Iyashikei is the japanese word meaning healing.

IMO, there's two main camps of SoL. One, fused with some drama, and there's slow and steady character development over time. The other, is a nothing happens show. It's focus is on comfort and atmosphere.

I love non chronological story telling. It's a lot more engaging to have to actively piece together the full story through the narrative. It's like a jigsaw puzzle, and every piece is deliberately handed to you in a specific order.

No, his complaint is that it's a shit spectator sport. There's always so much going on, that much of nuance behind gameplay in a clip of action is lost. There's often too much visual clutter, and also headspinning camera movement when they go to player's perspective.

Imagine watching football where whenever play stops, everything's all set up to begin play immediately. And you're watching multiple matches simultaneously.

I'm in a hole. I'm pretty adamant about finishing shows I started, logic being why watch it at all if I wasn't going to watch all of it.

So because I have shows unfinished, I'm not inclined to start another. I'm going to finish what's on my plate. But it's been sitting there so long, I get hungry and I went for another plate regardless. Apply same logic for the following plate.

And I keep watching shows that turn out to be just alright to me. It's no so bad to turn away from it, but it's not to my liking to itch me to watch it.

I went from finishing a few anime a month, to <1 anime a month.

DESPITE of all that, I started Tanaka-kun is always listless, and I like it. I really like this season's Yuru Camp, and I wanted to consume more SoL.

Just finished up the new kino's journey. Was still great. Felt a lot more grounded than the first season which isn't really a good or bad thing. Not sure what I'll watch next. Kinda hoping for something atmospheric but not depressing or too mystical. Might even watch some movies which I rarely do.

going by MAL, and though I'm not too sure how well this fits your criteria for atmospheric, all I got for you is humanity has declined, and maybe Nagi no Asukara. Former is a post-apacalyptic setting, with bright pastel colors, doing sci-fi/fantasy for comedy. I love humanity has declined. Latter is a heavy, (blunt/melodramatic even) drama, but somehow the fantasy elements really sells the atmosphere to me.

Also, Paprika. I heard it actually inspired Inception.

I will watch overlord S2 when it ends. First season was fun enough back when I watched it. If only they released anime episodes daily instead of weekly. Seasons happen too slow.

The first 5 episodes of S2 is an arc, if you want to cheat yourself and just watch that for now.

I'm starting Berserk 1997

I saw one episode so far. It's just ok.

The first episode is a flashforward that doesn't really make much sense, and isn't that interesting even with context. I suppose it's there to set the tone and setting, but I think it does a disservice to portray the actual meat of the story/arc.

This season's Yuru Camp is the "nothing happens" SoL, and it's some real well made shit.

I didn't really like last season's Girl's last tour. It was novel and all, but I want my color and emotion to not be veiled by bleakness.

I read a really interesting post about Violet Evergarden. Copy Pasta

Let me just write a bit on WHY KyoAni is making so much original content for their award winning light novel and why the hype seems so unjustified as of now. I'll keep it spoiler free.

So basically, Violet Evergarden volume 1 was an entry to the KyoAni contest and won that grand prize. It's a really good STANDALONE book. I can't stress that point enough. It was clearly written and structured to be standalone, and have no further content. It leaves us with a hugely intense climax that I personally love to death.

The problem starts with volume 2, and the fact that it even exists. It's purpose is to expand and continue the story, but because of the way volume 1 is written and how it ends, it's like trying to eat a burger after eating at a fancy restaurant. Can you do it? Yes. Will you enjoy it? Most likely. Will it be the same? Absolutely fucking not. Volume 2 even ends in what I find personally a quite lackluster way. But that's just because it has to compare itself to volume 1. Volume 2 was still good, but it just wasn't the same.

So what do you do as KyoAni? Well, you adapt it. And I do mean adapting. You change so you can bridge volume 1 and 2 in a more natural way. So how do we do that? Sacrifices must be made though. Volume 1 thrived on keeping us in the dark at the start, but we can't do that if don't wanna make a huge climax at episode 7 and then just riding it out for the rest of the cour. But that sounds dumb doesn't it? It'd be basically coming down from a high for 6 episodes. What about only adapting volume 1 if it's so great? Eh, it leaves the problem of not being enough content for a cour, but impossible to make into a movie, leaving KyoAni no realistic way of getting people onboard.

So what you do is what KyoAni is doing now. Properly set up the world and characters, introduce things that will serve a greater purpose at the start. The light novels does not do this. This is why so much is anime original. We need this start if we are to adapt both volume 1 and 2. Light novel content will come. We've seen it in trailers. Don't blame KyoAni for this, blame the author who forced KyoAni into this position. This is the anime production version of "Stop hitting yourself"

Or you're like me and you love the show so far. Not so much "stop hitting yourself" in that case.

I'm enjoying the show so far, but now I'm debating if I should just go read that LN volume, or see how kyoani adapts this.

The ratings are not flawless but they are a good indicator. I'm talking score ratings, not members so even shows with very few views can have high ratings. I couldn't get past ping pongs art style.

If you'll let me shove one thing down your throat, go watch the 2nd arc of Jojo's Bizzare Adventure. You can skip the 1st arc and go right into it. There's nothing quite like it. It's episode 11-26 of the 2012 series.

Man, I am experiencing some major void right now. I guess I've just seen too much good stuff lately but everything else I can find just doesn't seem interesting. Went through the top 500 anime series on MAL and came up with absolutely nothing to watch. It feels like I already know about everything and that there are no surprises left. Hopefully thats not actually true. Seasonal anime isn't enough.

Where's your MAL?

There's so much anime out there, it's impossible that there's nothing for you. I'm pretty sure you know that even if something appears to be uninteresting, it is interesting (Ping Pong, Rakugo shinjuu).

Also, MAL ratings are biased simply because that's how demographics and certain audiences are. There's plenty of stuff that just isn't talked about because they're undeservingly eclipsed by current topics/trends.
