All of those sound interesting to me, with the archetypes being the most interesting. I think a combination of having no extra deck + some sort of rarity lock would solve most of our problems and would lead people to mostly playing older archetypes, which is what I'd be the most interested in.

My only worry would be archetypes that have key cards at the UR/SR rarity, but in that case, it would just make more sense to not play them. The only 'early' archetype I could see being impossible to play without an extra deck is early day Heroes, with the most basic of fusion monsters (Flame Wingman, Thunder Giant). I suppose that isn't a huge deal though.

I'd be down to do some deckbuilding and testing of any format this week as long as we've settled on it for the next tourney so that I don't spend gems for no reason.

And this is why I play shit like Monarchs and Exodia. If I were to play a real meta deck, it'd be Dragonmaids since they A) don't seem to actually do that and B) aren't near as obnoxious-looking as Eldlich C) Big waifu energy (Raging Flame Sprite is still better tho)

Invoked Dogmatika Shaddoll, which is what I played in the tourney, is a deck with 3 different archetypes mushed together, but overall the deck is almost exclusively focused on getting cards from those 3 archetypes out (and all fusions which is cool), so it feels kind of like there's some identity there.

Blackwings are top 3 of all-time for me but I took a look at what 2021 Blackwing is and it feels like it's barely Blackwing at all when the point is to go into generic extra deck monsters. That's kind of every deck now, though.

I had the same reaction when I searched up what Lightsworn looked like in 2021, which is my favourite deck.

You can't dismantle cards from the Legacy Packs, I wish that were the case. I'd have a whole bunch of UR crafting points.

Between the free packs from PSN and climbing to Plat 1, I have opened hundreds of the legacy packs and not gotten anything worth playing.

Maybe the most interesting/feasible option would then be to remain in the classic format (possibly with a few more sets, the format right after goat had almost no game changing cards), but then create our own custom banlist/ruleset within that format.

I just want to play some jank Diamond Dude Turbo and hit an Ojama Hurricane.

It might be cool for the alternative formats to go through the timeline a little bit. Moving from goat to reaper format, for example. Moving slowly means that most of the cards we already have will still be relevant while giving us access to a few new ones.

Yeah I was going to mention, regular goat also includes The Lost Millenium. For the purposes of our tourney, though, it wouldn't really make a difference.

Unless someone wanted to play very early Ancient Gear or Heroes.

Now that I'm out of both, I'll post decklists. I posted the text version of the classic list on discord with a couple of thoughts on what sucked about it, but I'm shamelessly soliciting advice for improvement on either. The Modern deck is exceptionally cookie cutter Domain Monarchs while the Classic deck is a deck oriented around buffing up Raging Flame Sprite and/or Mucus Yolk to bypass enemy monsters for direct attacks (And locking down the enemy until the attackers are strong enough to survive).

For your Monarch deck, I'd probably add in a Caius and/or Thestalos mega monarch, they helped me out in my climb last season. I also ran a Vanity's Fiend, and only 1 Kuraz, but that was a personal preference thing.

For consistency, I also ran a Proof of Pruflas. A lot of lists also use One for One, but I didn't have the materials to craft it.

I should be able to repurpose Zoodiac Tri-Brigade into just Zoodiac without spending any gems, especially because most of the rarities in that archetype are low.

People not reading the cards accounts for a decent chunk of wins for sure. I'm not opposed to it!

That 1550 gem pack that's on "sale" right now is $19 Canadian on the PSN Store. I know it's a few dollars cheaper on Steam though.

The 1420 pack that is "regular" price is $36 Canadian on the PSN Store, which is hilarious.

Typical game plan for Invoked Shaddoll Dogmatika is
Ns Aleister(fetch invocation)>Almiraj>Secure Gardna>mechaba(invocation fusing Aleister+Gardna)>Aleister in hand via Invocation gy effect.

After that, ss ecclesia to fetch Maximus, ss Maximus by banishing Almiraj, dump Shaddoll Apkallone and bastard dragon, Apkallone searches Schism and dumps a hand card(preferably a dark), set schism, end phase, bastard dragon searches Fleur. Next turn, activate Schism for Winda (Apk + dark).

End board is one omni-negate from mechaba, one monster negate from fleur, and winda locks opponent into one ss per turn.

It's like muscle memory at this point

It's definitely the exact kind of deck that I would play back when I played IRL. Pretty good without being overpowered, not the most expensive, not the most hated.

Alright sign me up for the classic, I've got enough of the rares and commons to make a halfway serviceable goat format deck

it will be the Master Duel banlist because afaik there is no option for custom banlists. when you go to Create Room, it looks like there's a setting for it but there are no other options besides "Standard"

the last time i played Maxx C was still legal so it's not new to me. but yeah it was definitely banned for a reason and SS's have gotten more insane with Links

I've got 3 Maxx C's in my closet in a side deck right now from the last time I played. It looks like they're worth slightly more than they were back then too, and that's with them being banned.

Also I'm sure this was mentioned and I just missed it, but for the classic tourney, are we using the banlist at the time, or the current Master Duel one?

I'd run 5 Maxx C's if I could.

i didn't craft any new SR or UR cards for my classic deck. 7 SR+ total and Judgment and the actually free Raigeki and Reborn. everything else is Rare or lower.

it's probably not very competitive if people were planning to go deep into it but i just wanted to play bad cards.

I'm low on crafting materials but I'll see if I can put together something at least halfway playable, and if so, I'll join the classic tourney as well.

Got to Plat 1 exclusively with IDS. Now I can chill here for the month and learn this other deck.

I was procrastinating from doing real work and spent most of my gems. I now own a Zoodiac Tri-Brigade deck that I should probably learn how to play.

In for the modern tourney

Alright I'm back into Plat. I think I'll try to make the push to Plat 1 this season.

I've adjusted to it at this point, and am mostly enjoying it.

Unless I matchup against Drytron. Fuck that deck.
