I don't know what this is about. But I find it amusing that the X-Box would have been a colossal Jaguar level failure if they didn't make the decision to buy an obscure Macintosh game being developed called "Halo." That was a damn good call on their part, and created a huge fork in the history of gaming forever. It could have gone so horribly bad for that console.

Don't forget that Xbox also picked up sequels and follow-ons to Dreamcast games, that alone would make it a success.

Dreamcast is possibly my favorite console of all time, but I disagree. The Dreamcast died a miserable death, as much as it breaks my heart, and the X-Box would not have sold enough consoles to compete with the PlayStation 2 on "Jet Grind Radio Future" and such as incentive to spend $250 or whatever on a new system no one has heard of, instead of taking the safe bet with the well known PlayStation name. Think about how difficult other companies have had breaking into the console market. (Including video game legends Atari.) Microsoft throwing its head in to the ring with already established console giants Nintendo and Sony... I think it owes the entirety of its end success on Halo being an explosive video game release, that everyone and their damn dog had to have. At least, that's what put them on the score board, and allowed them to continue their success as a now established solid console.

The brand died once they named their 2nd console the "360" and then it was dug up from the grave only to be beaten and buried again when they named their 3rd console "One". -__-

OG Xbox had a superior online service to PS2 and PS3 even. Everyone had mics, later XBL games had clan integration, and it was a very social experience. Socom on PS2 was pretty social, but the game itself was really boring compared to what Xbox had. PS3 was a huge step backwards in that nobody had mics and online MP was not social at all. That has gotten better with PS4 but it only took 2 whole console generations, and even now, PS4 online still lacks compared to the OG Xbox in the early-mid 2000s.
That console was really ahead of it's time for console online MP.

Macs can't play games though so I guess it worked out for all parties involved.
