don't remember her identity (as Edea) being withheld that long, but maybe I just knew it from cards or something.

LeonhartFour posted...
They don't learn Edea's name until they've already begun the mission, so at that point, it's a bit late for Irvine to back out.

I still think a person who wasn't jaded enough to be able to assassinate their own mother without any qualms would still bring it up at that point. He's putting his childhood friends in danger if he can't hold up his end, after all.

LeonhartFour posted...
Yes, but it's couched in speculation and isn't ever confirmed until that moment. It's a possible side effect (and Garden and SeeD are skeptical about it; heck, even when it's brought up, Quistis mentions that it's just a nasty rumor), but it's not stated to be a definite.

C'mon, bringing up a detail like that and having someone dismiss it out of hand as a rumor in a story means it's true beyond a shadow of a doubt. It's on the level of having a cop say he's two days away from retirement right before dying.

I don't recall any indication that the mission is supposed to fail. Just because Cid was her husband doesn't mean they weren't legitimately trying to stop her at that point.

Irvine sure as shit doesn't have a reputation for choking. Quite to the contrary, they do nothing but hype him up as the greatest marksman they have. The only thing I could even find to support that is his "Scan" description, and freaking lul if that's what you're basing it on.

The fact that Irvine remembers really makes the whole thing so much stupider than it is. The fact that he nevers mentions anything when given the task of assassinating his adoptive mother is fucking baffling.

Leonhart4 posted...
And there's the lingering question of, "Why is Balamb Garden the only place to use GFs, when they're obviously super powerful and beneficial?"

And yet you literally made the point yourself about how that was explicitly answered at the very beginning of the game in no uncertain terms.

Info-dumping a major plot device 20 hours in advance and never incorporating it into the story between then and it's reveal isn't foreshadowing. It's literally just spelling it out without it having any real consequences until the plot needs it because they clearly hadn't thought how they would make it work before writing the scene in the first place.

Also the letter grades are ranges, so when you're upgrading a weapon and the letter doesn't change it's still upgrading the scaling by a steady amount.

Peace___Frog posted...
In general, the higher a weapons letter grade, the better it scales with that stat (but not always, because dark souls!).
Technically I think this is always the case. The caveat is that the scaling bonus is actually percentage of the weapon's base stats. So A scaling on a 500 base AR weapon would certainly be better than S scaling on a 100 base AR weapon.

Raw is for low requirement weapons that you don't want to invest in stats for. A high requirement weapon with scaling will likely outclass Raw damage simply by fulfilling the requirements.

In later DS games where switching between types is significantly more trivial, it can actually make sense to use Raw infusion early on even if you intend to use the weapon for a while. On the other hand, it's not like it'll make a huge difference for very long.

However, in DS1, not only is that not the case, but Lightning and Fire also have no scaling and are thus probably better options for the same idea.

Sam, it's Die-Hardman. You might be wondering what "PlayStation trophies" are. Well, believe it or not, before the Death Stranding, people spent a considerable amount of time playing computer games. These so-called "trophies" measured your progress in the game. Now this goes without saying, but these weren't physical "trophies" that you may familiar with. In a way, this mimics your own travels to complete the chiral network. Every person you meet is another "trophy" marking your progress towards uniting America. I have more information if you are interested, visit the nearest distro center for more details.

Also my path from South Knot to Timefall Farmers would absolutely not work without that extra 50 meters to get across the river.

Getting them to level 2 isn't so bad and is absolutely worth it. Getting them to level 3 mostly depletes an area of a full stash of Chemicals per zipline. Still did it anyway as my ziplines were getting close to non-functional degradation.

You also only have to have one or the other of the ziplines upgraded to get that benefit, although the indicators when placing a new zipline only account for the extra range if the one already placed has it and the game doesn't always properly update what the actual distance is when you're out of range. Plus it can be annoying to really tell if you really have LOS without the line in general.

To put it another way, his complaint about Goron jumping precision is something you could say he was bad at, but at the same time it's still a believable problem.

The change in day making the explosive barrel go away, while an obvious setup, is a legitimate flaw with the game, and pretty much all he should have devoted to that segment.

Making it look like after dozens of attempts you can only get the explosive barrel where you need it to be with barely enough time left is legitimate DSP-level nonsense.

I mean I've played plenty of the other games he's done (as AVGN) and I never felt he was exaggerating ineptitude to make a joke or a point nearly to the extent he did here. He's done other good games and other "not necessarily horrible but definitely hard" games without it being like this. Hell, he did Zelda 2 and it wasn't anything like this was, and I don't think anyone in their right mind would call it an easier game than Majora's Mask.
